Is it a Meme, is it Music? We don’t know, but we do know it is the first of a series of colored 7“ records revolving around the diskomutations motif.

The A- Side „Invincible“ is a wild ride of colorful sample cut-ups and a hectic drum workout emerging from a parallel universe where Chicago lies on a tropical island inhabited by some kind of turtly archosaurian reptile and it’s topped off with an epic Extratone finale.

The B Side „Impeccable“, featured prominently by the vocalist Paula White, is a classic four to the floor Jabber- Affair of rave stabs and weighty basswiggles capable of causing a serious assquake. DJ Paprika is vegetarian though, so we did send the tunes to Zanshin to get that extra beef!

The fifth release on disko404 Records is by @IZC, an artist who has been active for almost two decades in the local scene of Vienna, Austria.

In 2008, he finally started @dubsquare Records together with media artist Boris Kopeinig. The releases of the label are featured in some of the most renowned record shops, like Hardwax in Berlin or Honest Jons in London for example, and the music is receiving regular support by such diverse artists as Scratcha DVA (Hyperdub, Rinse FM, London) or Henning Baer (Grounded Theory, Berlin).

For his current EP on disko404 entitled "Zig-Zag", IZC brings together the sounds of dark UK Funky/Grime and Detroit House. A stripped-down hardware setup in combination with a restriction to a basic stereo-track recording technique results in four raw and direct dance tracks with an unmatched live-feeling to them. 

While the opening tune, "Zig-Zag", starts out as a straight 4/4 beat, its rhythm is soon twisted by an interplay of syncopated sublow toms and staccato hi-hats. On the flip side, "Strings 2129" and "Quizzical" are both exploring the realms of stripped down Grime, keeping things tight and simple with a set of strings and 808. The "untitled" bonus track (digital-only) completes the EP by expanding a dark and gloomy atmosphere during the first couple of minutes, before - all of a sudden - a massive break rushes in, releasing the built up pressure.

In 2014, he released his well-received 2x12” debut album entitled "vlv" on Antime Records, Berlin, followed by a strictly limited split-cassette via Viennese collective Bebop Rodeo. Additionally, he performed extensively in and around Austria, including festivals like Popfest (Vienna) or Transart Festival (Bolzano) and contributed a track entitled "Ice Pickin'" to the Antime V03 label sampler.
For his current EP on disko404, entitled "meta-finite", fontarrian continues his eclectic dabbling into a variety of directions and brings together four distinctive productions that overall exude an immanent warmth, invite contemplation and trigger subdued emotions: "to desire the things that will destroy you in the end" is a weird and blissed-out ambient journey clocking in at over 16 minutes, garnered with piano touches and the exhausted breathing of a runner never crossing the finish line. "cc's glory (knocking down my chamber door)" is a narcotic and (s)low-slung spoken word excursion that builds on Poe and Reed's writings. "moon's space, an aged dream" lifts one onto the shores at dusk and may best be described as a dark and atmospheric jam that hints at Detroit melancholia. Rounded off, the EP also offers a digital-only track, "give her another (ruff sugar, babe)”, a sample-heavy, ADD-induced and euphoric late summer jam.

Other Worlds is Florian Pirker from Graz who initially grabbed our attention as one half of long-standing DJ duo doze when they dropped their mix Why do you have to point out how stupid everyone is all the time? back in 2012. We immediately put it out as #25 of our ongoing podcast series. Fast forward to 2016 and we're happy to announce that our ninth release on disko404 Records is Other Worlds' debut EP entitled Two Minute Sound Sculptures.

The EP consists of seven distinctively psychedelic vignettes. Each of them unfold layer upon layer like snapshots of particular moments in the form of unmistakable melodies gathered throughout the course of a most memorable week in the early summer in 2015. Florian took it upon himself to come up with a jam each day on a pocket piano and his heavily fx-ed guitar. Hints of percussive elements might be heard here and there. Steeped in the aura of time's passing, so to say, as felt through his mind. Here reverb-drenched snatches of beeping and broken arpeggios meet scatters of hi-hats jazzily caressed, or splashes of synth-washes collide with subtle though ever-embracing warm drones; where a field recording of rain evolves with humility into feedbacks that seem to hark forth from the ether, portraying what elation must feel like. Intuitive and highly evocative notes in one's diary open to multiple interpretations. The videos Florian produced carve out a similar terrain: each consists of small fragments from these seven particular days edited into a swirl of unpretentious images that will help you grasp the subtlety of textures – both aural and visual. 

disko404 is a long-established music and promotion collective based in Graz, Austria, pioneering dance music from UK Funky/House to Jungle/Footwork to Leftfield Experimentalism in the region and beyond. Sun People / Franjazzco - Split EP - disko404 Records

disko404 are launching their very own label with a split EP by Sun People and Franjazzco. While the latter is one of the most passionate players in Vienna's underground music scene, Sun People aka Simon/off has already stirred international attention with releases on renowned labels such as Immerse Records or Phuture Shock Musik.

For this release Franjazzco combined his enthusiasm for Jazz, Soul and Disco with a weighty Footwork/Juke kit, resulting in three deadly 160bpm anthems. 
On the flipside Sun People deployed a more UK-influenced style with references to 90s Jungle and UK Garage. Imagine Tek9 meets Duncan Powell meets DJ Spinn.

The EP is already receiving support by DJ Rashad, Distal, Chrissy Murderbot, DJ Clent, Rp Boo, Soulphiction and others.

"Take It Back" puts together nicely cut-up vocals, a classy bassline and pure 4x4 pressure. The tune brings back sweet memories of legendary UKG old-school grooves from the early 2000s. On the flip-side, "Just To" won't stop firing toms, hats and rim-shots into the air, leaving just enough space for a few carefully interspersed samples, essentially jazz and voice. 
For his remix, Bass Clef picks up the vocal as well as a tiny bit of that jazz, before he starts twisting it up in a dirty beat full of verve and grime.
