What an atrociously brief summer, I'm still convinced somebody fucked up the calendars this year and a couple of months got skipped. But as short as it was, it was also pretty awesome, and I'd like to pay tribute to the best season around with a specially dedicated Delishcast that ties together all the thangs that got me moist over the hot months - some old favourites and some new gems. I've finally got off my ass and done a proper DJ mix to showcase a few of the super rad deep sounds coming out of Melbourne at the moment as well as some old faves I've neglected for a long time. I couldn't think of a better way to kick things off than with a couple of Lewie Day productions - the biggest of the big wigs from the past couple of years in Melbourne's deep house scene. From there, there's some stuff from Victorian dudes Weekend Express, Fantastic Man and Sleep D who are all currently killing it.

I like the idea of doing mixes which start off bright and energetic and slowly that energy dissipates and things become a bit darker or gloomier or more obscure - where 'shit gets real'. So that's kinda what this is. It won't be inspiring anybody to win the DMC or anything like that but I'm not patient enough to do anything twice - so deal with it :)

As much as I despise winter, this past one has been pretty cool music-wise. I figured I should get a clubby kinda mix down that covers the colder months before summer laziness sets in and beat mixing becomes a sin. Kinda got the 10pm to 4am spectrum here - some spooky mellowness to start off with, some funky stuff to get feet shuffling, some clubbiness for peak time pumping and some euphoric 'please go home now' cheese to end the night. Loose Grooves for Cruisy Drives and Loungey Hangs

DSR is back with a new 7" release by Norwegian fivesome hubbabubbaklubb.

The band, of which Danish edit maestro Joystick Jay is a member, weave an all-live smooth disco vibe with toasty warm synths and a stoned summer aura.

'Mopedbart' is best mixed with a hammock, cold beer and a sunset as it jams along with mellow pads, hand claps and the story of a dude cruising around town on his scooter living it easy. 'Lille Sote Svanse' picks up the pace for a popping disco cut which simmers away with its bass-heavy groove before giving way to a stunning Rick Wright-inspired lead break journey into the stratosphere.

Both sides ooze colour and transport anybody within earshot straight to a toasty world of deck chairs, disco dancing and good times.

FBi Guest Mix 02/10/09

So this pile of old CDRs has been sitting next to my turntables for months and months, including these unmarked discs which I assumed were just five of the millions of burnt CDs I've never managed to throw out over the years. Last week I decided to listen to them, expecting some mad bangers from 07 or something, and instead they're crammed full of all this glorious music I've never heard before - folk, psychedelic, jazz-funk, all sorts of good shit. I haven't got the faintest idea how I got them or who made them, but whoever's responsible is really rather brilliant. 

Naturally I got all excited and felt the burning desire to share this bonerising music. So, here's this mix-not-mix to showcase a bunch of my favourite cuts from the discs. I really wish I could take credit for this, but the glory is due entirely to this mysterious digger who either graciously gave me this music without me remembering, or was the unlucky victim of some sort of drunken CD heist which I managed to pull off without remembering, or some other scenario which I can't imagine and obviously don't remember. If you are/know this masked psychedelic king or queen, please make yourself known so I can apologise for my hysterically bad memory and shower you with praises.
