Era una esfera de aluminio del tamaño de una pelota de playa -apenas 58 centímetros de diámetro- de poco más de 80 kilos, con cuatro largas y finas antenas. En su primer viaje, tardó 98 minutos en orbitar la Tierra.

SPUTNIK is the first satellite ever launched by Russia, then the Soviet Union (USSR). It was an aluminum sphere the size of a baseball - barely 58 centimeters in diameter - weighing just over 80 kilograms, with four long, thin antennas. On its first trip, it took 98 minutes to orbit the Earth.
