Elusive and dystopian, Dol Zieger's universe opens the door to an in-between world. On one side, that of a dark future which draws its inspiration from electric sounds. On the other, an ambient nostalgia guided by the love of retro synthesizers. How to find one's own identity when one feels as close to the French touch as to saturated guitars? Dol Zieger took the time to find himself, and above all, to accept himself. A real passionate digger, his musical style is a timeless journey to the borders of indie dance, italo but especially dark disco. Resolutely dancefloor oriented, his sets are always tinged with melodic structures, percussive rhythms, and danceable harmonies where the artist develops an almost obsessive love for singular bass rolls. A multi-faceted musical dna, which offers everyone the promise of an obscure hypnotic dance.

Based in Brittany, Simon Gacquiere has been an activist of the French electronic scene for the past twelve years. 
Known under his stage name F.E.M, he has created many aliases, including the latest one Poem, with which he explores new and tasty indie-dance facets. 
His latest EP 'Fusion' on Family Piknik Music compiles 3 tracks who travel between Indie Dance, Dark Disco, with a unique, vaporous and dreamy atmosphere. Think of blinding textures, bleeps, outstanding sound effects, add a subtil dose of Acid and mix these up into some fat organic grooves, you'll get POEM's full power package. He will be on Family Piknik Festival's main stage this summer, on Sunday 6th of August along with artists like Carl Cox.

Disco Suicide Mix Series 072 - Poem

Never Been Blonde is the DJ name of Kev Williams who began his dj'ing in the early 90's playing parties in Glasgow, Scotland. Here he held events with a host of local talent including Craig Morrison & Graeme Reedie who went on to from Silicone Soul. By 1996 Kev was playing at a few club nights and putting on his own monthly events in an old warehouse that was also used as a practice studio for bands to rehearse.  These warehouse parties were "a bit mental" starting around 10pm & finishing around 6.00am, Like all good things they eventually had to shut as they were attracting the wrong kind of attention. In 1998 he played for the last time at a club in Falkirk. The music scene there was not going the way he had hoped for, "they wanted Robert Miles NOT Robert Hood!!"
After a lengthy hiatus Kev dusted off his decks again when he found different styles of music that he liked emerging towards the end of the twenty teens. Then when lock down happened playing his decks was all he did for while, quickly reinvigorating his passion for music.  
In 2023 his old pals Silicone Soul brought Local Suicide to Glasgow and as he  hadn't seen Craig in ages he thought it would be good to catch up, That night to everyone's surprise Local Suicide introduced him to Counterterraism founder Duncan. Kev was already a follower of Counterterraism and today we are happy to be welcome him to the Guest Mix Series with this excellent offering.

In the midst of the great heat of the city of Culiacán, the electronic sound that emerges at night has been taking diverse and stimulating forms thanks to the work of a group of young musicians. What happens in a place that seeks to escape from the dangers born of violence through creativity and dance? A group of boys seeks to create another possible perspective by feeling the harmony and vibrations of electronic music.

One of them is ROLIVA, a musical project by Ricardo Oliva, who has become a benchmark for electronic music in northern Mexico and the Sinaloan capital and has attracted the attention of pioneers of the genre such as Alexander Robotnick and innovators such as Justin Robertson. His music intervened with remixes by significant artists from the acclaimed Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene such as Damon Jee, Simple Symmetry, Alejandro Molinari, and Cabizbajo.

This is thanks to the multiple recordings that have been published through national and international record labels such as Duro, La Volta Ros, Roam, Night Noise, Dogs & Vultures, Nein, and NATIVO, his own insignia where together with his colleagues they provide a safe space for artists from the region and promote a new perspective of it.

Coming from the tradition of playing in Punk band projects, Roliva found in electronic music an opportunity to continue exploring the world musically speaking. The artist's sound takes many different forms that make his recordings and presentations a great experience, oscillating between nods to Disco, euphoria, dance, acid, and even the most intense and psychedelic sounds.

@vinnyvillbass will release his sublime new album ‘Windows’ this September, with the eight tracks released as a series of singles in the preceding weeks.

Vinny Villbass hails from Oslo and is a sonic guru and master musician with decades of experience in the house scene. He's a vinyl junkie, guitar, and synth player who, next to solo work on his own label Badabing Diskos, has released on Eskimo, Beatservice and Trunkfunk, in addition to curating Pantha Du Prince's 'The Bell Laboratory' project. He is one of the most pivotal figures in his native scene of Oslo, having previously lived - and made his mark - in Berlin and New York.

Vinny doesn't rely on sequencers, so every bit of this new album is played by hand on synths, guitars, drum pads, samplers or percussion. In this case, we see a playful mix of different genres under the broad house umbrella, making this a record for dancing and driving, deep thinking and dreaming. He says of its title, "Windows give us glimpses of future possibilities, framed by memory and imagination. Through the perpetual windows of technology we also see the parallel world of digital content. My music represents the views from my own windows. What do you see through yours?."

'Ski Station' opens up with jangling guitar riffs and pumping nu-disco beats full of life and charm before tender chord work enriches the airwaves. 'Frau Hoffmanns Zimmer' is an increasingly unhinged cosmic trip with pulsing synths and full-blooded house drums, a foundation for squelchy lines, swirling pads and bristling live percussion. 'Lerwick Open' is another fulsome arrangement that brims with vitality as Vinny plays everything from the serene chords to the Balearic guitar riffs and techno-disco drums.

'Go To Stay' ft. Khan is an eight-minute dub, house and disco fusion with retro-future synth motifs shining bright next to vocal dubs and smeared pads that extend to the heavens. There is real funk in the house bones of 'Greenpoint', which dances about effortlessly as an ecosphere of synths and melodies light up the airwaves. 'Orient Espresso' features Vinny's brother Anders on flute and is a warm and inviting world of dynamic synth work, clever effects and dance floor fun. 'Taksi Helsinki' is an introverted trip to the stars on shimmering melodies, and 'Saraholmen' ends on a heavenly note with well-treated vocals panning about the mix and bringing celestial vibes to another irresistible Vinny rhythm.

This exceptional album will be followed by an instrumental live show that reanimates the entire record in full this Autumn, while badabing is also to host a mini festival in Lisbon in September. ‘Windows’, meanwhile, is the latest essential chapter in Vinny's captivating house story.

‘Windows’ arrives in full on September 29th, with singles arriving weekly from the 25th of August to the 15th of September.
