Legendary Spanish producer, remixer and mastering heavyweight K-Effect graces Discolypso with a second EP, following on from Awareness back in 2020. Something Stronger does exactly what it says on the tin! 

The lead track is an uncompromising assault of sound, like futuristic sinister steam locomotive that smashes into you and knocks you for six. This is a track worthy of the biggest rude boy sound system - treat with caution. 

The B-side Arms in equally slick in production, but easier on the pacemaker.

These two tracks are an unraveling journey not to be taken lightly, and we caution listeners to let themselves loose to get lost in space.

Dombrance Explains:

For 5 years I’ve been using the names of politicians to create pieces of music. This formula has enabled me to create characters and give a fun visual identity to each song. I have been very lucky to work with the talented Olivier Laude in developing these graphics for my artwork and the animated visuals I use on stage.

It has been an honour to work alongside INA (The French National Audiovisual Institute) – who allowed me to dig deep into the French archives and create video pieces to go with my last album ‘Republique Electronique’. The pairing of retro footage from Paris in the 1960s – remixed alongside my music has worked really well at my shows!

For months now, I have been working on new productions, but I wanted to end this politician cycle in style with two songs….. the final bouquet

On the menu: ‘Copé’, who disappeared suddenly from circulation after publicly mistaking the price of a ‘pain au chocolat’!!

‘Bayrou’, another politician – who thought he finally came to power with Macron, but had to leave the government barely after entering it, indicted for embezzlement of public funds!

To accompany them, a completely crazy video, a first dive into live animation from the genius graphic designer Olivier Laude, animated by his friend Ulysse Lefort. They worked hours of labor, homemade with a burst of colours, humour, and a lot of love. A mix of French comics, American cinema, and Japanese manga.

Dombrance - Double Trouble EP

After having collaborated on our last Dombrance Ep ‘Double Trouble’ with a dreamy remix of ‘Bayrou’, Daniele Baldelli & Dionigi and Discolypso have teamed up on an full EP release - Tropical City. 

To fully appreciate this album we must dedicate an ode to the two legends of Italian dance music. 
Daniele Baldelli, “father of all Italian DJs” and pioneer of the Cosmic Disco from the 80s, and Marco Dionigi with his hypnotic dark wave sound, who partnered together to bend the norms of experimental dance music, stemming from a disco basis. 

This new EP ‘Tropical City’ displays melodies and beats that could be heard in the tropical jungle of a far away planet.

From the uplifting ‘Around the Curve’, to the deeply funky ‘Stabile’ and finally the hypnotic disco masterpiece that is ‘Tropical City’, this EP can be both enjoyed sipping a sunset cocktail by the pool or under the full moon light of a summer beach rave. 

To match these unique productions and artist duo, we enlisted a remix roster from both well known names and underground legends that expressed their very diverse and unique interpretation. 

First up is Scandinavian space disco kingpin Rune Lindbaek, who took the ‘Tropical City’ into his own disco spaceship, soaring through the galaxies.  

Dan Tyler of Idjut Boys felt so inspired he made two versions of 'Tropical City' - an official cosmic remix great for any dance floor, and a 'reprise' (Think DRUMS!).

In a similar manner, Man Power blessed us with two remixes - one glorious build up of an Ambient version for Around The Curve and a hypnotic dance tune of the same track that will spiral any party into new directions, including a sinister yet romantic piano riff. 

Rich Lane flaired his versatility and came up with two very different versions of Around the Curve - an Ambient Dub and a chugging trippy deep house remix. Imagine washing the track through an Acid rinse. 

Fellow Italian Danilo Braca, who added strings, synths, breaks and… vocals to ‘Around the Curve’ , bringing his balearic influence to what could be a Kyoto-based listening bar. 

Finally, Spanish producer K-Effect reworked ‘Stabile’ into a dance floor banger that is sure to get the feet stomping.

Daniele Baldelli - Tropical City EP

Friend of the Crew and lover of Acid Bass Lines - Algy Strutt is making waves both as a DJ and producer.

Future Flashbacks is an escalating slab of dark cosmic slo-mo disco that draws inspiration from pantheon of sources, including The Unknown Cases' Masimbabele, Lindstrom, Diskjokke, Billy Idol and Andrew Weatherall's A Love From Outer Space series.

Driven power chords, rolling multi-layered bass lines, trippy vocal samples, 80s-tinged guitar licks and a healthy dose of acid power this chugger through to an arpeggiated breakdown that builds to a cosmic crescendo that drops to bring all the elements back together.

We have managed to put together this EP with some seriously killer remixes. I've been a fan of James Rod and Rune Lindbaek's studio work for many years and I'm thrilled that these class acts have worked their cosmic magic with such great results!

Algy's Production notes: "This was a project that started life several years ago as an experiment when making the transition from Logic to Ableton. It was shelved for a few years while I worked on other projects and was resurrected when I found out I was due to become a father in a few months' time, so I wanted to get one last tune finished, and Flashbacks provided the perfect base. I upgraded many of the original synth and bass parts with newly acquired analogue synthesisers, recorded the guitar parts and beefed up the acid. Some of the original percussion parts remain, though have been twisted out of all recognition by running them through a series of distortion units, analogue delays and various other pieces of outboard gear. The breakdown originally consisted of a blues-rock style organ riff, which was pared back to more of a pad, but didn't sit well with the new sound the track had acquired, so it was replaced by a whirling italo-cosmic arpeggiator part played on a Sequential Circuits Prophet 6 that was immensely fun to record live."

Algy Strutt - Future Flashbacks (James Rod Remix)

Beyond The Struttosphere is a new collaboration between Leo Strutt (Strutt Bros DJs) and Ben Chetwood (Flying Mojito Bros, Damian Lazarus’s Ancient Moons) aimed at channelling their considerable musical production experience and boundless love of cosmic dark disco. Their first track, New Frontier (Directors Cut), was self-released late in 2019 and is a slow-burning chug through the cosmos, littered with spacey vintage synth motifs and crunchy power chords. It found much acclaim among Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnson’s A Love From Outer Space online fraternity, and was featured in The Juan Mclean’s (DFA Records) recent contribution to Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space mix series. The original is given a makeover by K-Effect, a stalwart of the dark disco scene. His take meanders down a progressive cosmic wormhole with driving basslines and trippy synth riffs that drive the tune to its spaced-out finale. 

Rolling Thunder, a faster, more forthright dancefloor-orientated affair that means business. Complete with gnarly arpeggiator riffs, swirling psychedelic delay lines, a trippy vocal sample borrowed from Platoon, and their now trademark driven guitar power chords. The title track has been given the remix treatment by two aficionados of the scene, firstly the Mexican dark disco wizard Mufti turns up the heat, beefs up the bass, and dials the chug up to 11 to deliver a solid dancefloor destroyer. Cosmic disco legend James Rod delivers a second remix that strips the track right back to its core elements resulting in a minimal slow burner filled with dirty analogue electronics that builds up like a pressure cooker as the track progresses towards its conclusion. The EP finishes with a third remix by the Gouranga Clan, which reimagines the track as a driving interstellar trip that is sure to spin out a few right-minded partygoers!

Two years ago we shared Dombrance's Taubira to celebrate the artist's debut show on American soil. That show was at the first of our legendary Bowery Ballroom parties in New York City. Now the crew present a selection of remixes from some of their frequent collaborators.

Dombrance is a French DJ and producer who has been releasing selective, highly regarded work for almost 20 years gracing labels like Kitsune, Virgin Records and Yuksek’s Partfine. The single ‘Taubira’ appeared exclusively via our channel two years ago and now returns for a full release with a stellar set of remixes.

The package opens with the hypnotic, arpeggiated excellence of the original before handing the reins to the assembled remix team. The mixes are bookended by two adaptations from new kid on the block Josh Ludlow who opens things with a powerful club edit with a deep, heady feel and closes out with a pumping 80’s Italo rework. Between these two variations, we have the ‘Clan Disko Dub’ from respected Slovenian producer Ichisan who teams up with the Gouranga Clan to go down a percussive & acidic route. Alongside this, Spain’s James Rod turns in an extended and intense revision that takes things into tripped out, late-night territory.

At the centre of all this is the jewel in an already gleaming crown as Norwegian Cosmic God Prins Thomas takes the track down a psychedelic bass trip - stretched out over a blissful eleven minutes to create something truly timeless.

New York based Italian producer Luigi Sambuy graces us with his long awaited release ‘Gemini EP’, named after the two iconic 1960s space shuttles that were sent into space concurrently. 

For Luigi Sambuy, this EP represents an ascension into deeper space, exploring sounds that are different from his previous releases on Anjunadeep and Mechanical. 

We are also very proud to have teamed up with artist Alaia De Santis, who brought the essence of this EP to life in the cover artwork. 
The two tracks on this EP are very diverse in style and purpose. 

First up is Gemini 6, evocative of an ancient distant sound, brought into the future through an amalgamation of breakbeats and synth waves. This track features a rare Partos Trocados vocal sample. 

Gemini 7 is a deep and dreamy house track, which gently evolves over time bringing our mind to a peaceful state of ecstasy. 

Following the two originals we have a series of remixes, each with its own unique style. The first two, coming from Italian producers. 

Etna reworks Gemini 6, giving it his own tribal deep twist, adding melodic strings that give us a sense of timelessness and journey. 

Next up is Danilo Braca, one of Italy’s finest exports on the underground Brooklyn scene. His remix of Gemini 6 is quite hard to pinpoint to a genre. Comprised of spatial sounds, acid notes and a thrilling guitar riff performed live by Alvise Marino, Danilo’s remix ventures back and forth from space and the wild west. 

Finally we have one of Britain’s most exciting young acts, Dharma, adding his signature electronic sound on Gemini 7. A faster pace and new exciting elements, give us an exciting dance floor trippy moment.
