Clarinet Marmalade

    The Dirty River Dixie Band is a traditional style jazz band haling from San Antonio, Texas. Originally meeting at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas where the first members of the band studied music, sparks ignited instantly. Their first public performance was under a gazebo on the square of downtown Seguin. They have gone on to perform at a number of central Texas venues such as: Sam’s Burger Joint, The Esquire Tavern, Luna Jazz Club, Bar 1919, Boardwalk Bistro, The Cove, The Texas Theatre, and many others. They have also been featured at Music Festivals such as: San Antonio Oyster Bake, San Antonio Deco District Art and Music Fest, and Numerous events at San Antonio’s Historic Market Square. They are the winners of the 2015 Network for Young Artists’s Battle of the Bands, as well as first runner up in the same competition in 2014.
    The band is led by Drummer/Vocalist Chris Alvarado whom writes and arranges most charts played. The band is also co-led by Cornet player Kris Vargas and backed by Ian Anderson, Anthony Guzman, Trevin Roming, Richard Laabs, and Tim Canalichio. This group of performers can be heard on the band’s latest Album “Dippermouth” which was released July 2015. The Dirty River Dixie Band’s sound closely emulates The Jim Cullum Jazz Band who has helped mentor the members of the band. Other similar artists include: Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Kid Ory, and Duke Heitger. With no one in the group being over 25 years of age, the main goal of the band is to bring high energy and expertise to a style of music that some have forgotten. Jazz is one of America’s only original art form and The Dirty River Dixie Band is the future of this traditional jazz art form.
