Today we made an special interview from one of the best italo collectors in Spain, he is Jose Ramon aka Synergic Silence @synergic_silence as a producer, he was traveling to Milan in the 80's to buy all the records from Discomagic, Discotto, Memory Records etc. He has really gems on his collection more than 20.000 records and he has also made a mix with his favorite tracks from the Italo disco underground of the time.

HI Jose Ramon!  

Tell us a little about yourself and your love for Italo disco. How was the experience in the 80's when you went to Milan for Italo disco vinyls, tell us that story. 

Explaining everything would take many pages so I will try to be very brief. 

It was at the beginning of the 90s. The Italo Disco boom had already given way to new styles that were being played in discos (there was some reminiscence through the High ENergy that was produced in Italy). I kept collecting records from the 80s. At that time it was not easy to discover new music (without the internet ...). You knew songs from references through some DJs, from session cassette tapes and what I discovered in the warehouses/discos where I played or in second-hand stores. There was little else.
A friend of mine suggested going to Italy accompanied by the owner of a record store in Madrid who bought directly from Discomagic. He seemed quite crazy so I wasn’t sure. The truth is that he went on a trip alone before and after seeing what he had bought I automatically had to go. 

The first trip was a fascinating experience. Three friends traveling from Barcelona at night in a Fiat Uno, constantly listening to the same tapes and imagining what records we could find (I assure you that all expectations of what we thought we would discover were exaggerated). We arrived in Milan first thing in the morning and went directly to Discomagic in Via Mecenate. It was still closed as it was very early. I remember the excitement of climbing the stairs that gave access to the warehouses (the charts, the covers of new releases, posters of their artists were pasted).  
Imagine the surprised faces of the people who worked there: three guys from Barcelona looking for totally "old-fashioned" records, mere disco records of ephemeral success in many cases. After insisting, that same day we accessed the warehouse that was in a kind of semi-basement and where all the returns and stock remnants of what Discomagic produced and distributed were kept.  
I can only tell you that it was magical chaos; copies and copies of many of the discs so sought after today stored without any order or criteria which added an incredible emotion to each box that we opened. 
On these trips we spent more than 6 hours in the warehouse, it was exhausting but very satisfying. 
On the following days we also went to Discotto. We got access through the contact of the Il Discotto store that still existed. The Discotto warehouse had already been closed for years, and when you entered that warehouse it seemed that time had stopped in the mid-1980s. The records were perfectly placed and classified in beastly silence. 

From there, the trips continued and each time we were more prepared, with more knowledge, contacts, addresses, etc. Later, since 2005, we went to the record fair in Milan (Vynilmani) where we also found things, but they were already starting to rise in price.

From his studio at the (infamous) berliner club "Sameheads" , Franz Scala has been building with years a great reputation on the contemporary "Italo-Dance-scene", being the mind behind 2 essential labels as "Slow Motion" and "Wrong Era". Artists like "Fabrizio Mammarella", "Francisco" or "Rodion", to name a few, have been rising as a part of the Italian family that Scala has created with "Slow Motion".

Imprints as "Bordello A Parigi", "Tusk Wax", "Bahnsteig 23" or "MM Discos" have had the pleasure of hosting the Italian maestro, signing there remarkable records. Italian dance highly influenced by new wave, obscure synths and a little balearic touch.
