Baybi is the fourth and final single taken from the hotly-tipped album “Sprinkles” by Kasper Bjørke. 

As with all Kasper’s output, Baybi is exquisitely produced, resolutely innovative, and perfectly realized with its bouncy mid- tempo, groovy bass line and a deliberately camp vibe from a strangely familiar synthetic saxophone theme - which makes Baybi sounds like a worry free and breezy summer day boat party in a balearics, sometime in the early 2000s. 

Also included is a remix by none other than a living legend: The ever impressive Roman Flügel; who has taken on the original signature elements and turned them into a proper peak time anthem - and will be our safest bet in delivering some transcendental moments on many open air dance floors this summer. The full album Sprinkles will be out July 30th!

Cementing himself as an integral part of the French Indie music scene, French producer and multi-instrumentalist Crayon, real name Lauren Larue, signed to Erased Tapes in 2021 to herald in a new chapter in his life.

His two track EP, consisting of Misplaced and Ithinkso, sees him going back to his electronic, UK-infused roots. Whilst the opening song Misplaced — featuring vocals from Gracy Hopkins and Jo Lowenthal of Australian indie band Tora — maintains a clearer narrative; the second is a blend of traditional 00’s uk garage and jazz, almost fully instrumental. It’s this clear contrast the producer wanted to explore further, made possible by spending a month away in Morocco with choreographer Leo Walk and a bunch of other creatives and friends in early 2020. While Misplaced had already been recorded several months before, Ithinkso was sitting comfortably amongst a raft of other unfinished songs in Crayon’s hard drive. “It was only after seeing Leo’s excitement at first listen, and the incredible and abstract dance moves he would throw while discovering the song that I knew I had to do something with it,” the artist recalls.

As he and Leo went to spend a week at Plastician’s mystical domain Jean Francois Fourtou, in the outskirts of Marrakech, they found themselves submerged in a parallel world, surrounded by giant sculptures of insects, and a fully equipped, real sized reversed house. One quiet night they decided to experiment together with Leo repeating specific moves, almost turning himself into a human boomerang, while Crayon’s assignment was to write an assimile yet efficient electronic beat to it. After sampling a very short bit from French Soul singer Enchantée Julia (who Crayon was producing for at the time), Ithinkso was born, named after what they would both hear phonetically from the sample.

Both tracks wouldn’t have been completed without yet another collaborator, Crayon’s then roommate Bastien Brison, a Paris based jazz pianist. Together they held, when Lauren returned from the trip, what they simply called The Jazz Club in their apartment. It was a weekly jam/live painting/dancing event that they opened to a (not so) small lucky audience as a way to cope with the absence of live music, and events in general. Once again, the clear contrast between traditional jazz music and modern sounds and movements, that gave him the urge to make this project.

What starts as a meandering and sludgy, detuned synth-driven soundscape quickly evolves into a driving and pulsating track with a frenetic energy that feels somehow both explosive and delicate.  The track moves between dense synth harmonies effortlessly taking the listener on a journey into different  dystopian sound-worlds, whilst always feeling like safety is just around the corner.'

Parisian newcomers O.N.O (comprised of French comedian and DJ, Nathalie Duchene and her friend Rudy Kobain) follow up their feisty debut ‘Modern Dance’ (which included a remix by Yuksek) with another quirky dancefloor smash, reworking traditional Jewish celebratory folk song, ‘Hava Nagila’.
“We wanted to show a part of orientalism with O.N.O ” says Rudy. “ I made this track a long time ago because I am Jewish and this song is a part of my life. We decided to add it to the project and bring something more poppy and worldwide-focused. During our DJ set we found out that everybody knows this song. It's also a meaning of happiness and peace: ‘Let us rejoice all together, let’s sing and be happy together’. It's a spiritual thing! ”
It’s a startling interpretation of this famous song, with the lead melody played through delayed, plucked synth, and the track underpinned by funky electro bass and sharp beats. Aside from the famous chorus, additional vocal verses are added to add some extra dancefloor context. Eastern string melodies play in the background to add a cinematic feel.
‘Violent’ is another superb concoction, stomping away with their fast-becoming-trademark electro bass and drums, more dramatic strings panning in dizzying fashion, distorted acidic arpeggios and vocodered vocal samples adding a dark touch. With a driving, metronomic beat, it charges through the dancefloor, destroying all in its path.
