SLIMELIGHT #006 - RICARDO CASTRO

Hailing from the UK and now residing in Berlin Radondo has built a versatile sound within the Italian Dance Wave movement. His progressive DJ sets have seen him quickly become a prevalent artist within the German capital, playing regular slots at venues such as Renate, Sisyphos and becoming a resident at the revered Slow Motion Records parties. With a steady run of releases on labels such as Wrong Era, Loose Fit Records, Ritmo Fatale and Fucanglong Files, he merges arcane soundscapes with ethereal analogue synth lines.

 As a producer and remixer, he has gained recognition for his captivating consistency and support from Italo’s greats. Tying together his Italo, EBM, and New Beat influences, Radondo creates a tantalising atmosphere filled with tangible nostalgia through forward-thinking production and energetic selections that have lit up dance floors from Vilnius to New York.

Graftak, being one of the founders of Club Solitaire & resident of Antwerp’s Drag me to Hell collective, has been a valued part of Belgium’s darker nightlife for many years.
His style embodies Dark Disco & EBM over Techno to Minimal Synth. Blending gloomy allure and hypnotic rhythms with a melancholic edge. All while never losing its sleazy undertone.

K. Torpela is a DJ hailing from southeast Finland. In his sets he mainly navigates in the soundscapes of Italo Disco, Indie Dance, Dark Disco, New Beat, EBM; combining both modern productions and tracks of the past. Having played genres like Techno, Hardcore and Drum & Bass in the past, rhythm and percussion have always been close to his heart. The mood in his sets can often be described as mysterious, gloomy and atmospheric; without compromising grooviness.

With this mix I went with a heavy emphasis on New Beat sound, with some flavour of things like EBM, Acid and Techno. The goal was to create an exciting journey full of twists, moments of calmness, wonder and full-on banging.

Herr.Ektor is a multidisciplinary artist (music, writing, photography...) and LGBTQIA+ activist who lives and works in Berlin. Shaped by poetry and D.I.Y culture, his interest in music, and more specifically electronic and alternative scenes, led him to become a DJ and co-organise the infamous queer parties Electrofuckdiscosuicideparty (Collectif Blogvipère 2008-2015). His sets are musical journeys through several musical genres, influenced by the madness and dark wave universe of the 80s, 90s techno, the electroclash scene, and Dark Disco.

SHEA Radio #099: Pyrame

Physicist turned music and record producer, Berlin-based Pyrame’s emergence into the electronic music scene is a story of wanderlust, dream catching and cosmic energy. A poet at heart, he takes the opportunity to create raw emotion through both his melodies and lyrics, when if you listen closely, are inspired by his endless adventures of the world around him.

Combining elements of synth-pop, post-punk and progressive electro, his DJ affair of building both his sound and his label contains a touch of surrealism, heritage and fantasy, as his inspiration is pulled from the twists and turns of Greek Mythology. His record label, appropriately named Thisbe Recordings, comes from the myth of “Pyramus and Thisbe” which are most well known as the couple of ill-fated lovers by the ancient poet Ovid.

Over the years, Pyrame has produced several mixes - "The Pace of Everything that Lives", "Electronica Melancholia", "Senses High" - and has been remixed by influential producers such as Arnaud Rebotini, Inigo Vontier, Acid Washed, Theus Mago, Local Suicide, Skelesys, La Mverte, Semodi and many more. More recently, Pyrame immersed himself into techno by exploring sub-genres such as tribal slow techno with Radial Gaze with their collab EP "Voodooridoo" and leftfield deep techno with Andrey Sirotkin and their collab EP "Untouchable".

Expect more from Pyrame in 2025, as the year unfolds and several busting releases are already  lined up both on his label´s front as well as with his own music. This, keeping faithful to his vision of staying indie and in the underground.
