A Berlin legend that needs no further introduction, his knowledge in music is academic, a walking library by all means with credentials few DJs can hold a candle to, such as having been a member of The Ennio Morricone Society (MSV - Musica Sul Velluto) - seriously... @finn_johannsen brings us a two part mix of extensive research in Hip-Hop.

In his words: 
"I do not often play hip hop in clubs, but I have been listening to it since the 80s, and collecting it too. I love all kinds of hip hop, but the particular mid 90s to early 00s sound represented in these two mixes is the one I still listen to the most. I must admit that I adopted this sound quite late, as I previously preferred those records punchy and fast enough to be danced to at clubs playing disco, and then house. When the tempo slowed down in the 90s I was initially confused, well maybe even a bit annoyed. But soon enough I adapted to it, and recognized its very own appeal. Doing these mixes has occupied my mind for a while now, but it really came back to my mind during the lockdown, when I couldn't bear to listen to club music because it was just rubbing in what was missing from my life. Sometimes then I felt moody and frustrated as well, and the vibe of this helped me along. The grit, the wit, the roughness, the immensely varied and creative ways of making beats. I must admit the main purpose of these two mixes was to include all my favourite records, so I can listen to them in a row. Of course there are hip hop DJs who do that way better than me (you will probably notice that there is not a single scratch in the whole 7+ plus hours playtime, for example), and I salute them all. But I wanted to have my own personal soundtrack for whatever purpose I felt should be accompanied by this kind of music. I tried and tested it, and I am happy how well it works in different contexts, but they are all nocturnal. This is not really jiggy, mind. But I hope you like it nonetheless. The booming artwork was provided by the mighty King Kummi aka The Druffalo Graphic Squad."

For Trushmix 200 we got two mixes by the founders of it all!
LA 2000 and DJ Fett Burger in the mix.

LA 2000 recorded a fantastic balearic mix in 2007. It was early on when the balearic genre was rediscovered as a thing. Really good tunes selected in a masterful way!
Just to put it in context, This was in 2007, so balearic wasn’t as familiar like now, only heads started to pick this up again after the heydays in the 80’s, so some really good compilations started to float around, and that became a spark. Also DJ Harvey hadn’t yet made his euro comeback so it was a whole different time back then, it was very marginal. Very nice in many ways. A fantastic mix, that is recorded a bit too loud on a lousy PC.

The second mix, by DJ Fett Burger is a quite eclectic mix recorded in 2009 for a CDR label called Sony Norge, under a different DJ alias. 
This mix matches the previous mix in an odd way, a proper out there balearic interpretation, with some Norwegian cuts that make it local in a global way. So we got a package full of surprises here! You never know what will come next! 

As one mix, these two become quite something, a perfect journey for a 200 mix celebration on Trushmix! It’s a listening party for people who want to take things to a special level. And it really catches the essence of what Trushmix is about!

Dutchman Kennedy (@kennedyams) is a mainstay of Amsterdam's underground. He's worked in record shops, hosted radio shows, thrown his own parties and played the city's best venues as well as further afield at places like About Blank, Tresor and Griessmuehle in Berlin. In the studio, he aims to translate his dreams into music using an array of machines. His grooves dance in the middle ground between soul, techno, house and jazz, with nods to the atmospheres of Detroit and the rhythms of Africa. He serves them up on his own Dream Machine Recordings and most recently collaborated with Amsterdam jazz veteran Han Litz on his latest 12". It brought a fresh dimension to his always cultured music and with this week's mix, he proves that as a DJ he is no less considered in what he does. 

It is a selection of serene hi-tech soul powered by dynamic drums and overlaid with lush chord work. There is plenty of rough-edged analog jack, wonky acid and deep and dusty techno in the first half before a party breaks out with loved-up disco. A slow descent into more dark and trippy sound worlds closes down a mix that has the haziness of a half-remembered dream you wish you could return to.

"It contains only music used in films from 1987-2001: Chungking Express, Lost Highway, Opera, Perfect Blue, Trainspotting, Leon: The Professional, Fallen Angels, Cruel Intentions, Hackers, Johnny Mnemonic, Cool World, Strange Days, Ghost In The Shell, and more. Perhaps there's some commonality there. I wanted to conceptualise this mix in this way as movies have really been resonating with my songwriting at the moment, and I wanted to celebrate particular films that have been extra inspirational for that process.”"

Tornado Wallace aka Lewie Day is a Berlin-based producer, DJ, and musician whose genre-spanning dance sets and studio releases are loosely defined by their generous ambience and cinematic immersiveness. Appropriately, every song here is pulled from a Letterboxd lover’s delight of international films.

You'll find your memory pleasantly jogged as these songs are given new context here. Sensual trip hop lamentations and shoegazing walls of guitar find common ground, and when’s the last time you heard Faye Wong and U2 in the same mix? These songs pull from the well of cultural nostalgia and, yet, the sum of their parts feels half a step ahead of the zeitgeist.
