EXT041 - Bass Stuff, marks the emergence of the most recent alias “Dun Dun”, by the Portuguese producer Diogo Vasconcelos.

Essentially marked by timbral richness and an elaborate programming of percussion sounds, “Bass Stuff” draws some of its inspiration from the worlds of Gqom and Dancehall.

“Bass Uppers” and “Abambo” make up the first part, where the references to Gqom are more evident, ending up being almost like two versions of the same song, where the same elements are articulated in different ways, taking into account the tempo over which they are built upon.

“Can’t Stop” and “Get Them!”, find themselves more inspired by the slow and warm rhythms of Dancehall, without ever leaving aside the sonic palette that structures the entire album, and which is also built around a somehow dark atmosphere, and where voice samples are predominantly used as rhythmic interjections.

The EP closes with a bombastic remix by Will Bowen, aka Pluralist.  Picking up “Abambo”, he removes it from any kind of inhibitions and transforms it into a luminous bomb for the dance floor, completed with a section featuring triplet kicks. Maximum respect for this artist! Just hoping that Dun Dun’s release will be able to do you justice.

EXT041 - Dun Dun - Bass Stuff

Who would have thought... After 16 years since he started his career as a DJ, Gonçalo aka Terzi is now taking his first steps into production! With an easy smile and contagious good humor, his love for House is well known by everyone. Hence, it is more than natural that, when he finally decides to sit down in the studio with Diogo to produce, the result is exactly that: House. “Podia Ser Melhor” (PT for “it could be better”) is an EP that does justice to Gonçalo’s personality: honest, direct, sunny music with hints of naive genius, which come out as naturally and spontaneously as he grabs the mic to sing.

The first track “Estamos Na Pista” is an immediate hit. Classic house with nervous snares, tied to a heavy kick and bass, with a laid back vocal, reminiscent of some Portuguese pop hits from the 90s, and reflecting the most prosaic of passions on the dance floor (Dr. Sax or Bamboo Beat, “rings a bell”?).

The second track, “Bem Disposto” starts at a faster pace and immediately tests Gonçalo’s Hip Hop skills. Those who know him know that he missed out on a glorious career in the genre. If “Fetra” had discovered these skills early on, we would certainly have seen a feat with Iguanas by now... Catchy and rhythmic hooks and simple themes, taken from the banality of everyday life, reflect the positivity and lightness with which he faces each day... All this before the switch that happens by the middle of the track, and which quickly transforms it into some acid madness, driven by a “sampled” break and with some rave stabs in the mix.

A light and sunny EP, with a celebratory tone, ready to bring countless embarrassed smiles to the dance floor, from those who have found themselves in these situations a thousand times. Could it be better? It could. But it certainly wouldn't be half as fun!

EXT040 - Gonçalo - "Podia Ser Melhor"

@diogosvp and @morenoacido first crossed paths in Lisbon back in 2016, collaborating on the production of the Roçadas EP (Holuzam, 2019). "Pappa’s Preach" is one of the duo’s lost tracks, waiting five years to finally emerge into the world on Extended Records, complemented with a club-ready Floorforce remix.

The track has an uneasy and unshakable apocalyptic vibe that feels even more relevant today than it did back in 2020. "The end of the world, is upon us" warns Darin Pappas. "pretty soon it will all turn to dust." His premonitions have never felt so certain.

"Pappa’s Preach" is a mutant, twisted house cut, drenched in dark atmosphere and anchored by a swinging percussion groove. The ominous melodies are paired with a sermon from Darin Pappas (aka Ithaka), lending his name to the track's title, delivering a prophetic warning of an imminent catastrophe — an iconic vocal popularised by the classic track "So Get Up" by Underground Sound of Lisbon (DJ Vibe & Rui da Silva).
"Pappa’s Preach (Floorforce Remix)" brings us back to light and to the club. A bass bomb made to drive dance floors into ecstasy. It starts with tension, buzzing like a swarm of bees, and when the pressure breaks free, it erupts with a heavy Reese bass and shuffling hi-hats.

Floorforce’s remix isn’t quite a remix — it’s a brand new cut, inspired by the original, with a cheeky wink to USL’s "So Get Up", especially in the lead that emerges halfway through. The remix offers a first taste of a full EP slated for release later this year, on Extended Records. Floorforce is an alias of @migueltorga.

We met Leese at Listen Festival in Brussels. We were already playing her tunes on YUKU for some time, but it was her Live show that really throw us off our seats. We went to giver props after the show and our vibes just clicked. “—Hey, we saw your gig, and it was amazing! We danced our legs of!”, we said. “—Yeah! I saw you!”, she said with a smile. That’s all it takes.

Leese is a Brussels-based producer and DJ who’s been getting buzz for her sound - rooted in Bass Music and pulling percussive influences from breakbeat and tribal.

“Aasma” draws from Drum & Bass, fast Electro and Deconstructed Club. 3 intense tracks of fast broken beats with vocal samples and sprinkles of melody. “Aziza” starts with a jackhammer-like rhythm over a half- step beat, before a wailing siren and sprinkles of Baile Funk vocals take over. “Sarma” has a more subdued and hypnotic feel that builds into a rush of trance-y synths. On “Astrakka”, Leese collaborates with RAVL to produce a 145 BPM banger, with heavy rolling kicks and metallic percussion.

“This EP feels a little special. Slowly but surely, I’m finding my way back to more melodic, more “musical” vibes, and that’s the spirit that shaped this project. It also marks my second collaboration with my friend RAVL—a creative connection that keeps evolving and surprising me.”

"Este é o som Sérgio?" ou "Este é o som do Sérgio?". A pergunta das perguntas parece boba, mas ela foi postulada em 2019 para responder a Guerrinha uma nova ideia de som: Um som garage super apelativo, para que se pudesse eliminar qualquer tipo de dúvida sobre o facto dos sets de Guerrinha serem divertidos, e de que o próprio conseguiria mixar ritmos suingados. Sérgio é o pseudônimo de Guerrinha para isso, e desde o seu primeiro lançamento em 2019 com o álbum “Utensílios” estranhamente se tornou o pseudônimo mais tocado, com alguns pequenos hits na pequena cena brasileira. Após o drama pandêmico, voltou em 2022 com o álbum "Mais Utensílios" e o single "Fantabobi / Riquititas", dois lançamentos que novamente cresceram o bom problema de outros djs constantemente pedirem essas faixas para Guerrinha. Agora lança o 12'' "Pelo da Churreia" via Discos Extendes, feito em 2020 e contendo pequenos sucessos garagescos daquela época.  Todas essas informações elevam as perguntas iniciais, uma vez que Sérgio não é só um pseudônimo, mas sim a maldição que cresceu do próprio Guerrinha, as vezes é na apelação que bicho pega.

"Is this the sound Sérgio?" or "Is this Sergio's sound?". The question of the questions seems silly, but it was postulated in 2019 to answer Guerrinha a new sound idea: A super appealing garage sound, so that any kind of doubt about the fact that Guerrinha's sets being fun, and that he himself would be able to mix swinging rhythms, would be eliminated. Sérgio is Guerrinha’s pseudonym for this, and since its first release in 2019 with the album “Utensílios” it has strangely become his most played alias, with a few small hits in the small Brazilian scene. After the pandemic drama, he returned in 2022 with the album "Mais Utensílios" and the single "Fantabobi / Riquititas", two releases that again grew the good problem of other djs constantly asking Guerrinha for these tracks. Now he releases the 12'' "Pelo da Churreia" via Discos Extendes, made in 2020 and containing small garage hits from that time. All this information raises the initial questions, since Sérgio is not just a pseudonym, but the curse that grew inside  Guerrinha himself, sometimes it's in the appeal that “the bug catches on”.

If “Sempre a Correr” was the warm-up, then “Homo Hustle” is the final sprint to cross the finish line in style. “Homo Hustle” lands on Discos Extendes to confirm what we all already knew: the future of Portuguese dance music passes through Phoebe, aka Bruno Gonçalves. If his central role as founder of collectives such as “mina” and “Troublemaker Records” were not enough, or his role as programmer in festivals such as “Rama em Flor” or “Ano Zero”, or even as a central figure of the essential non-club “Planeta Manas”... or even as an agent at his own “Myth Agency”! Bruno Gonçalves still manages to find time to dj and produce! And he doesn't do it carelessly. Homo Hustle is a tight and muscular record that reveals his attention to the state of the art of dance music, without ever forgetting the original legacy of house. These were the tracks that he has shown us somewhere in 2021 and that we were so willing to release! A straightforward dance record made to shake your booty. A record that fits Extended Records like a glove!

In “Sempre a Correr” it was the “unstoppable urgency” that distinguishes Phoebe that was spoken about. A very raw, almost naked record, anchored in the 4/4 rhythm and the strength of the kick. Almost a year later, arrives “Homo Hustle”; a direct, muscular album, also aimed at the dance floor, but here with another type of nuances, more musical, which reveals the maturation of Phoebe as a producer. “Afternoon Blaze” is still a transitional track. Anchored in 4/4 with an offbeat bass, reminiscent of some songs by Detroit techno legend Robert Hood, develops into a crescendo where multiple rhythmic patterns and stabs are added to the track over 5 minutes until finally everything explodes! “Go” abandons 4/4, moving towards an aesthetic closer to electro but with great emphasis on claps instead of the traditional snare drums, and with a strong insistence on the repetition and manipulation of the vocal “Give You More” in what seems to be a promise of total delivery on the dancefloor. Side B opens with the hedonism of “Estou Perdido” tied to a drum break and with a somewhat nostalgic and highly emotional soundscape. Without ever abandoning a somewhat dirty and saturated aesthetic, the succession of ravy stabs and a long and continuous horn, here applied as a pad that adds tension to the environment, transport us directly to the middle of the rave and to this profusion of sweaty half-naked bodies who, induced by various consumptions, on any dark, dirty and damp dancefloor, are just looking for pleasure and a moment of collective catharsis. The climax of the album finally comes with “My Friends” which, as the name suggests, is a hymn to the friendship celebrated in the club. Broken beat, with a “in your face” sampled break, the track is guided by a vocal of which at the start immediately asks us: “Have you ever met those type of people that don’t quite get it?”. We have. But we do understand! Epic and celebratory, “My Friends” uses elements that are already common in Phoebe's production: a staby and distorted bass, repeated and manipulated voice samples, wide variations in rhythmic patterns, outlining a strong musical identity. A sure-fire recipe that promises to hit with a bang on any dance floor. The record ends with a remix by Jensen Interceptor (with whom Bruno has a special bond as they had worked together during his time at Outer Agency), who takes “Afternoon Blaze” and transforms it into a bassy madness, full of percussion and distorted 808s to finish the album in a smash! “Homo Hustle” by Phoebe, a record, and certainly a career, to be taken into account.

New episode of our new mix series Extendes Mix! After Bernardo Matos, we’ve invited talented Lexi (https://www.instagram.com/vanesssasssnares/), also from Coimbra, to jump in!   

We’ve known their work through Radio Universidade de Coimbra (https://www.ruc.pt/autor/lexinarovatkin) where they host a weekly show dedicated to the best of Bass Music called “Ágma” (https://www.instagram.com/agma.ruc/)! Since the first time we’ve listened to it, we were so impressed by their super refined taste, which were so in tune for the type of music we also like to promote! 

Besides their show, they are also the person in charge of all programming section of the radio, and after two editions they are again involved with the curation and planning of RUC Stage (www.instagram.com/palcoruc/) at Queima das Fitas in Coimbra.

The mix they present here brings a collection of trippy and leftfield rhytmhs extracted from the best of Bass that Lexi knowns so well! Tune in and be ready to get your bones shake by the strength of the bass!

Junta is the alias of Bernardo. Coming from Braga and owning a very particular sensibility, he grew up as a DJ with Dark Sessions (https://www.instagram.com/dark.sessions.braga/), and then moved to Amsterdam to fell in love with the underground. In his own words, he likes to” push boundaries, explore the past, uncover the future…” He also likes “trippy techno, slick 2 step, bumpy breaks and sensual steppers”! Extendes Mix 05 - Junta

Here is another episode of our beloved series EXTENDES MIX!

This time we’ve invited 808xez (@sanxez33) to take the wheel. 808xez is a DJ and producer from Cape Verde, living in Coimbra since 2018. He started his music journey in 2019 staring to be noted in different projects such as FIFTY RECORDS, Rádio Universidade de Coimbra, Rádio Baixa and Roda o Centro. 

In 2024 he starts a grime set, in collaboration with Blue House to promote MC culture in Portugal, giving birth to “Seka Peli Grime Station”, where he invites rappers, producers and djs to present their works in a LIVE format. This had a very important role stamping his style around genres like hip-Hop, Grime, Funk, Jungle and UK Garage.

This particular mix, “Fezada”, tries to expresse all the multiculturalism around Portuguese nightlife connecting different dots around suburban electronic music while paying an homage to communities from Cape Verde, Brasil and Angola, which are the ones closer to João Sanchez heart.

A set full of heat and swing ready for those summer parties right around the corner! Enjoy!

Catchy and rhythmic hooks and simple themes, taken from the banality of everyday life, reflect the positivity and lightness with which he faces each day... All this before the switch that happens by the middle of the track, and which quickly transforms it into some acid madness, driven by a “sampled” break and with some rave stabs in the mix.

A light and sunny EP, with a celebratory tone, ready to bring countless embarrassed smiles to the dance floor, from those who have found themselves in these situations a thousand times. Could it be better? It could. But it certainly wouldn't be half as fun!

EXT041 - Bass Stuff, marks the emergence of the most recent alias “Dun Dun”, by the Portuguese producer Diogo Vasconcelos.

Essentially marked by timbral richness and an elaborate programming of percussion sounds, “Bass Stuff” draws some of its inspiration from the worlds of Gqom and Dancehall.

“Bass Uppers” and “Abambo” make up the first part, where the references to Gqom are more evident, ending up being almost like two versions of the same song, where the same elements are articulated in different ways, taking into account the tempo over which they are built upon.

“Can’t Stop” and “Get Them!”, find themselves more inspired by the slow and warm rhythms of Dancehall, without ever leaving aside the sonic palette that structures the entire album, and which is also built around a somehow dark atmosphere, and where voice samples are predominantly used as rhythmic interjections.

The EP closes with a bombastic remix by Will Bowen, aka Pluralist.  Picking up “Abambo”, he removes it from any kind of inhibitions and transforms it into a luminous bomb for the dance floor, completed with a section featuring triplet kicks. Maximum respect for this artist! Just hoping that Dun Dun’s release will be able to do you justice.

We met @l-eese at Listen Festival in Brussels. We were already playing her tunes on @yukumusic for some time, but it was her Live show that really throw us off our seats. We went to giver props after the show and our vibes just clicked. “—Hey, we saw your gig, and it was amazing! We danced our legs of!”, we said. “—Yeah! I saw you!”, she said with a smile. That’s all it takes.

Leese is a Brussels-based producer and DJ who’s been getting buzz for her sound - rooted in Bass Music and pulling percussive influences from breakbeat and tribal.

“Aasma” draws from Drum & Bass, fast Electro and Deconstructed Club. 3 intense tracks of fast broken beats with vocal samples and sprinkles of melody “Aziza” starts with a jackhammer-like rhythm over a half- step beat, before a wailing siren and sprinkles of Baile Funk vocals take over. “Sarma” has a more subdued and hypnotic feel that builds into a rush of trance-y synths. On “Astrakka”, Leese collaborates with @ravlsncld to produce a 145 BPM banger, with heavy rolling kicks and metallic percussion.

“This EP feels a little special. Slowly but surely, I’m finding my way back to more melodic, more “musical” vibes, and that’s the spirit that shaped this project. It also marks my second collaboration with my friend RAVL—a creative connection that keeps evolving and surprising me.”

After a foray into Bass Music under the pseudonym Dun Dun, the captain of Extended Records returns to the breaks and this time with his foot on the throttle! “Paranóico” is an EP composed of two Jungle- influenced tracks, deeply imbued with the spirit of rave. Booming 808s, acid lines, edgy breaks, rave stabs… and vocals from an anonymous Kuduro MC! An explosive mix always around 160BPMs!

“Bateu Bué” insists on a 4/4 beat and a progressive acid line that opens up as the theme develops. Meanwhile, a vocal in Portuguese announces that “Ele voa! [He flies!]” Who is he? You ask yourselves. Answer: “O mais louco do planeta! [The craziest man on the planet!]”

“João Botelho (O Melhor Bailarino do Mundo [The Best Dancer In The World])” is a song whose title pays homage to the most iconic dancer on Portuguese dance floors. Junglish madness, with vocals ripped from an also iconic Youtube video and a distorted 808 driving the adventure. “Ele é louco! [He’s crazy!]” Shouts a voice. “O melhor bailarino do mundo! [The best dancer in the world!] Names another one. Diogo must be crazy for this mad crossbreed! Now, the best dancer in the world, that one, we all already know who he is.

These tracks are joined by two remixes from two emerging talents on the Portuguese scene. Mandacaru signs a remix of “Bateu Bué” transforming it into a kind of Ambient Jungle dream, without any intention of recollecting the OST of Unreal Tournament 2004, produced with a mastery and elegance that is not abundant nowadays.

Carolina Miragaia, on the other hand, time stretches the breaks present in “João Botelho (O Melhor Bailarino do Mundo)”, extracting a jazzy and downtempo version from it… But this is only halfway through the song, since she immediately returns to the original speed of them to show us that she also knows what to do with breaks at 160BPMs. In the background, the vocals remain distant, reaching us filtered between many reverbs and delays.

Two remixes that take us back to vague memories of raves, with a kind of nostalgia for those who have never stepped foot on the dance floors where those took place. Without a doubt, two names to take into account for the future of Portuguese electronic music.
