The Beard Science crew - an invite-only group of secretive scalpel fiends - first made their name with the excellent Razor Sharp Edits series of limited 12" singles. Here they venture into the digital domain for the first time with a typically eccentric selection of clandestine reworks for Australia's Superbreak imprint. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the loose-limbed stoner funk of "Dance Moves (45 Badger Edit)" and glassy-eyed disco-soul of "Ready (Ceramic Condensed Re-Cut)", to the Clav-happy stomp of "We Got That Big Ghetto Vibe (Tokyo Editsu)" and dancefloor-beating funk breaks hustle of "Break It Down (Amiga Amigos Cut & Paste)". In short, a great selection of floor-friendly edits of obscure gems. What's not to like?

I have been thinking about it a lot and I have decided that DUFFDISCO007 is the last bootleg I am going to press to wax. It's been fun and I hope you all enjoyed them but I think it's the right time to stop. (you can order the last in the series here - http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/450211-01.htm)

I do however want to continue re-imagining songs and giving my interpretation of them for you to play and listen to and so i'll be giving the reworks away for free. I have set up a donations page if anyone wanted to help with covering the costs of mastering future tracks as i'd still want the best sound possible as I can't afford to be paying for it all myself.

Blue skies and late nights, camp fires and cheap delights and whisky drained straight from the jar. In a hammock slung below a sky of dreams and sea of stars lay a pop princess and a hip hop pioneer, arms entwined and eyes locked into each other’s stare they whisper sweet –nothings to each other, “You’re flash” he says “take it slow” she purrs back “and don’t even don’t think about going down under!”
 
A mile or two out to sea, floats what has come to be known as a mega-yacht. Aboard his life like an episode of MTV Cribs but with more parties and less gold-encrusted pool tables. Surrounded by beauties by the bevy and sipping on gin and juice, Duff scans the horizon with his telescope (solid platinum, encrusted with diamonds, built in infa red) and spies young love or a new hope. Smiling to himself he thinks “they look different, younger perhaps at least changed, if not for the better but changed at least which is surely a good thing”. He turns to the girls on the boat, one hand pointing to the shore and the other raising his drink to the sky he shouts “I helped create that”

Australia's Dave Mathmos brings us a five-track re-edit EP that digs impressively deep for inspiration. 'Slick Talk' revisits Asha Puthli's 1976 Indo-disco nugget 'Space Talk' (a favourite at The Loft) and is every bit as hypnotic and sensual as the original. 'Just... A Lonely Soul' reworks Labi Siffre's 'I Got The' from 1975 (the source for Eminem's 'My Name Is') and comes in hazy, druggy Part 1 and more immediately floor-friendly Part 2 forms, while finally 'Sell The House' and the fairly self-explanatory 'Sell The Dub' are based on a 1976 Ashford & Simpson album cut of the same name.
