Ana Cmp é técnica de som, produtora e DJ. Apaixonada por música e arte fundou a Ono Zone. O seu interesse por música eletrônica começou nos anos 2000. Seu irmão mais velho, que naquela época já frequentava as raves e produzia seu próprio som sempre ouvia as músicas em casa. Há 20 anos morando no Rio decidiu voltar para sua cidade natal São Paulo para estudar áudio e música. Formada começou a trabalhar na Cpro montando, operando P.A.s nas principais festa e festivais de música eletrônica do Brasil. Ana também foi hostess da rádio Na Manteiga. Sua pesquisa é eclética mas se aprofunda em Disco, Indie Dance, Balearic e House sempre buscando timbres retrôs.

Berlin-based veteran https://soundcloud.com/saschafunkeofficial graces the imprint with a very special four tracker titled 'IFA' in February (dropping Feb 10th). This week,  to set the fires alight, the Kompakt and BPitch Control producer joins us armed with an exclusive sixty minute mix. It provides the perfect appetiser to the release and comes via the medium of Radio Turbo.

Berlin’s Sascha Funke weighs in with a hard-hitting new four-tracker for Tiga’s label.

Hot off his comeback on Multi Culti, this latest EP for Turbo Recordings takes the hypnotic, progressive vibe and drives it a little bit harder, leaning into every snare with precise power, carefully administering tension over the duration of professionally-paced arrangements. Title-track ‘IFA,' already a weapon in the crates of Funke-friends like Rebolledo, Michael Mayer and Tiga, sounds like the kind of peak-time party power you'd expect those dudes to pull out in the darker hours of their deepest sets, when the soundtrack calls for more than basic, visceral limb-pumping, but full disorientation, actual mind-losing. ‘Robur' rolls out of that space with minimalistic-tribalism, sounding like a mental apocalyptic march, pushing forward with intractable force, an energy which eventually relents on ‘MZ,’ opening up dramatically with an epic chord progression that blooms into ecstatic, piano-house. Think ‘old-school baby,’ revisited with bittersweet self-awareness, taking us back to a place we know well, inspiring one last dance, accessing the naive rave-spirit all-too often forgotten in the ‘industry'. Finally, ‘Barkas’ recalls the tones and timbres from ‘In Relationen,’ reflecting an emotionally placid state, a sound of radiant clarity, the sound of an artist at peace with his place in the cosmos, balancing past and future, energy and stillness, mind and body.

Today's Source To Cycle podcast comes from Frivolous, one of Cadenza's more eccentric family members. Cadenza fans will know Frivolous from his debut album 'Meteorology', which was released on Cadenza in February 2011 complete with its club hits 'Wasting Time', 'Back Into The Deep', and 'Cryin''. Many will also know him from his live club spectacles, which features live keyboards and vocals, as well as a number of his own homemade devices/instruments including the Frivolous Patented Electromagnetic Knife, the Broken-Ruler Music Box, and the Double Cable-Tub Bass.

Frivolous aka Daniel Gardner is certainly unconventional. His recent Random Cuts video episode gave us great insight into how his wonky mind works, and you can hear his warped sensibilities on his Source To Cycle podcast.

His Cycle mix is multi-layered DJ set, that moves through many grades of light and darkness, humour and authenticity, energy and serenity. Beginning with the Nicolas Jaar Remix of Azari and III's 'Into The Night', we arrive at tracks by Maceo Plex, Subb-an, Mehrnoosh, Savage Skulls, and Zepp001. The full of synths and unusual house rhythms, live drums and warped vocals, and is fittingly fun.

Of course with this being Frivolous, there was bound to be a nice surprise or two, and instead of doing a straight up mix of his favourite ever tracks for his Source, Frivolous decided to create a special chronological history of his musical influences since 1989, by weaving in news reel sounds from the era of the tracks that he included, as a way to create a sense of time and space. It is certainly an effective way to tell a story, and it's also rather educational. The Human League, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, Goldie, Daft Punk and Isolee all make it into the mix.

"The news reel sounds were a lot harder to find that I initially thought," says Frivolous with a grin, although Daniel Gardner is not the kind of dude who walks away from a wacky idea without an enlightening result.

Curated by @ohmussi, check the dj-sets played at the independent exhibition Corpo Espaço Rave, that took place at CZO Camp from 02.12.20 to 19.12.20. The exhibition presented memories of the last decade (2009-2019) of São Paulo's art and electronic music scene. Showcasing 80 artists representing 30 collectives, responsible of creating and strengthening a new art movement in Brazil.
