In the beginning there was Jack and Jack had a groove… Jack is a deep energy, it’s a feeling on the dancefloor. This is the dish that Hijack is serving up on Box of Cats before launching Realoop Records with Wongo, their brand new label for house heads.

Hijack has always been known for his remixes, a master of cutting things up and giving them new life in a style that is instantly recognisable as his own. That's exactly what he's done on these two records. He has switched Kyle Watsons 'The Sample' and given it that jack groove with just the right amount of techno energy. Pitched piano stabs and a deep kick drive this one all the way home. Next up he loads Wongo's 'Dusty Jackson' into his chop machine and adds a swinging bassline melded into filter house vibes while keeping the groove locked. 

He's done exactly as he said he would, hijacking these records and planting them firmly into 2022.

-How long have you been creating music?
I used to write and record on my keyboard since I was a young fella, maybe about 9 or 10. But I've been producing since I was 14 years old, so properly about 12 years now.

-What do you use to make your tracks?
I've been addicted to Reason since I started. I'm on Reason 9.5, and can't see myself changing anytime soon. I like to do out my drum patterns first on my Korg Electribe SX, then recreate them in Reason. It's nice to have your hands on a physical, limited, drum machine, I find the restrictions make you a lot more creative.

-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
I'd been a fan of Claude Van Stroke for a long time, since I heard the Magic Carpet Ride remix when I was a teenager. So when he started his own label, I naturally just started to follow it. I think when I heard Shiba San's Okay, I realized how many banger the label had in it's repertoire and it really sparked my interest.

-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
There's too many. The main man himself, Claude Van Stroke. I've been loving Westend's subby basslines, they remind me of old DNB classics that I loved when I first started DJing and producing. I've been rinsing 'Tarzan' by Black V Neck constantly. As well, Rebuke is a fellow Irish man and a serious producer who's been working hard for years. He's hailed as a bit of a hero here.  

-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
The trials and tribulations of a Hairy Bastard.

-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
The Prodigy @ 02 Dublin - 2009.

-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
The Jurassic period. I wanna ride on a t-rex and do a load of wheelies.

-What species of bird best describes you and why?
A budgie, because I don't shut the fuck up.

-What does Dirtybird mean to you?
Innovative, well-produced, fun music. Dirtybird tunes have played a large part throughout my DJ life.

2 - FOOLiE - Outer Space Ft Sachi Rae (Radio Edit)

You know Dirtybird for dropping basslines and creating smiles on the dance floor since January 2005.

The fun family vibe of the Dirtybird label can be traced back to a free event started in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. This new kind of house music went against the smooth vocal house that was popular at the time and derived its influences mostly from hip-hop, drum n bass, and American funk. The free outdoor BBQ party was very rough around the edges but eventually became legendary amongst the people of San Francisco. This event was also a very influential factor in the decision by Claude VonStroke to start the record label in 2005.

Today, Dirtybird has offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles and has expanded into events and tour production. As it grows, the brand continues to expand beyond music into merchandise, licensing and artist management. In 2015, Dirtybird launched the inaugural Dirtybird Campout festival, which has been dubbed “Summer Camp For Adults”, and Dirtybird has been recognized from their achievements by being awarded "Underground Label of the Year" at the International Dance Music Awards, “Label of the Decade” by Mixmag, “Best North American Label” by DJ Mag, and Billboard’s "Top 5 Independent Dance Labels".
