Bleep Mix 179 comes from the great Roman Flügel. A household name to many, Roman has been active since the early 1990s under a number of aliases (his tracks as Roman IV have been seemingly omnipresent in tastemaker DJ sets for the last decade). This mix is an accurate reflection of Flügel's output - delicately psychedelic, thoughtfully engineered and refreshingly unpredictable. Setting out with some staunch UK techno from Blawan & Ste Roberts, it glides into willowy house, throwback electro and breaks from the likes of Eris Drew & Legowelt, ending with an extended play of the late, great Andrew Weatherall’s Dexys edit.

"I recorded it on one of the last hot and sunny Sundays on a Urei 1620LE, Bozure 201, Technics, borrowed CDJs, a filter and a TR8. Now that it's definitely sweater weather here in Neukölln, maybe some of that warm atmosphere comes off wherever people listen to it. This one's got a lot of personal favorites, unreleased treats, drum machine jamming, weirdo new and old things, etc. My last mixes have been live radio shows, which are fun and loose but more snapshots of what I'm playing at the time. This time around I tried to compose a mix while keeping its entirety in mind."

Solid Steel Radio Show 23/10/2015 Hour 1 - Avalon Emerson

Our 41st podcast comes from techno producer Voiski, who is a close associate of experimental label Silicate Musique, is part of Field Records duo Kartei and is also a regular on LIES and WT Records. His techno sound veers from off kilter and odd to more dance floor focussed, and is never short on intrigue. Characterised by infinitely repetitive loops and acerbic drums, his often analog tracks look to the future for their inspiration and always manage to be cerebral yet hypnotic. 

The mix he has served up for us is mostly made of old personal classics and or new tracks made by friends. “Intimate, glimmery and a bit strong,” says Voiski, the mix is a perfect one for this time of year and has some “heartwarming 90s trance to smile at with some solid techno to dance to.” He’s not wrong there, because this is an absorbing selection that might well surprise you with some of the more fun and sunny inclusions early on, but as things move on that deep, heady, hypnotic Voiski sound soon wins out with smooth coherent transitions that sound just like an extended track by the man himself.

Six years ago, Russian-born Marina Rubinstein was a raver living in Tel Aviv with dreams of becoming a DJ. After saving up enough money, she bought a one-way ticket to Berlin, where she quickly worked her way up from playing small rooms to 20 people to playing the world's biggest techno club, Berghain.

Dr. Rubinstein's story is a familiar one, but her love of '90s acid techno and life-affirming rave tunes helped the fledgling DJ to stand out in a city then dominated by darker, more hypnotic sounds. Today, she's a globally respected selector with a joyous, life-affirming style.

This week's FACT mix is a snapshot of Dr. Rubinstein's dreamier side, packed with hazy breakbeat, electro and acid; it rarely climbs above 115BPM, with tracks from Lake Haze, Holger Flinsch and Legowelt amongst the tracks that will have spotters taking notes. It's one for the 7am crew.

Phormix was created in 2013 through the ideals of expressionism and the vision of a platform that would communicate an something unsuspelling those years promoting aspects of electronic music in helping music going forward, against the dominant oppressive musical constraints and also society's torture  was something that country was needed. 

Seventh À la carte menu offers a taste of the intense and vibrant Athenian underground scene, through @Phormix, which is not only a sick casette label, but also a club night and a very interesting SC platform always premiering new talents in the scene. For this special occasion I was joined at the red studio by none there than the super talented Pasiphae, Greek DJ and producer based in The Hague, who helped me going through the impressive music catalogue of Phormix.
