'Neustart' could have beamed straight in from the early 80s, sitting as it does right on the cusp between funkier 70s grooves and the more electronic styles that would come to predominate as the new decade rolled on, and as such should quite comfortably make itself at home in a range of disco, funk or Italo sets. 'Sunset Boulevard', on the other hand, sits more identifiably in the 'faithully 70s-sounding' camp - pyow! pyow! stabs and all - with a little disco-house sheen on top for good measure

Dedicated to the twang of Roland’s silver baseline box with a varied string of artists: DVS1, Marko East & Jordi Chu (whose collaboration sparked the idea of a whole series), Like A Tim via Prins Thomas, Katerina and I:Cube.

The Parisian put it in a nutshell, too: „Although rinsed to death to the point of becoming a parody of itself, acid will last forever.“ Therefore, his Folie Noire is combining the original recipes with hypnotic European influences, while Marko and Jordi present a rough and direct 303-909 live jam, Prins Thomas puts his wickedest smile on Like A Tim’s Wonderline from 2005 and Katerina sets a lucid dream to sanguine music.

Finally, there is a rare and much desired musical outing by the unique DVS1. A direct ode to Chicago’s acid and beatdown styles and its Midwest companions, it is a heads-down-lights-down late night track made for driving up and down Lower Wacker Drive. Trippy trip artwork by the inimitable Gasius.

Trivia: If the piano is the bread of house music, the acid line is its butter!

4 big ol’ chunks of heavy house music are the order of the day from New York producer Ralph Session’s hot new EP for Black Jukebox. Combining his skills as a musician and seasoned DJ along with the technical know-how from his work as an audio engineer, the result is a collection of beautifully crafted, hard-hitting house cutz.
‘That Raw’ features a breathy spoken-word vocal from DJ Amir—one half of the legendary duo Kon & Amir—that laces the soulful, deep production with a hypnotic atmosphere. Thick bass bubbles beneath soaring strings and meandering synth arpeggios to give the track a set-building, big-room feel. ‘Do It’ rocks jaunty snatches of piano and sax over its peppy, skippy beat, with a little New Jersey feel in its incessant, phat-bottomed grove. ‘If You Want’ takes us into a deeper direction with its hazy pad work and dubby touches, with a slinky, rubbery bass groove that throbs hard beneath it all. Turn it up loud and feel it envelop you with its wide-open atmospherics. ‘Raw Sax’ rounds off with a dusty, skipping drum track shuffling around dreamy filtering synths, dubbed-out stab patterns and of course a sultry sax line.

Poised to do some very big things in the very near future, we’re pleased to introduce Discobelle Record’s latest release, which is also the first EP from Brighton’s Guy Andrews. 

Here are four tracks that move seamlessly from metallic arpeggio glossed out club shufflers to organically percussive dance music that’s constantly shifting and mutating. All drawing on different reference points from dance music history, from the darker corners of the percussive spectrum to the upliftingly organic vibes present at unexpected places, it’s a balancing act that feels completely right for moving dancefloors. Grab the “Your Notion” EP over at Juno, Boomkat or any of the other major digital retailers!

“Your Notion” feels like the immediate attention grabber – ecstatic glowing synths rising and falling while overlapping bashy drums and percussive woodblocks carve out a sound that’s feels fit for working out to on warehouses with cement floors without losing its organic vibe. There’s a exercised control in Andrew’s delivery that builds tracks like “Your Notion” to the simmering edge of being a pure dancefloor killer without pushing them into excess.

Meanwhile, “Unita” sounds like a mist-immersed lighthouse from the future sending out a distress signal of an oncoming tsunami or explosion – slightly foreboding piano and trace remains of jazz and experimental afrobeat lingering around the edges while soaring synth stabs bubble up. When they cut out and there’s nothing left but the simmering bass bubbling overtop the complex but instantly catchy drum patterns, it’s a glorious moment that feels almost too spontaneously good to overanalyze.

“Klikkr” begins as a slowly rising percussive chorus of drums and bongos, then slowly morphs into a living organism or sorts – windswept swelling dissonance rises and falls throughout like it’s coming out of the throat of some now-extinct sea creature. The urge to jack to the body in time with the drums never fades away, fortunately.

“Exit” has its own way of burrowing deep into the recesses of your brain – electro acoustic production sounding nuanced enough to make you believe Andrews should have a much larger discography of releases under his belt. What sounds like reverberating xylophone tiles wrapped in resilient drums mixes together smooth enough to make your brain forget that what you’re listening to is dance music, even though your body will absolutely remember.
