Jerry Bouthier’s label Continental records welcomes Mexico’s Bluehost to its continuously expanding international roster. Building a body of releases where love for songs with character and dancefloor principles cohabit on dj-friendly EPs crafted by authentic artists, the colorful, pop-tinged digital imprint springs back into action with ‘We Need You’ by Bluehost, a trio hailing from Mexico City which aims at combining indie moods and club vibes in one personal inspired Latin spell.

When DJ Alex González was introduced to Azzim Susano who was singing in a new-wave band at the time, the two 24 year olds into synth-pop and European sounds hit it off immediately and decided to form Bluehost. Cruz Antonio on drums soon completed the line-up. The band's name stems from its wish to combine the melancholy of Blue Monday, the third Monday of January believed to be the most depressing day of the year (almost certainly also a nod at New Order's electrodisco classic), to their love of hosting parties and making people dance.

With a funky rhythm guitar that would make Nile proud, quirky synths a-gogo, electro beats to almost breakdance to and a male vocal that’s as infectious as heartfelt to top the lot, ‘We Need You’ strikes a chord. These boys sure cultivate a sentiment of their own, injecting warm, impassioned, Hispanic touch and cool dance moves to their beloved indie-pop.

In the remix seat Pallace, the Frenchie who’s co-produced Zimmer's lately, opts for a driving house makeover, stripping down vocals and unleashing some proper feelgood Hammond chords and one of the catchiest SH101 basslines you’ll hear this summer. Next Sweden's Copycat, the analog lord renowned for revamping the 80s with style and skilled production techniques, turns out a piano-led balearic anthem that’ll have you throw your hands in the air before you know it. To conclude the EP, Bluehost provide their own dub remix which takes ‘We Need You’ one step closer to Manchester’s Haçienda and its italo-house heaven.

‘Shapes On Shapes’ is the much anticipated debut album from LA based duo Wild & Free. Released this November on Portugal’s Discotexas, ‘Shapes On Shapes’ sees Drew Kramer and George Cochrane deliver on the promise of their early releases with 11 tracks of languorous poolside disco, tropical pop and Balearic house.
 
Both multi-instrumentalists, singers and producers in their own right, the pair came together in 2015 and have spent the past 2 years crafting a series of acclaimed EPs and remixes (for the likes of Panama, Gigamesh, Joe Goddard and Ben Browning of Cut/Copy) that saw them tipped by the likes of Spin, XLR8R, Indie Shuffle and many more and take their live show on the road playing alongside the likes of Brooklyn’s Body Language.

From the album’s opener, and title track, an intoxicating haze of ambient synths, dreamlike vocal samples and reverb drenched guitar licks, its clear Drew and George have stretched themselves to fully embrace the possibilities of the album format. It's also obvious that the band have named themselves well, as throughout the record there’s a looseness and sense of spontaneity that few studio based acts can pull off. 

Whether it’s the sun kissed pop of ‘River of Nilé’ and ‘Moment’, the exotic heady disco of ‘Tropique’ and ‘Ferns and Stuff’ or the dub inflected ‘Hiding Behind the Sun’, ‘Shapes On Shapes’ is one of the most joyous, life affirming albums you’ll hear this year.

We are excited to premiere "Hold On", the first single from Bahla's upcoming EP 'Life Long' due to be released later this year.

Spear-headed by Venezuelan pianist Joseph Costi and British guitarist Tal Janes, Bahla broke new ground in 2017 with their debut album “Imprints”, a unique mix of cinematic jazz and Jewish traditions.

‘Imprints’ had tradition and heritage at its heart and was a celebration of a shared upbringing, through beautiful jazz-flavoured compositions.

In this new EP, Bahla introduce us to a very personal journey. Whilst affirming their love for music beyond jazz, they deliver music that travels from electronica to alternative pop, alt jazz and ambient, all of it treated through a reflective lens. Tal and Joseph combine songwriting ability, lyricism and obvious musical skills with an adventurous approach to harmony and production, taking their music to completely new territories. “We’re making the music we would love to hear, whilst retaining elements of the original ‘Bahla’ sound and moving forward with it” says Joseph.

“Hold On” is about learning how to love yourself and reach that place where you find physical and emotional balance. “The song is a throwback to infancy when we can’t say what we need or want, but there’s unconditional love” says Tal who wrote most of the lyrics for Bahla’s upcoming EP. 

Bahla’s upcoming EP, their most accomplished work to date, will continue their introspective journey and music exploration, in what promises to be a key 2020 release.
