Welcome to the second installment of our double-single series, Splits!

This go around, we call fresh-faced club wizard Luke Andy & Canadian nightlife messiahs, Smalltown DJs to the podium. Since both of these tracks are rooted in emotion, we wanted to allow our guys to illustrate the intentions behind their sonic tableaus, in their own words.

"This track was created during a time when I was experiencing romance in my life, and I wanted to capture the essence of Oxytocin, which is the hormone released in our bodies when we fall in love. I combined a driving bass line, and a disco-inspired groove that helped me capture this vibe. This combination resulted in “Love Drug”, and it’s easily one of the tracks I’m most proud of (so far!)."

"Seen You Before” was designed to take the dance floor on an emotional flow that releases in an optimistic wave at the very end. We had the chance to test the track on Good TV’s Twitch streams to some very positive feedback. It was inspiring. Then to see auditory admirals Justin Martin and Walker & Royce play it in live sets was a big highlight for us. We’re very excited for this song to officially come out, especially on Rules Don’t Apply!"

I've been creating music for 2 years, but I've studied alone for 11 years.

To make my tracks, I use Ableton Live 10 / on the elements, it varies a lot from the track.



-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?

I discovered Dirtybird when I was still playing Dj Set, I've already played some tracks by Ardalan, Justin Martin.



-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?

I would like to collaborate with Justin Martin



-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?

If my life were a movie, I would give it the title: Surviving to Live.



-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

The best show I've ever been to is hard to say, there were a lot of parties.



-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?

If I could time travel, I would travel to 1979 at Woodstock.



-What species of bird best describes you and why?

The bird I choose is the Nightingale, it has a beautiful song and it's also at night! haha



-What does Dirtybird mean to you?

Dirtybird for me is much more than a dream, where I met several artists that I admire so much!

At the end of the day it’s really all about house music. Whether its minimal, maximal, micro or dismal house, it’s all house. From your ears to ours, we all call it something different but IT’S ALL HOUSE MUSIC. That’s the beauty of it, and that's why our main man Marc Spence has come to tell you all about it.

Like church service 'It’s All House Music' is your weekly sermon into Marc’s vision of house music. If god was a raver, this would be his entrance song. The flip 'Gets High' sounds like something born from Marc's love of the Dubsided era (which is totally fine with us btw). Stuttered vocal chops, a huge-ass lead synth and enough kick drum romp to send you all the way back to 2005! Both records are fat and full and should definitely be double-checked before showing your grandma.

Picture this: You’re walking past an Aussie work site and you hear a bumping tune. You see a bunch of hard hats dancing and you’re watching mud just fly all over the place. For some reason the smell of chocolate milk is strong and your ears are ringing with a tune you just need to know the name of. You whip out Shazam and hold it high. Wait, this is that new ZOF y’all been hearing about!

ZOF has previously been on BOC but today is the EP debut we have been waiting so long for. This two track EP is pumping but gracious. Laced with her own vocals, the lead track Bubble is a journey into the mind of one of the coolest up-and-coming producers out of Seattle. All Day All Night is heat from the very first beat. This track is peak time club ish and should be enjoyed as required. That’s an order. 

With BUMPING remixes from Arnold & Lane & Baby Weight, it rounds out this beautiful package!

The first time I met ZOF was at a dinner table in Seattle about 5 years ago, and it makes me so happy and proud to have her now on the label with us!

What is the Perfect Driver Tour Bus? 

We would like to be the first independent dance music record label to take our show on the road. Literally. With help from supporters, label-head Matthew Anthony will be customizing a Sprinter Van to pick up artists in one city to play shows in the next while remote operating the label in an ongoing Perfect Driver tour. See link to crowd-funding campaign below.

Our goal is to give Perfect Driver artists and fans a one of a kind experience. A #VanLife styled road trip where the DJ plays shows in big cities, small towns and everywhere in between, all while producing music in a mobile recording studio. Picture the Perfect Driver high-top Sprinter Van at a local art show or skate park with artists performing from the back. Or our #DJsAndCooking web-series broadcasting live from festivals. Imagine pit stops in National Parks while documenting artist & industry conversations on YouTube or Patreon for subscribers. Our plan includes playing quarterly shows in major markets.

Ocean Roulette, Arnold & Lane - Heat (Out Jan 3)

Why are you a freak?
I am from the U.S. but I have had the opportunity to live on and off in Germany for a few years so my sound is a mixture of those influences.
The music I make tends to be sporadic within the sub-genres under house music. I make tech house, bass house, techno, west coast tech house, and it all somehow fits together quite well.

Most unbelievable moment:
Jolt EP drop with Toolroom’s Strangelove. I had previously self released my first EP and then I got the contract to be on a label with artists like Steady Rock, OMNOM, Astronomar, and NiQw. I was very surprised I was getting a release like that so early on.

Favorite dish:
‘Mother’s Weekly Special’
It is a homemade red sauce, pasta, topped with basil, balsamic reduction and feta cheese.

Favorite freak / why:
My best friend, Cassandra.
She exposed me to Western Europe, specifically music culture in Germany.
We have been able to travel a lot and it has been a big influence on my sound.

Favorite place to be:
Disneyland

Colossi Rah in the future:
I want to try my hand at more techno, continue to make a diverse array of house music, and expand in the variety of labels that I am on.
I have also wanted to do more in the art world. I started to collaborate, choreograph, and compose contemporary dance pieces with a dancer at Netherlands Dance Theater.

You know Dirtybird for dropping basslines and creating smiles on the dance floor since January 2005.

The fun family vibe of the Dirtybird label can be traced back to a free event started in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. This new kind of house music went against the smooth vocal house that was popular at the time and derived its influences mostly from hip-hop, drum n bass, and American funk. The free outdoor BBQ party was very rough around the edges but eventually became legendary amongst the people of San Francisco. This event was also a very influential factor in the decision by Claude VonStroke to start the record label in 2005.

Today, Dirtybird has offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles and has expanded into events and tour production. As it grows, the brand continues to expand beyond music into merchandise, licensing and artist management. In 2015, Dirtybird launched the inaugural Dirtybird Campout festival, which has been dubbed “Summer Camp For Adults”, and Dirtybird has been recognized from their achievements by being awarded "Underground Label of the Year" at the International Dance Music Awards, “Label of the Decade” by Mixmag, “Best North American Label” by DJ Mag, and Billboard’s "Top 5 Independent Dance Labels".
