Taylor Pierce makes his RDA/world debut with the infectious bopper "Need Some More" featuring Fubu Q.

"Need Some More" comes out the gate with a strong nod-factor. Punchy, crystalline drums are decorated with hi-fi bloopy fragments. The bedazzled musical bed is then further enhanced with groove-heavy vocals from Fubu Q, who's weaving cadences compliment Taylor's modest yet masterful arrangement.

We did ask Lowdown to change the name of the track, but he said it wouldn't hit the same. Maybe he's right...

So, this track has been an absolute staple in our sets lately. Housey, ravey and just enough LFO on a sawtooth to create a whirlwind of dance floor energy. The thing we love about this track is that it covers so much ground without feeling disjointed. He really nailed this.

-How long have you been creating music? 

Ed: I’ve been writing music since I was in high school, but I really got into writing more dance music starting in 2018.I started collaborating with Barbara in 2021 when I moved back to SF from the east coast.

Barbara: Like a lot of artists, I grew up in a very music-filled family and home. My grandpa was a saxophone player who tried to teach me piano, flute, and every instrument he could until I realized I could sing, and my voice became my main instrument. I didn’t start officially creating music until I moved to NY in 2016, ~7 years ago, through DJ mixes and learning Ableton. Made my first-ever album in 2022, Palm Dreams, after 100s of voice memos, drum beats, and Ableton experiments I created.

-What do you use to make your tracks?
Ed: I primarily use Ableton, but I have a few different hardware synths I like to sprinkle in, especially my Arturia microfreak.

Barbara: Voice memos, notes, Ableton, and a great microphone. I use my Arturia keyboard, lots of plugins (Endless Smile, Valhalla Vintage Verb, Autotune, etc.) and have an older Ableton Push that I sometimes use.

-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?

Ed: I first discovered Dirtybird at a DB BBQ in nyc 2015. It was so different than anything else I was listening to at the time; the crowd was so nice, and I was sucked right in.

Barbara: My first-ever Ableton teacher, Tony Grund, Instructor at SAE, Editor at Nervous Records and part of the Renegade Masters crew, first introduced me to Dirtybird. The first track I heard was Justin Martin’s Don’t Go and fell in love. I have to really thank him for showing me some incredible artists and labels like Dirtybird, full of new sounds and artists being fun and taking risks. It has influenced my sound a lot. The track on Dirtybird that I am obsessed with these days is Shake Your Hearts by Scavazza. I probably listen to it once a day. 



-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?

Ed: There are so many amazing artists on Dirtybird, but ever since I heard her music, I’ve wanted to collaborate with Nala.

Barbara: Tie between Scavazza and Catz ‘n Dogz.



-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?

Barbara: “Good Crazy”

Ed: “What is Happening?”



-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

Barbara: Nicolas Jaar, Brooklyn Steel, 2017

Ed: Kaskade Redux in nyc in 2019. The music was amazing, and it was so cool to feel so much energy with such a minimal setup. 



-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?

Barbara: 1970s Studio 54 

Ed: I’d like to go to the Cretaceous period and see if T-Rex had feathers.



-What species of bird best describes you and why?

Barbara: Penguins because they like to have fun, sing and dance, bounce on rocks and are smart, so loving and cute

Ed: I’d be a peacock, not just for the beauty but because they escape their pens at the zoo.



-What does Dirtybird mean to you?

Barbara: A community of crazy, fun, super talented risk taskers and a home for experimenting and breaking new sounds. Where pushing boundaries is the norm and people feel free to be 100% themselves. It’s such an honor to release one of my first tracks with my good friend and collaborator, Ed Hoffman, on a label I’ve always admired. 

Ed: An environment where I can genuinely be myself and let my freak feathers fly.

This man needs no introduction, but we’ll give him one anyway - we have one of this year’s favourite 'BOC-Boys' Simenga back in the hot seat! With a production output faster and stronger than a Daft Punk hit record, he has delivered yet ANOTHER 3 track EP worthy of the most hyped dance floors.

The Be Alright EP starts off with the chunky monster of a record Fine Days, a journey from strange to weird that takes a bunch of unexpected turns while keeping the groove locked with a super infectious vocal cut. The flip has you closing your eyes and grinding your teeth with Satisfaction, a wobbly submerged techno romper. Please let us add that this is the first time the word 'satisfaction' has been used correctly since Benny Benassi.

The final track Turn is really where our heads start to explode. How can one producer have so much talent to nail a funky house record too? Nothing is out of reach for this guy and we love it. We wanna smother ourselves in Simenga butter and go sliding around the house.

There is absolutely no doubt Simenga is going to have a massive 2024, and let this one absolutely destroy floors for you this coming holiday period!

You know Dirtybird for dropping basslines and creating smiles on the dance floor since January 2005.

The fun family vibe of the Dirtybird label can be traced back to a free event started in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. This new kind of house music went against the smooth vocal house that was popular at the time and derived its influences mostly from hip-hop, drum n bass, and American funk. The free outdoor BBQ party was very rough around the edges but eventually became legendary amongst the people of San Francisco. This event was also a very influential factor in the decision by Claude VonStroke to start the record label in 2005.

Today, Dirtybird has offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles and has expanded into events and tour production. As it grows, the brand continues to expand beyond music into merchandise, licensing and artist management. In 2015, Dirtybird launched the inaugural Dirtybird Campout festival, which has been dubbed “Summer Camp For Adults”, and Dirtybird has been recognized from their achievements by being awarded "Underground Label of the Year" at the International Dance Music Awards, “Label of the Decade” by Mixmag, “Best North American Label” by DJ Mag, and Billboard’s "Top 5 Independent Dance Labels".
