Deeply ingrained into the fabric of the British electronic music landscape, Luke Vibert shows no sign of slowing down, after an illustrious career spanning three decades (to date!). Vibert returns to Hypercolour after 2020’s hugely successful trilogy series (Amen Andrews/Modern Rave/Rave Hop) with his 18th album (not counting albums released under his other monikers Kerrier District, Plug, Wagon Christ et al).

‘GRIT.’ finds Vibert in playful mode (and, let’s face it, whenever isn’t he!), as twelve tracks of acidic and squelching drum machine tracks come rolling out to play.  Bouncy and hypnotising 303 jams of the highest order are served up here, with rhythms pulled from the electro, garage and house pools, all delivered in Vibert’s inimitable style.

The POLYGIRL has been fascinated by electronic music since childhood, particularly the unique synthetic sound which acted as a gateway to a new world of music. This gave her a glimpse into the unknown creative possibilities that awaited her in the future. After years of being a punk in the late 1970s as a teenager and listening to emerging experimental electronic music, The Polygirl shifted her focus in the mid-1980s to Electronic Body Music, Industrial, and the Atonal/Noise scene. Towards the end of that decade, she gained her first experience in producing experimental atonal soundscapes using analogue monophonic synthesizers, tapes, and an Amiga 2000. Back in the day, she was brought by some friends to a House and Techno club where she became completely hooked on Technoid Dance Music. 

She started going clubbing every weekend, purchasing Techno records like crazy, and mixing Vinyl. In addition, she was producing Techno tracks on her Amiga. By the end of 1991, she attended her first big rave in Berlin called Mayday. This was the night that completely captivated her with Techno music, inspiring her to name her studio „Euphonic Area“. In 1992, she began building up her own electronic music studio and produced tracks using Midi and various hardware equipment on the Atari 1040 ST. Throughout the years, she has been devoted to Punkrock, EBM, Industrial, Noise, Techno, Acid, Hardcore, Breakbeat/Jungle, Trip Hop, Ambient, IDM,  Electro, and has released electronic tracks under various aliases. However, she returned to Punkrock music and did not desire to discuss or reflect on her past electronic projects, renouncing her fame in that field. After a prolonged hiatus until 2002. From around 2010, she increasingly returned to producing electronic music after playing guitar in Punk rock bands for a decade. She got interested in synthesizer circuits and learned by herself how to repair them. This skill was handy for looking after her collection of classic analogue music machines or making her own d.i.y. projects of electronic equipment that she couldn't find to buy. 

Furthermore, over the past few years, she has taught herself the art of sound mastering. As a result, she started publishing her own new and self-mastered tracks on the internet, specifically on Bandcamp, alongside her mixes, tracks, and snippets on social media. Today she records her tracks DAW-less mainly live in sessions or jams using her cherished vintage analogue synths, which she affectionately calls her „Dinos“, and drum machines that she named „Thumpers“. She also uses other equipment from the 80s and 90s, coupled with digital effects and occasionally, samplers from those eras. Her music today often takes inspiration from the underground electronic and technoid music, acid, and hardcore scene of the early 90s that she helped shape. This ensures that her music does not feel like a mundane imitation of her previous work or that of others. She produces her own unique style and sound in music with a forward-looking approach. 

For real, one could say that she creates rich and diverse styles of 90s techno music, and this is reflected in her more advanced sound today. The genuine beauty or intensity of her music comes to the fore because she continues to follow her inner feelings and visions uncompromisingly, as she has always done in her sound experiments and projects for over 30 years. That is also why the pieces by The Polygirl frequently become examples of unconventional and headstrong art in both past and contemporary electronic music.
