Justin Faust is someone very much at the forefront of the nu-disco scene and a producer who has topped Beatport charts as well as picking up Radio 1 play from the likes of Annie Mac. Here he goes all out disco-party with his original, whilst label boss Xinobi and Mercury tackle the remixes.

In original form ‘Space Rhumba’ is a no holds barred and riotous disco track with slapping kick drums, sci-fi synths that spray and spurt about as pixelated melodies dazzle and cries of ‘woo’ and ‘yeah’ fire up the arrangement even more. It’s brightly coloured and maximalist but manages to retain plenty of musicality and fun-time vibes.

Label boss Xinobi – who has also released on labels like Kris Menace’s Work It Baby – strips the track back somewhat before rebuilding with his own hugely funky guitar riffs and spraying, heat damaged synth lines. Piano tinkles and plenty of busy chord stabs make it a high-energy, high-impact affair before the final remix comes from Switzerland’s Mercury. This duo have been heavily supported by Busy P and have released originals on top label Gomma, but here go for something much harder than both originals and something that is in fact a stylistic deviation from their own normally house focussed material. Their fantastically reduced remix features driving kick drums and insistent synth stabs and is the sort of rolling techno banger that needs to be played in a cosy back room. It’s economical but efficient, generates plenty of feeling from its few elements and really hits the spot from start to end..
