One of Sydney’s most dynamic and sought after acts, The Goods return today with single “Glow” out on Personal Best Records. “Glow” is lifted from their forthcoming EP Make Your Move, and comes with exciting news of signing to renowned booking agency, Niche Productions.
 
Premiering via Complex UK, "Glow" transfixes the listener right from the onset, setting an enthralling pace. A deep, hypnotic groove floods the airwaves, consuming the listener in a blend of funk, RnB and soul, with their own signature stamp of spacey electronica. While the mood softens momentarily for a psych-infused bridge, it quickly picks up to an all-familiar beat – a much-welcomed return for the talented trio.
 
“Glow” is the band's first single after signing with Niche Productions, the prestigious booking agency behind acts like Winston Surfshirt, REMI, Oscar Key Sung, Hiatus Kaiyote and Slum Sociable. Lifted from their forthcoming EP Make Your Move, set for release in October this year, “Glow” follows their recently released single of which the EP gets its name. Premiering on triple j’s Good Nights, ”Make Your Move” saw support on both triple j and FBi Radio and was endorsed by RUSSH, Complex AU and Pilerats, as well as multiple Spotify playlists. “Make Your Move” also welcomed vocalist Black Tree, cementing the singer as the official third member of The Goods.
 
Consisting of Badmandela, Rosario and Black Tree, The Goods burst onto the scene in 2016 with the release of their self-titled EP. Tracks like “Strong Man” Ft. Lo Five and “Only One” ft. unKLe H were internationally recognised by tastemaker outlet Indie Shuffle and key local outlets such as MTV, VICE and Happy, with comparison to both Outkast and Gorillaz. On the live front, The Goods have shared stages with the likes of Oddisee, Onra, Winston Surfshirt and made consecutive guest appearances at the award-winning Vivid Live Festival. Meanwhile, Black Tree has performed as backing vocalist for Ngaiire at Listen Out festival, Wave Rock, Beyond The Valley as well as alongside Adele.

Hypersex is a collective love letter to the club culture. We believe we can dance our way to a better world. A world with room for everyone, regardless of their origin, political views, race, religion, gender, and sexuality.
Much like hypertext is a system designed to multiply connections between ideas, “Hypersex” was designed to multiply connections between people. It’s also a metaphor for the dancefloor: a place where, throughout history, we came together and created something new.
When I started working on it in 2016, an unprecedented refugee crisis was happening and Europe was turning its back on it. In the US, a massacre had just taken place in a gay nightclub in Orlando and the country was getting ready to elect Donald Trump. I had to respond. So I reached out to like-minded artists I admired, and set out to create my most collaborative project yet.
Hypersex is truly a collaborative effort: it features songs with Fritz Helder, Best Youth, Iwona of Rebeka, Georgia Anne Muldrow, DA CHICK, Marta Ren, Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro, Shermar Davis and Tee Flowers. The artwork is by Bráulio Amado, who I have been working with in all my albums, and whom I involved to the point of naming songs according to his illustration ideas, and not just the usual opposite. Videos were made by filmmakers Bruno Ferreira, Nuno Xico, João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Paco Cruz and more to come, and also a fanzine with a dozen guest illustrators which we’ll unveil very soon.
The world we live in is getting sadder and grey. We don’t expect to change it with a record, but we might as well add some color to it.

Months ago this singer from North Carolina got in touch, wanting to work with me. I sent him an instrumental. He had co-written a lot of hits, but 'Carnival' would become the very first track he'd actually sing on. I immediately fell in love with Shermar 's voice.

Today, we're highlighting a track that starts small & ends big. Like much of the dance music family, Flamingo World Champion reflects the patently millennial outlook of life as a series of increasingly fulfilling accomplishments, with little to no acknowledgement of struggle or strife. We hear the disorientation of the child from the start, and the inner confidence and strength of the pre-teen with the first bass line.

As the song builds, we begin to lose carefree (but somewhat anxious) adolescent and move into a deeper feeling of existence, that of young adulthood. It is here the track confronts itself, the chord progression changes, and it finds its roots in a final run towards death. This finality of life is no sad decline, no failing of momentum; it is but a simple turn inward, as the brash assurance of adulthood yields to the gentle, almost happy acceptance that all things must end at some point. Is this a foolish perspective? How am I to know, at age 25, what death looks like in the mirror?

Fortunately for the millennial, this track will likely not end; SoundCloud's "Related Tracks", Spotify's "Radio", and a DJ's seamless transition will ensure that the night will go on as long as you can endure.

Who Is Donny Flamingo?

Capyac's 2019 "Collage" series, including the second release "Someone Real", was a way for the early 21st century band to express themselves through a now-forgotten media — tiny bits of books and magazines (a short-form print media that went obsolete during the 2094 Tree Plague) cut up and arranged to form new imagery. For Capyac, this mirrored the process of making music on a computer, where tiny bits of sound recorded from disparate sources were combined and rearranged many times until something striking revealed itself. Like the Dadaists and hip-hop producers before them, art was often more about discovery than creation.
