Otherworldly 

The new album contains 14 never before released tracks. The Pyramids’ signature sound is still percussion driven, no surprise with Nash and Speller being two of the most masterful percussionists on the planet. Another signature style of The Pyramids is the “two bass” concept combining Kash Killion’s acoustic bass with electric bass by Thomas “Kimathi Asante” Williams. Ancient funk. Idris Ackamoor plays his alto sax in an absolutely astonishing way, sometimes simultaneously performing tap dance to create percussive rhythms, “suggesting a post-be-bop Prince” as the NY Times called him.

The Pyramids trip out into unexplored territory of spontaneous improvisation, sometimes trance like off to an outer inner space journey. They play to make music fire! “Otherworldly reminds of a giant insect colony on another planet doing a collective mating dance.”

The Pyramids were world music even before the term was coined back in the early 70’s. They use a battery of ethnic instruments you’ll probably never heard of like mbira, calypso boxes, Russian zither, West African bolong, Egyptian sensemia harp, pygmy whistle,.. But they don’t play them trying to duplicate the authentic African music but use them in a way that the music does sound almost otherworldly: “We want to play music that is original and full of imagination; completely boundless.”

Founded 40 years ago in 1972 “Otherworldly” (DB159) released on Disko B was the first Pyramids’ album in over 35 years. They released three albums before splitting up in 1977 – albums that made them one of the most mysterious and legendary of all the spiritual cosmic jazz collectives of the early 70s, like the “Art Ensemble of Chicago” and the cosmic jazz combo “Sun Ra”.

Disko B re-release these three rare Pyramids’ recordings from the 70s on a triple CD box and a limited vinyl edition under the title: The Pyramids “They Play to Make Music Fire! The Pyramids 1973 – 1976” (DB162CD)

1972, also vor genau 40 Jahren,  wurden sie gegründet: The Pyramids. Bis zu ihrer Trennung 1977 veröffentlichte das afroamerikanische Jazz Kollektiv insgesamt drei Alben: Lalibela (1973), King Of Kings (1974) sowie die bahnbrechende Birth/Speed/Merging LP (1976). Drei Alben, die sie zu einem der mysteriösesten und legendärsten „Spiritual Cosmic Jazz Kollektiv“ der frühen Siebziger machten und sie in eine Reihe mit dem Art Ensemble of Chicago und Sun Ra stellen.

Um die Geschichte der Pyramids zu vervollständigen, bringt  Disko B nun auch noch die drei raren Pyramids Alben der 70iger Jahre in Form einer 3er CD Box heraus : The Pyramids “They Play to Make Music Fire! Stereo Total, the French-German couple from Berlin - oscillating between essential punk rock, disco, electro garage chanson and genious dilettantism - are covering two jewels of World´s Music History. David Bowie´s everlasting "Heroes" and Can´s catchy "Mary, Mary, so contrary", first sung by Francoise, the other by Brezel, they let them keep their unique magic and garnish them with Stereo Total´s no-one-sounds-like-this bitter-sweet charm.

tells Ebow, if you ask her about her music. Without fitting into any gangsta-stereotypes Munich artist Ebow and her producer Nik Le Clap merge hip hop, oriental samples and 90s r&b. She raised first attention by spontaneous pop-up performances at launderettes, supermarkets or in public transportation.
Comparisons to M.I.A. emerged mostly because of the video of her single „Oriental Dollar“ in which she was riding on elephants. Today she is almost annoyed by these comparisons. „I would never say I'm not influenced by M.I.A. but then you have to call every rapper in Germany, „The German Tupac“.

The Console commander also known under his moniker "Acid Pauli" again asked befriended producers to remix tracks from his album "Herself". After Douglas Greed, Marek Hemmann, Wareika and Dirty Doering it is now up to Daniel Bortz, Der Dritte Raum and Nu to reinterpret the Console’s songs and tickle new facettes out of original material.

In the Netherlands some neophile named I-f was fed up with the same old techno 'movement'. This in mind he added some fairly unorthodox dimensions to this gathering, forever changing its course. With primitive electronic equipment I-f transferred sounds from the 80s to the here and now. And by chance, he landed a hit. "Space Invaders are Smoking Grass" is I-f´s entry to Electro-anthem status. Like Funk never happened. 

This is family fodder for dance crazes, for lovers of 'alternative' music, for the whole scattered techno community, as well as for the homelistener who likes to smoke a cigar when hearing 'strange' sounds on the sofa. I-f´s versatile approach to music can't be measured with just this one track. His first full length album on Disko B records proves the point. Fucking Consumer is pretty strong stuff. Electro-nix pure and clear. No nice recycled retro package. It's out of it, sails in its own universe, because it doesn't rely on others.

The overall mood is well-tempered, it seems to be playing along some sound history. Next thing you know, Fucking Consumer is exploding into bursts of noise - what a pleasure. Track by track I-f demands the attention of the listener anew. The final countdown occurs in a little gothic interlude with G.D. from L.A.'s Christian Death delivering the vocals. This Record was the start of a series of records by I-f (I-F – The Man From P.A.C.K, 1999, The Parallax Corporation – Cocadisco in 2003). There were massive records following this pioneer advance and a first clash on electro was done long before Larry T was dreaming of creating electro-clash.

Four years after the last Console release “Mono” it’s time for some new vivid life signs of the famous Weilheim based collective. This time the new album titled “Herself” is a bit more of a solo attempt. Due to mastermind Martin Gretschmann’s always packed calendar it’s no surprise that first drafts of „Herself“ came to life on his laptop whilst on tour with The Notwist. The final recordings then took place in his studio together with singer Miriam Osterrieder and a bunch of electronic toys.

Heroes

Disko B wurde 1991 von Peter Wacha aka Upstart als Sublabel des Independent Labels Sub Up Records (F.S.K., Die Goldenen Zitronen, etc.) gegründet; damals noch unter dem Namen "Disko Bombs“. In den 90er Jahren zählte Disko B mit international anerkannten Künstlern wie DJ Hell, Acid Scout, I-F oder Dakar & Grinser zu den weltweit renommiertesten Labels für elektronische Musik. Im Windschatten der Disko B Struktur entwickelten sich um das Jahr 2000 herum auch das Künstlerlabel Chicks On Speed Records sowie DJ Hells Gigolo Records. Mit dem Signing von Künstlern wie Stereo Total, Console, Electronicat oder Schlachthofbronx hat sich Disko B im Laufe der Nullerjahre zu einem eklektischen Label entwickelt, für das keinerlei Genregrenzen mehr gelten.
