Half-tempo and unusual soundscapes are the hallmarks of Techno producer, live act and DJ Liza Aikin. In her Berlin studio, she is dedicated to tailor made music production, always looking to recreate the sound she was missing in her dj sets, with her favorite tools: field recordings and modular synthesizers.
Her work has been released on labels such as Mord Records, Emetic, Decoy Records and OBSCUUR.

Fairground of Tears is an artistic concept run by Piotr Sledzinski. A concept that is categorised by the darker, industrial and more energetic tones of the techno genre.
Piotr has experimented with electronic music of all colours partly through his former alias and alternative electronica project Ne Plus Ultra along with an involvement in the Passive Front Records imprint. This wide ranging experience and hunt for expression ultimately leads itself to the Fairground of Tears concept and Exiled event series. The latter playing host to Melania, Operant, Violet Poison, Blush Response to name a few and establishing itself as a premier and forward thinking events series. In that very same vein his own sets and productions are not bound by any specific style. Consequently an eclectic mixture of dense industrial textures and atmospheres as well as electronic body music can be expected in his mixes.

28th Episode of Cartel Podcast with Hypnoskull

June 2022 marked the exact 30th anniversary of German/Belgian Patrick Stevens (°1973) project hypnoskull which was started in 1992, rooted in the aftermath of the first wave of industrial music but as well in the humid warehouses of the early techno scene of the nineties and the underground stages of harsh noise. One of the pioneers to combine industrial music with techno resulting in legendary releases on the German cult-label ant-zen, numerous live performances all over the globe in iconic clubs like CBGB’s New York, Rex Paris, KitKat Berlin and cities like Moscow, Beirut, Los Angeles, Chicago and so on, this one-man project, sometimes expanded with artists and performers from contemporary dance, theatre and film, is as unpredictable as the ideology behind it: a lo-fi, harsh, monotone assault of political thoughts, subversive rants and sheer emotional outbursts towards a society first questioned, deconstructed, destroyed and left behind without a solution or a better plan. Music as a weapon and as well as a tool for self-dissection. In recent years, hypnoskull got acknowledged by lots of producers and artists in the field of industrial techno, resulting in releases, collaborations, remix work and production for many of the big players in this genre.

For this podcast, hypnoskull selected a number of brandnew tracks and releases as well as some forgotten old gems. Crossing every possible border of whatever written and unwritten rules of whatsoever ‘scene’ or subculture, this mix fiercely shows what it is still about for Patrick Stevens, after 30 years of producing, playing live and deejaying, as he states himself: ‘I get claustrophobic when I witness how the techno scene became lately. Techno became the soundtrack provided by good looking boys and girls who strive to make their business plans come true, in clubs that degraded themselves from laboratories to corporate boxes of emptiness. That’s why I selected both some radical memories from tracks and styles which were once as well played in the clubs, and some brilliant music by new, young and emerging producers. Belgium is as well coming back from a low, especially in the city of Brussels, where plenty of astonishing producers be them Belgians or expats gather and create a new wave of exciting electronic music as we speak. That was a long time ago. They’re in here as well by the likes of Maltash, Elaina Vierce and Raum. And Paris as well, check Age of hate, ZNZL, Prophän,… There’s a great connection between both cities also. I truly believe great stuff will happen again very soon.’

Biography:
Producer and familiar with turntables since his early teenage years, Znzl took inspiration from many genres to forge his techno.
Insatiable and eternally unsatisfied, he is always looking for new paths, creating a unique vibe, be it in intimistic venues or big warehouses. In a constant connection with the people, one will often see him jumping behind the decks, taking them on a journey from dark shamanic soundscapes to blissful moments of happiness.
Willing to help the others, he created and curated Level 32 podcasts pushing new talents to the front of the scene. He also took part in the creation and development of labels such as Wrongnotes, Messe Noire until he funded Demian Records with NN and Soundness Properties.

Biography:
Istanbul born and raised, Berlin based electronic musician and sound artist Hüma Utku explores the possibilities of how sound textures and rhythm can be used to evoke a sense of ancient within abstract electronic music. With an overall disregard for musical genre divisions, she fuses field recordings, traditional acoustic instruments, atmospheric ambience; into harmonious noise and harsh ritualistic rhythms as means to utilise sound and music as tools for storytelling.
In August 2018 ''Şeb-i Yelda'' (EP/12'') was released by Karlrecords, which presented Utku (as R.A.N.) with an evolved sound and strong theme to a wider international audience. Following the success of her EP, Utku released her debut full-length album under her own name ''Gnosis'' in July 2019 via the same label. This release gained Utku recognition for her unique approach of creating story plots by merging themes with electronics and traditional folkloric sounds.

Biography:
As a well-established artist, Rommek has creatively expanded in his own sound, as well as carving his way into the current techno and experimental scene. His extensive interest in sound design is crafted within the dense atmospheres, heavy broken drums and dynamic tones found within his productions. The London based producer released his debut 12” 'Thought Patterns EP' on Weekend Circuit in 2014. Since then, he’s released music on Leyla records, Methodical and in 2016 he joined the seminal Blueprint Records.
After various releases that grounded him within the Blueprint family, Rommek then completed his most establish work to date, the ‘Set In Stone Trilogy’ in 2018. The three part release compromises of 12 tracks, original and remixes from key members of the Blueprint team, James Ruskin, OVR, Broken English Club and Makaton. 
Torn Relics, the experimental project between Rommek + Aimee Mullen (Violinist and Vocalist) was formed during 2018. Their debut EP, The Poisoned Chalice, released on Sacred Court, featured a remix by label owner SNTS. In 2020 the duo’s debut 8-Track album: Abolish The Dogma, was released on Leyla Records.
