Label boss Stefano Noferini teams up with Samuel Dan for some heads-down business and a three-track trip to rabbit hole central. 

Kicking off with a rollercoaster bassline, the opener shuffles and grinds via the help of a snappy rhythm section. Hypnotic percussion shifts the focus on the loopiness, only to be interrupted by intricate edits and cavernous effects. &#8220;Dark Passenger&#8221; gives a subtle nod to the tribal sound but adds the menace with synth stabs and garbled electronics, while the laid-back groove provides the perfect backdrop for a sultry vocal snippet. 

Samuel Dan&#8217;s Dark Mix of the original seals the EP with classic analog bass and electronic squelches galore. An assortment of even more vocal edits and psychotic effects all add up for a twisted epilog to this groovy ride.

After an impressive late morning closing set at dirtybird’s latest Watergate party in Berlin, Sacha Robotti, made his way to Switzerland to play at Nordstern. Hooking up with an equally exhausted Swiss producer, "Look Like" on arrival, the tired and wired duo shared thoughts over a heady green tea session. Realising they shared a deep love for bass, they made a pact: to write a collaborative EP that would score the highest of marks from dirtybird big dog Claude VonStoke.

These two slick-back groove attacks are the end result...  “Loca Lola” is a one-way ticket to the most mischievous of party districts where an array of manipulated vocal samples bounce avidly on a bed of chop-slapping beats. Complete with head-popping stabs, cheeky wolf whistles and a carnal carnival shriek, it’s left VonStroke‘s floors floundering the world over on every roadtest. “Dropout”, meanwhile, tunes into a darker, booty-busting techfunk groove where cut-throat vocal stabs punctuate the unrelenting bassline and chest-stamping kicks. Heads down, please; this one shifts in a serious way.

What started as a comedown has turned into a fire-up.  Collab creations don’t come any better than this. Something tells us Robotti and Look Like will be locking horns again the future.

SINNERS welcome Marseille-based talent Mark Höffen as he reveals his ‘Orwhat’ EP this September. With releases to date via the likes of Mimesis Audio, Chouette Musique and Sweet Musique to name just a few, Marseille-based talent Mark Höffen’s blend of melodic techno, house and electronica - fusing dark atmospheres and lighter, jazz-influenced sounds - has seen the rising talent gain the attention of many of his leading peers since making his debut in 2015. Next up he heads to blossoming imprint SINNERS following material on the label from the likes of Elska, Aalson, and founders ABE, and reveals two fresh productions as he releases his ‘Orwhat’ EP to open September. “I made this EP in a new approach, almost 100% analog, I wanted to merge machines noises & sound design. Tröller isn’t made especially for clubs, it’s more of a journey inside my latest influences & time in my life” – Mark Höffen Lead production ‘Orwhat’ opens proceedings as Höffen fuses bright leads amongst sweeping darker, more sinister tones to reveal a captivating and blooming title cut, whilst ‘Tröller’ lays the focus on warm synths, resonant bass stabs and crisp, regimented percussion to shape up the EP and round out a fine label debut. Back around the turn of the millennium Tepat Huleux and Giac Di Falco, lured by dazzlingly eclectic sets by the likes of The Glimmers and 2manyDJs, would sneak out of their Lille homes, cross the Belgian border and dance all night at the legendary parties that birthed Eskimo Recordings. 20 years later the pair, now known as You Man, make their debut on the label with the stunning 4 track 'Altered States' EP. Those early club experiences obviously made an impact as the pair have followed that open minded approach with their new EP embracing everything from dark disco to muscular EBM, euphoric trance to Konnakol, a percussive vocal effect used in Southern Indian Carnatic music, and even Di Falco's background as a trained psychologist and hypnotherapist. The result a mesmerising experience primed to both open and expand minds on the dancefloor. A homage of sorts to 'The Doors of Perception', Aldous Huxley's classic book about his mescaline experiments, the EP's opener, and title track, is just the thing to get us in the right mindset for this journey. Luring us in with a looping bass line that will lock your body into the groove, 'Altered States' kicks into gear as the aforementioned Konnakol vocals, a series of stuttering percussive syllables, work their magic and lift you to new levels of consciousness. Taking us deeper into this trip we have 'NonSense', a track that recalls the wild experimentation and playful spirit of the early 90s trance scene and artists like the Higher Intelligence Agency or Banco de Gaia. Imbued with a playful spirit, the track bounces along as percussive elements, little vocal snippets and strange instruments fade in and out of the mix before echoing off into eternity. If 'NonSense' revels in the lighter side of the psychedelic experience 'The Veil' offers us the other side of the coin. Easing us in with a series of insistent, repeating tones that build and build the pressure until the track explodes into life, a throbbing post-punk bass line and looped rising and falling synth tone creating an effect as eerie as it is atmospheric. One for dark industrial warehouses, illuminated by just a single flashing strobe and silhouetted hands reaching into the darkness to tear down the veil that exists between worlds. Finally we reach the end of the EP and 'Mind Ballad', a track that adds a psychedelic twist to the early Chicago House sound of producers like Lil Louis. Created with hypnotic intent, close your eyelids, let the bass line fill your body, and as the snare rush hits open your third eye to the world around you in all its fractal altered glory. With releases on labels such as Tronik Youth's NEIN, their stunning live shows and hypnotic visuals created by Huleux, the pair have firmly established themselves on the underground disco scene, their eclectic tastes and esoteric interests combining to create a distinctive sound that is sure to win over even more hearts and minds in 2020 with the release of the 'Altered States' EP.
