Returning to Exploited for another bite of the cherry, Italian duo gizA djs are back.
‘Something Cool’ blends elements of indie dance and nu disco in its loose, warm feel, with a dash of Italo disco attitude to boot. ‘80s synth pulses set the tone over live percussion and subtle bass, before a sultry male vocal adds more retro feel to the proceedings. Classic disco hi-hats drop in as the vocal switches from English to seductive Italian and big synth chords filter into focus. A sweet arpeggiated lead line thrusts into play as a Daft Punk-esque electric bassline funks away below. An unexpectedly wonky breakdown builds tension, setting us up for a colourful finale where the key elements morph and modulate in a beautiful fusion.

‘Rogue One’ is more of a brooding, atmospheric house affair, but one that comes with dashes of funk. Tribal percussion intersperses a turgid bass groove as mystical trumpet loops tease in and out of the mix. A discofied guitar lick bolsters an infectious, mysterious plucked melody, and imperceptibly the track builds intensity to a crescendo with eerie pads, heady reverbs, ride cymbals, urgent vocal chants and judicious use of FX.

D.S.D. serves up a brand new EP of nu-disco slammers to brighten up the darkest nights.

Think Of You kicks things off with a 5th synth riff, niggling acid and solid nu-disco drums in perfect combination. Deep, hypnotic and ideal for any set, any time.

Flash Atkins and 2 Billion Beats take Think of You and give it some oomph. The riff is amped up, drums are toughened and tension builds to the break before the acid and rave piano produce a hands in the air moment.

Elemental is a mid temp disco chugger pinned down by conga driven drums, a nagging sub and arp. Things build with a piano as pads and EFX cast their cosmic magic.

Just Can't Stop takes a funky bass, vocal stabs, key and brass samples to create a low slung slab of deep groove. Just when things can't get any better, the acid hits.

My Heart keeps the spaced out 4/4 funk alive with a wandering bass, trippy keys, big pads, sampled vocals and delayed arps. Late nights and early mornings never sounded so good.

This is the splendid deep follow up EP by our favorite Liverpool artist Petals In Sound. After her great label debut last summer where she already showed us her wonderful atmospheric electronic sound, she now continues on a journey through that same spaced- out house territory. “Dial Tone” and “Lush” are both laid back groovers that sooth every dancefloor and are perfect late, or better, early hours tunes to steer dancers gently towards sunrise and out of smoke filled clubs, homewards with warm musical memories of a danced and spaced out night.

“The Sea and Everything in It” is a personal fave here as it combines great percussive rhythms with her unique style, arpeggios and dark synths electronica, deep like a warm spring day. The outdoor raves will be a perfect setting for this one! Last we asked our other new label member Pete Bandit from Berlin to remix “Lush”. With his own debut “Wild Feelings” he already set the tone showcasing his expert percussive and driving house sound. Here again he turned the original into a loopy “New York House” style jam with cool funky drums that fit in perfectly with the other tracks and make this whole EP a tight and delightful package. 4 big ol’ chunks of heavy house music are the order of the day from New York producer Ralph Session’s hot new EP for Black Jukebox. Combining his skills as a musician and seasoned DJ along with the technical know-how from his work as an audio engineer, the result is a collection of beautifully crafted, hard-hitting house cutz.
‘That Raw’ features a breathy spoken-word vocal from DJ Amir—one half of the legendary duo Kon & Amir—that laces the soulful, deep production with a hypnotic atmosphere. Thick bass bubbles beneath soaring strings and meandering synth arpeggios to give the track a set-building, big-room feel. ‘Do It’ rocks jaunty snatches of piano and sax over its peppy, skippy beat, with a little New Jersey feel in its incessant, phat-bottomed grove. ‘If You Want’ takes us into a deeper direction with its hazy pad work and dubby touches, with a slinky, rubbery bass groove that throbs hard beneath it all.
