Fulgeance - The Wanker

Philadelphia based producer/dj <a href="https://soundcloud.com/dmarston">David Marston</a> recently released his fantastic EP <a href="http://www.beatport.com/release/jamaicalia/1321246">"Jamaicalia"</a> (June 16th on <a href="http://soulclap.us/">Soul Clap Records</a>). 

<em>"Jamaicalia is a marriage of Jamaica and Tropicalia. I first encountered the term Tropicalia as the caption of a photograph taken in Jamaica. Intrigued, I discovered that Tropicalia was an avant-garde art movement that was started in the 1960s in Brazil. The movement came to exemplify cultural hybridity. It encouraged cultural syncretism: the merging of various and divergent artistic influences with the purpose of creating something novel and powerful. I am fascinated by Brazilian music, and the songs that are featured on this EP undoubtedly have strong Brazilian influences. My music, to a great extent, is the result of fusion; it is a creolized music, a pastiche of diverse styles. While my music is not typically Jamaican, Jamaican culture has had a significant influence on my approach to music creation. For me, Jamaicalia is an apt title for this body of music, because it embodies an experimental amalgam of world and dance musical elements."</em>

Saxophonist, vibraphone player and original member of Congolese group African Jazz, Manu Dibango has enjoyed a colourful and distinguished career. Alongside collabs with Kuti and Hancock, Dibango has also lent his musical talents to various film scores, notably to the seminal Sengalese film, Ceddo (dir. Ousmane Sembène). To celebrate the recent reissuing of such a captivating soundtrack, we are premiering our favourite from the release, the album opener and title track, 'Ceddo'.

Extended Beginnings EP out on September 18

Since the start of last year when we first heard his mesmerising debut release, we have been keeping tabs on Zurich based artist Pablo Color. Finally, we can announce the follow up release and it’s a beautiful 7-track album. Once again, he releases via local independent label, Ish Records. Layered with that gorgeous echo-laden guitar we’ve grown accustomed to hearing from Pablo, the album, 'La Calle Roja', is a triumph from start to finish. The LP, on a Japanese-style sleeve written in both English and Japanese, features guests such as Lexx, Gigi Masin, Fu and Chee Shimizu. Premiering on YoungOnes is our pick from the LP, ‘Parasol 7pm’. Head over to the Ish Bandcamp from 16th June to listen to the rest of the album.
