-How long have you been creating music?
I was definitely a band kid in school and fell in love with music. I played drums growing up, marched Snare in High School and was in a local band here in San Diego. I got into producing and making electronic music around 2012. After my band went separate ways I wanted to continue to make music and have that creative outlet. So here we are 8 years later always learning and still enjoying creating music like I did when I was a kid!

-What do you use to make your tracks?
I am very in the box nowadays with producing music (Ableton, Mac). I do love always experimenting with live instruments and hardware since that was my passion growing up. I still listen to a wide variety of music that involves live instruments and recordings. 

-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
I first discovered Dirtybird back in 2012 when my friend turned me onto some of the early Justin Martin, Cause & Effect, Vonstroke and more. Some of the sounds coming out of the west coast tech house they were and still are producing is always new, fresh, inspiring and definitely inventing for me as a fan and artist alike. 

-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
Definitely would be Ardalan or Justin Martin. Hello Clouds and Mr. Good are in my list as some of the best produced albums I have ever listened to.

-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
Ah man this question is hard! LOL My life has been one hell of a ride, even being at such a young age. I definitely find myself learning and growing as an individual at the age of 30 than I ever have before. I think just because my life is somewhat unpredictable at times and or I usually like to go with the flow it would be called "It Is What It Is Till' It Ain't" (shout out al the Mac Miller fam out there <3)

-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
There are so many concerts I have been to that I have said "man that was the best concert ever!" LOL
Best concert if I really had to pick would either be Flying Lotus in 3D, The Wu-Tang Clan, Converge orrrrr... see it's too hard to pick!

-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
I think the hardest pick about time travel is do you want to travel to the past or to the future. What scares me is doing one little thing to mess it all up! LOL I have watched Back to the Future too many times...

-What species of bird best describes you and why?
I am going to go with the Northern Spotted Owl! Owl's are definitely my favorite bird species and after doing some research found out they need a large amount of land for hunting and nesting and love to travel! 

-What does Dirtybird mean to you?
The track I am releasing, Wild Things & Nights, was produced at the beginning of quarantine. While working on the track I was actually screen sharing and conversing with a friend of mine, local San Diego artist Sprout. As I was working through the track, Sprout lended a helping and supportive ear all the way through. The song ended up becoming a favorite amongst friends, my best friend Matt swore it was even his favorite I had ever written. At that point when the song was done, after all of the support and love put into the work, I knew I had to send it to Dirtybird. The positivity, energy, community, love and support is what makes this track so special and is a true testament of what Dirtybird means to me.
This song is dedicated to my best friend and in memory Matt Hardeman aka "MATTH"

-How long have you been creating music?
I've been making recordings since I was around 10 or 11 years old.

-What do you use to make your tracks?
My life energy and time on this earth.. sometimes a computer and some gear.

-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
It must have been the first time I went to Movement in Detroit, which was in 2012.

-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
Is Barclay Crenshaw a Dirtybird artist? Also is Treasure Fingers a Dirtybird artist?

-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
'Please stop doing that. Are you listening?'

-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Limp Bizkit in 1999

-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
To 1999 to see Limp Bizkit

-What species of bird best describes you and why?
Some kind of owl-- like a middle-of-the-road owl. Just look at it.

-What does Dirtybird mean to you?
Big parties!

My Mix Weighs A Ton 030 - Chris Simon

'Iran-born DJ and producer Ardalan has unveiled a remix package for his debut album Mr. Good, out 20th November on Dirtybird.

An 18-track package, Mr. Good Remixes is a sprawling collection of reworks and reimaginings, featuring a diverse range of artists from across the electronic spectrum. Kicking things off, Ardalan delivers an electro tinged rework of ‘I Can’t Wait’ while Detroit house legend Delano Smith offers up a deep and soulful rework and US duo Soul Clap share their futuristic interpretation of the same track.

Elsewhere, highlights come in the form of UK talent Archie Hamilton who crafts meticulously sequenced minimal beats on his remix of ‘Mr Bad’, ghetto house innovator DJ Deeon drops a typically raw and jackin’ take on the same track, while The Martin Brothers turn ‘Lifted’ into a Drum & Bass roller. 

Further remixes from Justin Jay, Kevin Knapp, Kyle Watson, Minx, Pezzner, Lubelski & RYBO, German Brigante, OMNOM, Bruno Furlan & DG Glen, Garneau, Cour T and Kill Frenzy complete the remix package.  

Released in November of last year, Ardalan’s debut album Mr. Good was a perfect tipping point for the bright young artist. A genuine reflection of the producer he has become with a considerable nod to the future, the album was widely admired by critics, DJs and fans alike, with Magnetic Mag describing it as “a testament to his prowess as an artist and producer”.

Premiere: Ardalan - I Can't Wait (Delano Smith Reconstructed) [DIRTYBIRD]

You know Dirtybird for dropping basslines and creating smiles on the dance floor since January 2005.

The fun family vibe of the Dirtybird label can be traced back to a free event started in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. This new kind of house music went against the smooth vocal house that was popular at the time and derived its influences mostly from hip-hop, drum n bass, and American funk. The free outdoor BBQ party was very rough around the edges but eventually became legendary amongst the people of San Francisco. This event was also a very influential factor in the decision by Claude VonStroke to start the record label in 2005.

Today, Dirtybird has offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles and has expanded into events and tour production. As it grows, the brand continues to expand beyond music into merchandise, licensing and artist management. In 2015, Dirtybird launched the inaugural Dirtybird Campout festival, which has been dubbed “Summer Camp For Adults”, and Dirtybird has been recognized from their achievements by being awarded "Underground Label of the Year" at the International Dance Music Awards, “Label of the Decade” by Mixmag, “Best North American Label” by DJ Mag, and Billboard’s "Top 5 Independent Dance Labels".
