PREMIERE – STATUES – Radiant Sun (Balearic Ensemble)

'Mr. Computer sees two figureheads of Dutch electronics pay homage to the voice of electro disco, the vocoder. Figi and Luca dell’Orso team up to sing praise of a tool that has crossed genres and styles and give the little metal larynx deserved limelight on their own three track theatre. Rumbling bass is shot through with crisp snaps in the title piece, warbling vocals rising as keys dance in this wonderful collaboration. Production across the 12” is beautifully clean and sharp, allowing the rich analogue sound and robotic lyrics to be fully appreciated. Of course, as happens with the vocoder, those lyrics are just that shade of bittersweet. That brooding quality is used to full effect by Luca dell’Orso in “Fire with Fire.” A bold and daring melody is countered by a tale flecked with sorrow, the brightness and immersion of synths contrasted by the filtered and fractured human voice. Figi flies solo for the finale. “Moonlight (Vocoder Version)” dips words in a thick mechanical syrup, a story of burning love recanted to moonbeam rinses and bending disco bars. A true celebration of man and machine.'

More than just a concert, this vinyl captures a bold musical experiment that lit up the summer of 2024 in the Grand Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
A singular project by the Midsummer Vilnius festival, Roe Deer Orchestra brought together conductor Modestas Pitrėnas, composer Jievaras Jasinskis, and electronic music producer/DJ Liudas Lazauskas beneath the starlit Old Town sky.
This limited-edition record features 10 carefully selected live recordings that reflect the key creative phases of Roe Deers’ musical journey, reimagined with lush orchestral instrumentation. Blending electronic pulse with symphonic textures, the performance revealed new emotional depths and sonic landscapes in Roe Deers’ work. The release also includes a special live collaboration with C.A.R., recorded during this unforgettable night.
The Midsummer Vilnius Festival Orchestra, conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas, included Džeraldas Bidva, Irma Bakševičienė, Kristina Morozova, Artūras Šilalė (I violins); Dalia Suraučiūtė-Gotoveckienė, Vilija Pranskienė, Marija Pranskutė (II violins); Jurgis Juozapaitis, Dovilė Juozapaitienė (violas); Gediminas Derus, Deividas Dumčius (cellos); Arūnas Kučinskas (double bass); Raimonda Virvytienė (flute), Tadas Girčys (oboe), Vytautas Giedraitis (clarinet), Martynas Mažeika (bassoon), Egidijus Stanelis and Vytautas Štrapenskas (French horns), Jonasz Rudolf Dziuba and Povilas Stonkus (trumpets), Marius Balčytis and Paulius Balčytis (trombones); Sigitas Gailius and Vladislavas Šeibakas (percussion); and Giedrė Tereškinė (harp).

Disco Segreta label announces DSM 005 Fireplays: “Allein” / “Hormone”, lost Italian 1981 tracks sung in German.

Fireplays (also spelled “Fireplais” on second single) was the moniker chosen in 1981 by italian producer Franco Pagliaccia for an instant-band project composed by him and a few other musicians. Original  idea was to tune in with the “dance” era, with a band that could sing either in German, Italian or English.
The discography of the band was of only two 45 singles being released. The first ,“Allein” b/w “Hormone”, is their first, and the  only one, sporting both tracks sung in a German southern accent. Their following and last 7”, “Lisa” b/w “Get Away” was sung in english.
Unfortunately, the “Allein” 45, after a short promotional stage, ended up never been officially distributed, while the second release “Lisa” was only included in the promo distribution channels, but ended up never being commercially released, giving a no-go sign to the future of the band, as of today still surrounded by an aura of mystery.

“Allein” b/w “Hormone” was released in mid-1982, and as can be clearly heard, both tracks clearly show the mutation disco as a genre started having at the very beginning of the 80s, in Europe too: a blend of electro, along with new-wavish elements and some classic era-blueprint sonic elements: synth driven melodies, filtered vocodered choruses, pads, swirling cosmic sounds, cowbells, all topped by a powerful male voice that will give genuine connoisseurs an exact era Zeitgeist, along with assured goosebumps.

To celebrate the very first ever 12” – officially licensed and fully remastered - release of Fireplays, and stay on topic, two brutal bonus tracks made by two German DJs-producers are added on this: “Hormone” in the Tom Bolas club-friendly extension, and the “Singlemann Replay” remix of “Allein” made by Tiney.

"Carlo Simula is an italian DJ and digger, producer, label manager and author for the much-revered Overfitting Disco blog, focusing on all things disco, especially weird and wonderful european and worldwide obscurities.

It is fair to say that Carlo is one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to Italian disco records from the 70s and 80s. 
2015 saw him officially reissue a cult 1981 7" record - Andromeda by Andromeda - on a 12" numbered vinyl including his respectful extended edit, as well as a remix by italian pioneer dj Beppe Loda, that marked the first release on his own “Disco Segreta” imprint. 

From there a string of top notch quality releases, such as Gino Pavan, Susana Estrada, those by Miro (Brina - Stranamore and Pat&Pats - Tobago) to the ones lined up in the future, the label has now become a quality guarantee among DJs and collectors of previously undetected, yet very danceable, 70s Italian and European disco music and 80s italo-disco.
