I had a lot of fun composing this set to kickstart a truly memorable immersion over NYE 2022.  It's a mix of playful, sometimes twisty, uplifting, mainly Afro House gapers that I love.

SafariBurn 2022 - Primal Punks Opening Set

Sunrise is my favorite way to describe the magic of Burning Man.

There are 365 sunrises each year, and most of us consider it a privilege to sleep through them. But during one week at Burning Man the attendance of sunrise is a must. In the desert, as a collective, we make things that are otherwise ordinary occurrences into sacred spectacles. We make costumes for the sunrise, we compose music for it, and we go through death-defying stunts to take incredible pictures of it. And so it goes with many things at Burning Man; things that we take for granted in the real world are treated differently on the playa. It is not just the rising of the sun that we elevate to mythical proportions, but human traits like kindness, patience, uncertainty and flexibility are also celebrated, tested and recharged in Black Rock City.

Through audio and video captures, these extraordinary treatments of ordinary things stand a chance to be implemented in the outside world, not just for those who were there, but also to people who never traveled to Burning Man, and who - through these captures - are reminded that certain basic things in life can hold more value if we so choose. With every unusually nice thing that someone did or said to us at Burning Man, with every unprovoked smile we received from strangers in its dust storms, we will be charged and challenged to pay that spirit forward the other 51 weeks of the year.  And every morning, the sun will faithfully show its face to remind us of this opportunity.  

So, the next time we need to set our alarm clocks because real life responsibilities demand us to be awake before dawn, let’s choose to be grateful for witnessing the sun peek over the horizon or through our concrete jungles, while most other people are sleeping through it, and let’s remember that we are ambassadors of that magical place that celebrates the beauty in ordinary things. 

Today is a good day to be awake!

The Scumfrog - Robot Heart - Burning Man 2014

Pinerolo is a restaurant in Oslo. I was commissioned by the owners to compile and mix three mixtapes. Their directives were rather vague, lending me an opportunity to pick from any genre, not care too much about how commercial the tracks were and just create an eclectic but cohesive compilation that would contribute to the relaxed vibe at Pinerolo. This is what I did.

Frederik Hendrik returns to Pomme Frite with the Stoer EP — two cosmic excursions blurring house and disco. The title track struts with slick nostalgia, inspired by childhood days of “stoer” style and swagga, while B-side 'Het Verleeden' (The Past) beams shimmering synths and hypnotic rhythms straight onto the floor. Playful, interstellar, and built for dancers.

Burning Man 2012 - Endless Summer - Mixed by Isaiah Martin

Full b2b set with @nikolay21 at the first edition of staytuned in London. A party filled with friends, we experimented with no set times and just went with the flow, switching it up every so often over the course of the night. 

A few slips here and there as we dealt with the recording and lively booth area. The last hour gets pretty loose, most notably the extended pause at 05h44m as we pleaded with the venue for a few more tracks to close out the night ;)!

I started putting this mix together back around Valentines Day. My intention was to treat it like a mix tape .. long plays, back to back songs with limited mixing and a track selection that speaks from my heart. As with love in general it's about having fun and not getting too caught up in the small details.

A Hotel Life / Classical Journey

Even though I recorded this mix in my small New Zealand quarantine hotel room, ‘the lagoon’ is a very real place. Last time this year, a small group of friends and I threw a secret bonfire moonrise party at this undisclosed location and I played a set there. This year I can sadly not be there, but I recorded a set with the event in mind. The result is over two and a half hours of eclectic psychedelic sounds. Channel your own inner lagoon the way I did over the past two days putting this set together.
