Disco & Funky house (January 2024)

Killer Boogie retured to the myhouseradio.fm airwaves with episode 13 of the De Gama-led groove-a-thon front and centre to start the new week with a bang and a pop.

De Gama takes to the console for the first hour, sliding into his musical flip flops and dipping into his basket of sonic delights. Believe us when we say that this hour has it all – De Gama rolls back the years with killer tracks, edits and cheeky bootlegs from the likes of John Morales, Degrees of Motion, Frank Virgilio, Micky More and Andy Tee, Moplen and Masters At Work to name but a few.

Joining De Gama as his special guests this month are Italian DJ and production duo Souldynamic! Known separately as Luca Ciotoli and Stefano De Magistris, Souldynamic have been a staple of the house music scene for the last 13 years. As well as having a substantial catalogue of releases, the duo have performed for Boiler Room in Naples in 2016, played alongside the legendary Lil Louis and Concrete (Paris) and still find the time to run their own record label ‘Excedo’. It’s an hour peppered with their own productions and a few surprises.

And for this week's guest mix, we were delighted to welcome Alejandro Cacciola aka DiscoRocks. Ale, originally from Buenos Aires now residing in Miami, is a prolific DJ and producer, with a huge array of quality and respectful edits on his bandcamp, plus a superb selection of mixes on his Mixcloud to feast your ears on. Dave Newsome from Leeds.  

I’ve had a deep passion for music all my life and in the mid 80’s i formed a crew of breakers ( breakdancers) called Electro Beat who battled other crews with dance off’s around Leeds and other cities throughout Yorkshire.  It was at this time that I started collecting vinyl such as the electro series of albums and grandmaster flash / sugarhill etc

Fast forward a several years and I began djing around Leeds. Inspired by the likes of Joey Negro ( Dave Lee ) and Dimitri From Paris I carved out a reputation as a disco influenced, House DJ around my home town.  This was when Defected and hed Kandi were releasing some ‘pure gold’ house music and I’d get them upfront from my mate who ran the vinyl section in HMV. I held down residencies in the day playing Vinyl sets at the likes of Lounge Bar, The Fruit Cupboard, North bar , Velvet, Sutra , Space , Warehouse and most notably a 4 year residency at Leeds’s No 1 venue Fibre.  Along side this I Dj’d at numerous other bars and clubs throughout the UK. 

After a few years break to concentrate on family,  I was lucky enough to return to djing after a move to the North East.  

Forever 54, a huge brand playing Glitterbox style sessions invited me to join the team and be involved in a regular series of residencies, events, festivals and Boat Parties.  Since then our brand has grown on a European scale. I have played several guest sets at Buzz Beach bar in OluDeniz and next month sees my debut at our monthly 54 residency in the Algarve where I’ll be playing along side one of our other DJs over 3 nights at the stunning Thai Beach Club. 

Having moved back home to Leeds we are now looking to expand the brand and in discussions with some specifically targeted bars in Leeds and York.

I have always loved soulful, funky, Disco & house music and stay true to my roots when delivering my mixes.  To be able to play the music you love and get the reaction it gets from the crowds is a dream come true ..
