Rui Maia aka Mirror People has been one of the hottest producers to come out of Portugal in recent years with a string of stunning releases on highly respected labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bear Funk, Hands of Time and of course eclectic disco merchants Discotexas. In 2013 his single “Kaleidoscope” and remixes were played literally by everybody, specially the Psychemagik rework that stayed on Beatport’s charts for a few months and picked by Pete Tong (BBC Radio 1) for his upcoming compilation.

For his new single Mirror People brings us a soulful pop ballad in the shape of “Come Over”, sang by Iwona Swakek (of polish duo Rebeka). Its fresh yet goes back in time for inspiration. Hypersex is a collective love letter to the club culture. We believe we can dance our way to a better world. A world with room for everyone, regardless of their origin, political views, race, religion, gender, and sexuality.
Much like hypertext is a system designed to multiply connections between ideas, “Hypersex” was designed to multiply connections between people. It’s also a metaphor for the dancefloor: a place where, throughout history, we came together and created something new.
When I started working on it in 2016, an unprecedented refugee crisis was happening and Europe was turning its back on it. In the US, a massacre had just taken place in a gay nightclub in Orlando and the country was getting ready to elect Donald Trump. I had to respond. So I reached out to like-minded artists I admired, and set out to create my most collaborative project yet.
Hypersex is truly a collaborative effort: it features songs with Fritz Helder, Best Youth, Iwona of Rebeka, Georgia Anne Muldrow, DA CHICK, Marta Ren, Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro, Shermar Davis and Tee Flowers. The artwork is by Bráulio Amado, who I have been working with in all my albums, and whom I involved to the point of naming songs according to his illustration ideas, and not just the usual opposite. Videos were made by filmmakers Bruno Ferreira, Nuno Xico, João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Paco Cruz and more to come, and also a fanzine with a dozen guest illustrators which we’ll unveil very soon.
The world we live in is getting sadder and grey. We don’t expect to change it with a record, but we might as well add some color to it.

Luis Clara Gomes, the man behind Moullinex, is paving the road towards a new album this year, and if “Open House” is any indication, get ready for a smooth ride into funk nirvana.

“Open House” is an aptly named dancefloor gem, and there is no escaping its infectious groove. The piano hugs you like a long lost friend, and when those synth stabs kick in, it’s already too late: you’re under. This is the soundtrack for an imaginary club night ran by George Clinton and Colonel Abrams in Rio de Janeiro in 1981.

And who’s that? Tee Flowers, a singer/performer whose identity has been shrouded in mystery, has stepped into light for a wake up call: the best way to counter a rising divide is to get together. Dancing is one of the last standing manifestations of collective love, so we should join forces and celebrate difference. Call it “militant escapism”.

After his successful second album, Revelación, Bufi and Discotexas deliver us their first volume of remixes, loaded with energy, thanks to a well chosen team of star remixers. The package starts with a steady take on “Apocalipstick” by Valencian producer AFFKT, head of Sincopat Recordings, that takes us into a synth psychedelia journey with an epic middle break, just before the climax. Right after that the beat goes solemn, with a thoughtful organ driven mix by Mexican duo Zombies In Miami, filled with laser like percussions, spacey synths and sensually treated vocals, transforming “New Ground” into a oracular esoteric gem. Another Mexican, Max Jones, keeps the groove reflective, exploring the nostalgia of the original “Interlude” synths, chopping the acid lead and adding a “conservative” afro minimal beat. The batch ends with a solid mix by french producer Damon Jee, delivering a severely rigorous steady bassline alternated with confident and faithful uplifting synths; one of the highlights of the original track, “Peaks”.

Xinobi's new album is pretty much an album rooted in the NOW. Its emo electronic music you can dance to. You can say Atmospheric House with Spoken Word, dreamy electronic with a Pop feel, ethereal Techno, dark chill Leftfield fulfilled with uncommon lyrics on the dance music world. 
“On The Quiet” is a dance floor-focused story about the transition of many electronic musicians from punk rock and skateboarding into house music and about how dance-music can be a field for social conscious awareness. 
It’s common knowledge that the second album from an artist is his most difficult task. “On The Quiet” proves to be an exception to this idea. After countless successful singles and remixes Xinobi found his own style on his debut album “1975”, released in 2014, and improved that style on this set of songs that now stands a new landmark on his career.
“On The Quiet” is a reflex of the path that many contemporary electronic musicians have crossed, starting on punk and developing into diversity while keeping some of the ethics of punk school. One could say this an D.I.Y. record. Xinobi played and self-produced the whole album and even released on Discotexas (a label he co-owns with Moullinex). Friends were invited to sing on some tracks and there’s Ian MacKaye’s (the man behind such important bands as Minor Threat, Fugazi or the Dischord label) voice about skateboarding manners and urban alternative interpretations. The record also features an artwork by Braulio Amado with extensive biographical writings, all the lyrics, interviews with Igor Cavalera (former member of Sepultura and Mixhell) and David Andersson of Punks Jump Up beautifully crafted with fanzine-styled aesthetics.

I realized everything I've done recently is a response to a world where kindness among fellow human beings has been diminishing at an alarming pace. From Trump to Brexit over to Le Pen, the harmoniously globalized planet we were promised is nowhere to be found. Instead, love and kindness are often frowned upon, as a sometimes cheesy sentiment. I really believe that through dancing, the ultimate expression of love and happiness, we're able to combat this overwhelmingly larger climate of fear, distrust and intolerance. Hemi Behmoaras is not a newbie. He’s been around for some time operating from Istanbul, Turkey, both as a dj, producer, promoter or film maker.

From Paradisko (his project with local DJ/producer Hakan Özkan) to Pineapple Pop (his solo outfit) was a small step, but after a couple of singles under his belt it was time to start using his own name: Hemi.

The release kicks off with the original version of ‘Kaleidoscope’ a bubbling and funk fuelled disco outing that pulls together dramatic keys, a classic disco B-line and a myriad of heart warming melodic elements to create a sumptuous production that is genuinely timeless, quality stuff. The original version is followed by a remix from label boss Xinobi who turns in a superb reworking flush with bright piano stabs and stirring brass parts for an alternative that retains the original character whilst stamping it’s own mark on things.

Next up we have a brand new version of ‘Kaleidoscope’ from highly respected UK production duo Psychemagik. Tom & Danny, the faces behind the name, have been burning bright for some time with a string of outstanding single, remixes and exclusive edits helping them ascend to exhalted heights in recent months. Here they take the original track deliver a delightfully uplifting yet understated melodic mix that plays on arpeggiated synth lines, rich warm bass and shuffling percussion, simply sublime. The EP is closed with Mirror People’s ‘Machines’, a techy and taut production that reflects its title.
