[BIRDFEED EXCLUSIVE] This week's new track was actually a tip from Justin Martin. He told us he's been playing a bunch of Westend music in his sets and we should check them out. So we did, and we signed 'Nakey', featuring Oakland's Blak  Trash!



-How long have you been creating music?

WESTEND: 7 Years. Robert Moog, who created the first commercial modular synthesizer, went to my high school (shoutout Bronx Science). His daughter donated a digital music lab which consisted of around 30 iMacs each equipped with Reason 5 and a MIDI keyboard. Took a class on music production and the rest is history!

BLAK TRASH: Creating music for 10+ years, Blak Trash is now 4 years old.


-What do you use to make your tracks?

WE: Started off on Reason and switched over to Ableton 3 years ago.

BT: Fl Studio



-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?

WE: The first Dirtybird artists I saw was in 2011 when Claude Von Stroke closed out Mad Decent Block Party. I had no idea who he was and assumed he was some pompous Dutch techno DJ but I am pretty sure I lost my mind during that set. “Make That Booty Clap” by Kill Frenzy was the first track on Dirtybird that I can remember. Sheeesh what a heater! It needs to be re-released with a new roster of remixers.

BT: Discovered it browsing Soundcloud.


-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?

WE: Walker & Royce, Fisher, Justin Martin. No particular order

BT: The legend himself, of course.....Claude what's good? We got some gas for you.



-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?

WE: Hot Tub Time Machine

BT:  Knocked Up



-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

WE: The most important one was Electric Zoo in 2011. I had never been to a festival before and 3 days of the biggest names in dance music had me hooked.

BT: Dance Gavin Dance in Sacremento Ca, they absolutely killed their set.



-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?

WE: Disco parties in New York during the 70's.

BT:  I would go a couple thousand years in the future, I feel like it would be amazing to see all of the technological advances.


-What species of bird best describes you and why?

WE: Seagull cause I will steal your fries.

BT: The Grey Parrot, because it is one of the worlds smartest animals, being able to mimic human speech, studies with the grey parrot have shown that some are able to associate words with their meanings and form simple sentences


-What does Dirtybird mean to you?

WE: Honored to have a second release with Dirtybird. Always been about the music and having a good time. What more could you ask for?

BT: Dirtybird is one of the foundational pillars advocating the preservation of the house music culture.

Westend - Nakey (feat. Blak Trash) [PREVIEW]

Joining the label for the next EP is underground dance music darling, Anabel Englund on a collaborative work with label-head RYBO.

Following the signature Percomaniacs mantra of “Bongos not Bangers”, RYBO crafts a percussion-focused, stripped back instrumental for Anabel’s unmistakable vocal stylings allowing her voice to carry the ebbs and flows of the track’s sub movement and naturally bouncing rhythms.

The release totes 3 stellar remixes from the likes of Berlin’s Joyce Muniz, UK’s Jey Kurmis, and Percomaniacs co-label head Lubelski. 

Joyce Muniz is no stranger deep and melodic grooves; and her remix is no exception. She brings the otherwise radiant original into an almost gloomy light with expressive pads and sharp stabs.

Jey Kurmis follows up with psychedelic flair, oscillating Anabel’s chops to a tremble over tripped out saw-tooths and enigmatic bongos. 

Finally, Lubelski delivers an 80’s indie-electronic inspired remix, carting a driving bassline, evocative chords, and guitar licks in tow. 

All in all, the release features a bit of flavor for anyone craving ‘Something New’.

SLEEP DOWN - Ibiza

You know Dirtybird for dropping basslines and creating smiles on the dance floor since January 2005.

The fun family vibe of the Dirtybird label can be traced back to a free event started in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. This new kind of house music went against the smooth vocal house that was popular at the time and derived its influences mostly from hip-hop, drum n bass, and American funk. The free outdoor BBQ party was very rough around the edges but eventually became legendary amongst the people of San Francisco. This event was also a very influential factor in the decision by Claude VonStroke to start the record label in 2005.

Today, Dirtybird has offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles and has expanded into events and tour production. As it grows, the brand continues to expand beyond music into merchandise, licensing and artist management. In 2015, Dirtybird launched the inaugural Dirtybird Campout festival, which has been dubbed “Summer Camp For Adults”, and Dirtybird has been recognized from their achievements by being awarded "Underground Label of the Year" at the International Dance Music Awards, “Label of the Decade” by Mixmag, “Best North American Label” by DJ Mag, and Billboard’s "Top 5 Independent Dance Labels".
