Istanbul based DJ/Producer Günce Aci is around the cities club scene since 2014. In addition to her DJ career she has become one of the most interesting producers of Istanbul. Her sound is mostly characterized by raw live cuts and an extraordinary garage-sound fused into dance music. Ankara based Fat&Bald – a project run by Ortac Genc – joins the EP’s title giver ''Being and Nothingness’’ with silky guitar elements, adding an Sonic Youth-ish rock vibe to the track.

Their second original track ‘'The Absurd’’ is a hypnotic dark approach to rock and dance fusion filled with minimalistic drum grooves, a four-note baseline and hypnotic synth elements. The unpolished rawness of this track definitely brings a fresh breeze to the table.

The EP continues with an outstanding remix by Guatemalan producer Fabio Me Llaman Soltero, who awards listeners with his own temper filled interpretation of the EP’s title giver ''Being and Nothingness’’. The grande finale is delivered by the one and only Theus Mago, who’s playful version of '‘The Absurd’’ evokes nostalgia for late night drifters.

PREMIERE: Günce Aci Feat. Fat&Bald - The Absurd (Theus Mago Remix) [Belly Dance Services]

Lithuania’s Ponty Mython brings his signature style of dubbed out cosmic breaks to Not An Animal Records.

The title track Onimano X991 sparkles as it leads the way with a heavy four to the floor bass kick laced with an eerie interstellar melody and signature broken beat drum pattern. Deliciously squelchy interludes and breakdowns are the cherry on the space cake here. Not An Animal are known for bringing in the heavies, this time music round, musical rearrangement aficionado DJ Fett Burger gives ‘Onimano X991’ an atmospheric massage. Launching with an eerie melody recognisable from the original mix but minus the squelch. Fett Burger transcends the track from a 2am floor killer to a 6am floor chiller via a cleverly reprogrammed drum pattern, drawing the stress right out of your deltoids with his beautifully formed fingers like only he does.

‘Walkie Talkie’ is a late night squelch-a-thon from the get go, oozing NAA style with its vocoder arps and space didgeridoos all over its four to the floor kick. Closing out the EP ‘We Expect A Soft Landing’ nails its orbital re-entry calculations, touching down squarely on the realms of ambient dub techno. A tasteful composition reminiscent of something from The Higher Intelligence Agency’s ‘Colourform’. This track leaves us with a perfectly paced build that culminates in chesty bass swells and loads of bleepy sounding arps.

Polish multi-instrumentalist and prolific producer Charlie lands on Wrong Era with her earth-shattering EP 'Spacewoman'. As a revered live act and spearhead within the Italo-Proto scene, Charlie’s record is a testament to her unique and impactful sound design, which is on full display in her thunderous progressions. The rolling instrumental of ‘Spacewoman’ bursts open the release, setting an innovative tone and channelling a unique approach to synthesis and powerful percussion. 

In the synth-wave proto-anthem ‘Let go’ we hear Charlie’s striking, arcane vocals. Charlie’s vocals take the listener through a mantra to centre and elevate. Chicago house and Italo sensibilities drive the bassline forward with refreshing tonal changes. 

‘Dark Waver’ spills into the darker realms of Italo Disco. Twinkling, crushed melodics rise into an ominous, driving bassline, which sits beautifully under slick percussion and creamy, augmented synths. A grounding syncopated sub anchors the tantalizing high-energy arps. Charlie’s unique gift for crafting evolving, intoxicating melodies is masterfully shown throughout the record. 

The intriguing gloom of ‘In The Night’ envelops the EP, leaving us with a sense of mystery and anticipation. Swathes of luscious pads and stabs of a metallic proto-bassline guide us through this enigmatic atmosphere. Melodies evolve and unfold, adding to this enticing soundscape. The Berlin-born artist integrates her infectious rhythmic flair into another standout release, capturing the consistently mind-opening energy of her live sets and hooking us in with potent synth lines and vocals.
