It is an honor for us to kick start with two of the bulwarks of our label: Clip! and Kresy. Two Spanish artists that will attract great attention this year.

Clip!, a Barcelonian with a taste for energic, overwhelming beats, who recently released an ep with Struments. House with a techno flavour and an eye kept on UK groove, he delights us with his mix of strength and exuberance.

“Everyday” is a 4×4 cannonball with wild synths and rave echoes destined to shake any sound system with extreme violence. Killer kicks and hi-hats, encouraged by a passionate female voice. Classic pianos and powerful leads clambering intertwined all through out the track.

“You still love her”, quieter, has a cool cadence, with percussions and vocal melodies that float around with hypnotic flare. The production is clean and tasteful and reminds us to the newest hiphop out there. Really catchy material for the most elegant dancefloors.

Kresy comes from Hivern’s quarry. John Talabot’s label, this platform gave him the opportunity to make himself visible with his most personal and intense tracks. We can also find Kresy’s releases in other great labels, such as Freerange, Retrofit, More Music, Southern Fried Rec or Lovemonk.

“Do you wanna know?” is a retrospective sparkle that remembers the euforic awakening of the rave era. Open pads and acid lines, riding deliberately vintage beats, in what it could be some obscure reference from early Warp releases.

“Brooklyn 70’s” is an evocative house track that drips rhodes sounds and warm pads through a funky beat. Its imposible not to imagine moving frames of the New York traffic, leather jackets, moustaches, adidas and sexy afro- americans, reflected in the back of your
subconscious mind.

Four aparently different tracks, but mysteriously coherent. Just the idea we want to develope in Discomaths.

Discomaths 002 brings us CLIP's sweetest and most emotional side. Further removed from his techno facet, but no less intense.

"Only one" is made up of warm synths and summery atmospheres that breeze through the dusk of a summer of romance, recreating an unrelenting declaration of love amid kisses and caresses.

"Love harder" bears down on the dance floor with a powerful and thick base that is peppered by constant ultra-funky synth lashes, playful percussions, lustful vocals and drippy atmospheres. This cocktail of lust is the dirtiest and most sensual track of the EP.

"Hope you feel" builds on the same feeling from "Only one", and gives it extra intensity. If "Hope you feel" reflects the full power of infatuation, "Love harder" shows us unbridled passion and "Only one", consummate love.

"U don't have to" is reminiscent of reconciliation, a tender apology, a misunderstanding threatening a romance. Its beautiful sad undertones suggest the harm done, and the harmony, together with the vocals, makes up the perfect ending for an EP that revolves around the highest and purest feelings any person can have.

DM003 gets the Black Maths series off the ground. Black Maths is all about the most introspective of the rhythms that can get the dance floor on fire. One artist per side displaying their separate musical universes with one common link: mystery. A mystery that goes from placid to oppressive, sometimes even bordering on unnerving. Black Maths is above all an exciting journey through sound.

Side A is home to Rumore, a recent discovery whose debut consists of two dense tracks dug from his live set like treasure from an archaeological site.

In "Trax 6" a mix of deep chords and throbbing bass frequencies fills the atmosphere with a magma made of soul-charged sounds. This volcanic melt goes beyond the sense of hearing and becomes spiritual as well as physical. Lovers of subsonic frequencies will understand. Hi-hats in constant evolution create a sense of expectation, along with the stabs, which are pure pleasure. This is the perfect track to get the sound system vibrating and the set off to a good start, inviting all in attendance to partake in a dancing ceremony.

"Trax 9" picks the spacious sensations of TRAX 6 and takes them to another world. An extinct civilisation, decadent though honourable and magnificent. While you listen, this fantastic journey takes you diving surrounded by dolphins in search for Atlantis. You can hear the distant echoes of its peoples, feel the tribal percussion and the instruments swathed in golden delays in the form of unknown harps.

Side B is reserved to US artist North Lake, who dazzled us two years ago with the amazing "Griswold".
Albeit unknowingly, "Traurigkeit" takes us deeper into the underwater trip we started with Trax 9. Here we reach the abyssal zone and tension and risk are on the increase. Basses become sharper, chords more menacing and sound effects take us this way and that like underwater currents or become sonar echoes. The sci-fi synth lead that surfaces from time to time reminds us that despite the danger, we are contemplating something beautiful and unique while we are safe aboard the Nautilus.

"Steam Tunnels" could continue the journey towards the abyss, but it doesn't. We suddenly find ourselves within the oppressive confines of a pyramid, in corridors full of perils and death traps. Untranslatable inscriptions, malicious spirits, mummies, narrow passageways, torches, snares, stuffy atmosphere and ancestral dust.

There is no way back.

House-centric producer Kresy began his production career with a pair of storming EP's for Hivern Discs, back in 2012, and since then he's popped up on some of the finest club labels going; Freerange and Retrofit being up there in the ranks. This week, he's back on Discomaths with New Experiences On Old Hardware, and EP clearly dedicated to an analogue sound and chunky warehouse beats. "Frog Acid", as the name implies, is a bundle of 303 magic mixed up with metallic percussion and a dusty swing, followed by the hefty 4/4 to-and-fro of the bleepy 'Washelator". Over on the flip, "It's All Really Happening" sees the producer return to more familiar territories thanks to a powerful, warm-as-hell bass swing, and some gorgeous broken chords. Tip!

[DM004] Kresy - New Experiences On Old Hardware

London based punk duo Black Volume are not easy to classify. 

Their delirious industrial post punk sounds at times like proto house and at times becomes some sort of mutant electro. Their B Series sound is made of a conglomerate of filthy percussions, unexpected samples and something with the appearance of melody, with a weirdly addictive result.

Black Rubber is James Brown wearing black leather at 40ºC (in the shade) while suffering a mental breakdown. Excentric melodies sliding down rhythmic dislexia.

Negative Return blooms from an improvised beat with no traceable sequence, on top of which we find rubbery synth lines, creamy interferences and mysterious sampling, everything sounds like melting from old vhs footage

With The Future we enter a romantic dystopia. Sensual and passionate but equally  crunchy, it rises up through cheap calculator arpeggios, pitched vocals and obsessive bass lines.

Streetfight evoques a desolate landscape, devastated and radioactive. Distant echoes from an extinguished human race that left behind only majestic rusty ruins.

After releasing on Hot Haus records and Pitch Down, Rumore returns home to Discomaths with a collection of tropical beats and healing atmospheres. Cuts that are as deep and thought out, as they are danceable.

On the A- side Tucano is shaking its exotic feathers, surrounded by swirling arpegios and the distant whistles of the jungle. It takes you on a voyage to the deeps of the rain forest, as it alternates between the clarity of its pre-Columbian flutes and the magical mist lifted by its leads.

On the more introspective B- side, we submerge ourselves into Boreale, experiencing what would dusk be like in a perfect world. Emotional catharsis a waits as the intricate breaks float above the strings and pads that seem to emerge from the bottom of the ocean, and the chemical arpeggios colours the water around them.

The release closes with La Fonte, a pleasurable well that bubbles of new age. The humid guitars and warm vapours pass over us in a paused moment of hypnotic massage.
