4 big ol’ chunks of heavy house music are the order of the day from New York producer Ralph Session’s hot new EP for Black Jukebox. Combining his skills as a musician and seasoned DJ along with the technical know-how from his work as an audio engineer, the result is a collection of beautifully crafted, hard-hitting house cutz.
‘That Raw’ features a breathy spoken-word vocal from DJ Amir—one half of the legendary duo Kon & Amir—that laces the soulful, deep production with a hypnotic atmosphere. Thick bass bubbles beneath soaring strings and meandering synth arpeggios to give the track a set-building, big-room feel. ‘Do It’ rocks jaunty snatches of piano and sax over its peppy, skippy beat, with a little New Jersey feel in its incessant, phat-bottomed grove. ‘If You Want’ takes us into a deeper direction with its hazy pad work and dubby touches, with a slinky, rubbery bass groove that throbs hard beneath it all. Turn it up loud and feel it envelop you with its wide-open atmospherics. ‘Raw Sax’ rounds off with a dusty, skipping drum track shuffling around dreamy filtering synths, dubbed-out stab patterns and of course a sultry sax line.

About Yuu Udagawa
Yuu Udagawa, a Tokyo-based DJ, producer, and sound artist. With a broad variety of inspiring sounds like rock, hip-hop, Latin jazz, techno and house having shaped her inimitable style over the years. It comes as no surprise that Yuu’s music is truly captivating. It is both uplifting and soothing; marked by an elegant sophistication that reflects her desire to find harmony according to Golden Mean theory.
Yuu has been serving crowds at clubs, festivals and fashion shows with her repertoire as a DJ and it was only natural that this creative energy found its way into making music, so prepare to be taken into the groove.
In 2022, she was featured on Manuel Tur’s “Dreamharmonicon (feat. Yuu Udagawa)” release on Compost Records. In 2023, Yuu released her debut EP “Forever” on Cyphon Recordings (UK).
Also Yuu engaged in the creation of audio environment for aquariums, museums, apparel brands, etc., and produced soundscapes, In 2022, Yuu has produced the sound inside of a 3D hologram theatre and 7.1ch sound, sound installations at Japan’s first immersive museum featuring Impressionist masterpieces, such as Monet, Degas, etc, among other commissions.

Yuu Udagawa - Some Time Ago (Manuel Tur Remix Bonus) (Snippet)

Bangla: Magadhan language spoken by the Bengali people; the official language of Bangladesh. 

Bangla: The new release on Discobelle Records from prodigious sewer dwellers Teenage Mutants, stuffed with jacking drums and some obese basslines that would put a crowd of Texan buffet goers to absolute shame. 

Things heat up with title track "Bangla", whose spicy vocal sample is slightly reminiscent of Homework's employment of exuberant yelling from Fissa Tune, the kind of tune that makes you wish you could learn to speak a different language, or at least speak in tongues. Everything stops midtrack for a meditative folk ragaa breakdown, but it doesn't last long, as the track culminates in a sporatic fusion of multicultural colors and lights that will have you reaching for the lasers dancing around on the ceiling no matter where you are. 

The second original track on the EP "Enfants" comes on strong with eardrum punching drums and a rising and falling snyth line that eventually punctures some kind of time / space barrier and goes hurdling through the Universe with a ton of uncontrollable elemental energy radiating off it as it goes careening in and out of vortexes. Maybe the name "Enfants" refers to that gigantic floating baby at the end of "2001: A Space Oddysey"? 

The Coconut Wireless revamp "Bangla" into one of my favorite tech house shotgun blasts of the year, letting the whole thing ride unhinged on the sitar strings, perfectly placed bongo drums and perfectly mixed in handclaps while the cry of "Bangla!" acts as an unexpected punctuation mark to an otherwise unstoppably grooving track, feeling like the unofficial sequel to Disco Dancer's 80's Bollywood dance fusion output. 

Lars Moston adds a hard industrial sheen to Bangla's organic sound, complete with big warehouse buildups and releases, as if he's coated the original in a couple layers of sheet metal. 

Finally, Slap In The Bass inject a nasty, rollicking bassline into "Bangla" then ride it through the back alleys of the Rajshahi Division, adding in some wood block percussion and two hundred percent more elephant noises. If you're able to stand still while listening to it, you're absolutely not human.
