De Paseo A La Luna is the tropical infused project bringing Nino Augustine and Lester Rey together for their first collaboration on a full EP. The two Latin artists share an affinity and passion for songwriting and, through the thick lens of their diasporas, deliver an enchanting body of work. Their EP is a celebration of life that carries the listener on a fantastic ride through an amalgamation of Afro-fusion, R&B, and Soul. The EP is an illustrative journey to the moon and it showcases the smooth and prodigious flows of Nino Augustine and Lester Rey. Through a community focused filter, the two traverse a network of high-spirited and warm compositions to deliver De Paseo A La Luna.

Nino Augustine is an Afro-Caribbean Latino singer, producer, and songwriter born in the San Miguelito barrio of Panama City, Panama. Having grown roots in Atlanta, he’s worked to craft a multinational, multicultural, and multilingual world sound by drawing inspiration from his rich cultural legacy and diverse surroundings, infusing southern hip-hop into dancehall, reggaeton, and Panamanian plena.

Listed by NPR World Cafe as one of the Top 50 Latin Alternative Artists of 2019 and as one of their top live guest performances of the decade by Vocalo, Lester Rey is a versatile soul-crooner making his mark in an exciting era of Latin music around the world. Born in Chicago of Puerto Rican descent, Lester Rey has crafted a unique sound blending his ethereal voice, Caribbean minimalism, with contemporary sounds such as r&b, hip-hop, and reggaeton.

Wrong Guy, brimming with MoonDoctoR’s symphonious piano stylings, closes CCFX with a pensive interpersonal conversation where a once discordant relationship ends with a cordial and heartfelt understanding even as the path to get there may have been tumultuous. 

Lester Rey is a Chicago based multi instrumentalist, vocalist, producer, stylist and fashion designer. Influenced by funk, soul, salsa and merengue while focused on hip hop and reggaeton. This is Lester Rey’s second release with Discos Peligrosa and this record showcases his vocal prowess and places him one step closer to his contemporaries. 

CCFX evolves organically with MoonDoctoR on production. The Texas based Chicago transplant, and owner of Freshmoon Records intertwines melodies and harmonies uncannily, alludes to a pleasant dissonance, and takes special care to make the drums knock. Their hybrid of movements from footwork to reggaeton, from ballad to hip hop make CCFX a satisfying eavesdrop into the world of these two rising artists.

Dead Stare, the international producer duo of Gergo (Hungary) and DJ Broken Record (Santa Rosa, CA via Mexico), return to Discos Peligrosa with their new Latin dance club single, Suéltame, s spanish phrase that translates to “let me go”. Featuring the captivating vocals of freestyle artist JVDE, the track delivers a powerful dancefloor anthem. Booming 808 kicks and heavy basslines drive the energy, while bold horns and a propelling dembow rhythm push listeners to the chorus. The hypnotic refrain, “tranqui, tranqui, tranqui,” serves as both a hook and a call to release—capturing a moment of freedom in a night of uninhibited movement. Together, Dead Stare and JVDE push the boundaries of latin dance music, creating emotion-driven sound without limits.

The release also features six remixes from an eclectic range of artists. M96, formerly MiloMilo, brings his techno expertise with heavy drums and intricate synths, while trashcleaner, the Latvian producer, blends Jersey Club, Baile Funk, and Tribal influences into a unique and unpredictable remix. JFAICE, from the Netherlands, delivers a bass-heavy, high-energy remix with his signature synths, and Washiwasha, a Global Bass veteran, honors the OG Moombahton sound with a flawless remix. Blame Mate infuses the track with a deep moombahton groove, rolling basslines, and catchy percussion for a dancefloor-ready remix. Finally, the Dead Stare VIP version takes things to another level with massive basslines and unexpected twists, closing out the EP with an explosive take on the track.

This Summer, Texas based entrepreneurs Moondoctor and Orión García debut their first collaboration together on García’s label, Discos Peligrosa. A Chicago transplant, Moondoctor has been producing for and collaborating with a growing number of national and international artists for over seventeen years and, in 2012, started his own label Freshmoon Records. Orión García, who has been DJing and producing for over fourteen years, steps back into the mic booth with his accordion and gaitas (Colombian flutes) to share his influences on another Discos Peligrosa release. With years of mutual respect and appreciation, Moondoctor and Orión García join forces on the Elephant EP and emerge from uncharted territory to deliver a body of work that is culturally relevant and party vibes.

By combining instrumentation from the coastal regions of Colombia with the high-energy syncopation of Chicago footwork, Moondoctor and Orión García have thoughtfully called out the elephant in the room. Unencumbered and electrifying, Elephant EP takes you beyond the boundaries of any common music classification and guides you on a musical journey from Latin America to the United States and back.

Moondoctor chops up the gaitas on Na - frantically painting the backdrop for the mellifluous incantations of Orións vocoded story of apathy and self medication. Elefante starts calm and rises like a morning tide with waves of accordion and gaita weaving in and out of one another, trotting along an electric coast line. San Antonio draws a parallel directly between San Antonio, Texas, and the municipality that bears the same name in Colombia. I am is a note to self, “I’ma think like I am” Orión repeats, so as to ward off any expectations greater than his means. Pelimoon 2020 is a departure from the footwork. Instead, this languid instrumental is a head nod to Moondoctor and Orión’s early hip hop influences. Topped off with a bonus version of San Antonio, the Elephant Ep breaks new ground in the world of relevant club music.

On April 22nd, Discos Peligrosa releases a remix from San Antonio based producer and dj, DJ Shades. DJ Shades is a self taught producer who experiments beyond the vast canopies of genre, exercising his prowess in the studio with a slew of textures and incandescent melodies.

DJ Shades remixes Santa Marta, a track composed by Peligrosa and released on Discos Peligrosa in collaboration with Bombón last August. 

Santa Marta, an ode to Colombia’s Carribean coast, is transformed into a dark and constantly evolving instrumental, spewing brash gaitas over 808s and snare roles.

Dj Chap is an active member of the footwork crew Teklife and hails from denver, colorado. His capacity to conform various musical stylings to his own puts Dj Chap in a unique class of producers who are constantly pushing the boundaries of music in clubs and cultural spaces alike.  This first official solo ep by Dj Chap on Discos Peligrosa, Drum Pakk 1, clarifies the certainty that Dj Chap is a maverick with an ardent and keen ear for eccentric dance music.

Mamis is a four-piece psych surf punk rock band consisting of Naomi Caballero (lead vocals), Nicole Licea (bass), Lisa Hernandez (drums), and Ash Hicks (guitar). Formed in 2015 in Austin, Texas, Mamis have been steadily garnering attention locally and nationally for their consciously thrilling song compositions and raucous high-spirited performances. Their bilingual lyrics (English & Spanish) heavily focus on empowering women and people of color, resisting oppression and opening a fearless dialogue. Mamis deliver their invigorating debut record, Espíritu, on Discos Peligrosa on October 12th, 2018.

Espíritu is influenced by a diverse range of international diasporas. The album explores themes of cultivating gratitude and communing with Earth, as heard in “Agua es Vida,” and “Luna Llena.”  Heavier tracks like “Let Go” and “Frontera” (an ode to the U.S./MX borderlands and bodily autonomy) charge confidently alongside more temperate songs like “Solita”, providing space for a full spectrum of their emotional vulnerabilities. 

The single “Tus Ojos”, with its swirly, tropic-soaked riffs, pulsating drums, and bouncing bassline, takes us on an exuberant interstellar trip. The hopeful and transformative lyrics remind the mamis of the world that their potential is boundless and their power infinite.

BOOMBAH brings together three new pounding tracks of Boombahchero, an ever-expanding genre of shifting syncopations and driving kick drums. Originating as the convergence of Moombahton and 3ball Guarachero in Texas at the beginning of the decade, Boombahchero has bloomed into an underground global sound that combines the primordial nature of dance with the future of electronic music. Featuring DJs/producers Gingee, First Gift, and Dead Stare, BOOMBAH presents three distinctively raucous interpretations of Boombahchero in a language of vibrant electronic tones and grimy heavy dance beats. 

Gingee pulls from her LA upbringing and Filipino heritage for her track Abentura, as she opens this EP with a stalking and forceful baseline that disappears and reappears. Abentura moves on a high jabbing melodic phrase that morphs among synthetic voices reminiscent of mechanical birds and bugs. Underneath, a powering beat of drums, pieces of metal and wood, and white noise, balancing the track somewhere between the wild and sophisticated.

Colored by a collage of indiscernible vocal samples and punctuated with the question “do we have the right to choose,” First Gift builds the apocalyptic drama that swells from his track Junk. Tones akin to car horns and buzzers resonate as he propels the track with a synth melody that puts you in the center of a treacherous modern landscape.

Dead Stare, the international producer duo of Gergo (Hungary) and DJ Broken Record (Santa Rosa, CA), return to Discos Peligrosa to bring what they call “Mexican/Hungarian bass music” to Boombahchero.

Monterrey producer and DJ Nurrydog presents Báilame Cerquita, a collaborative dance track with Chihuahuan folk singer Dromedarios Mágicos, mixing sincere poetics with an electronic beat that’s culturally nostalgic yet undefinable. 

Diego Puerta, who‘s gained wide notoriety in the Mexican indie scene as Dromedarios Mágicos, tells the bittersweet story of a man meeting a woman: how the night sounded, how he saw her from afar, how she raised the temperature of everyone who saw her dance, how what they had was pure fire already lit. Celebrated for his everyman likeability and a certain subdued charisma, Puerta gives life to the voice of the song like a man who’s telling a true personal story, reminding the woman of what they once shared. 

Hugo de León, known for intermingling Latin rhythms to build genre-challenging tracks under the moniker Nurrydog, takes a sad minor progression and drives it with electronic marimba, a crowd of toms, white noise, and vocal tones, creating a landscape of both quiet intimacy and boisterous incitement.
