Berlin pairing Yeah But No return to Distant Echos this December with The Shadow Self II. Terr and Echonomist feature as remixers on this installment and the release marks the second addition of The Shadow Self series, fresh from the success of part one in October.

The pair described what each track represents, stating: “Going Down is a political statement towards everybody out there that sees his / her rights of self-determination. We take up the cudgels for all the people fighting for their elementary rights. Veneer symbolises a close friend, who I watched spiral downwards into the dark black. It is incredibly difficult to watch someone slip further and further, until you no longer recognise them.”
Going Down starts with stirringly-beautiful vocals, opening neatly into gentle key chimes that leave us feeling euphoric and pensive in one. Terr soon raises the tempo, curating six minutes of pumping electronica before Veneer takes us to a place of serenity. Chords unfurl into a poignant lyrical offering, as Echonomist’s remix soon arrives with melodic undertones and whirring synth combos.

Yeah But No is now the collaborative project of Fabian Kuss alongside AEON founder Alex Niggemann. Influenced by hypnotic techno and great pop music, the duo are carving out a haunting sound that is perfectly evidenced in their latest production series: The Shadow Self. From their eponymous debut album in 2017, to the success of their second LP two years later, Demons, this new series sets them up for a highlight 2021 that has seen the likes of Dixon, Mind Against and Adriatique support part one already this year.

Following up to his 2020-released sophomore album "Idiosynkrasia", Tim Engelhardt reemerges on Stil vor Talent with his new single, "Firestorm". Putting forth the widescreen poetic vision that has been flowing across his previous releases with an ever-fresh and adventurous approach, this Janus-faced new iteration from Tim fuses two distinct facets of the producer's output - one darker, more subdued, the other out-there and solar. 

Rolling hips with unabashed swagger, "Momentary" paves the way with a balanced mix of martial marching rhythms and floating keyboard melody tinged with a touch of Oriental chords. Slowly but surely hatching into a bespoke big-room churner as bars run by, the track offers moments of graceful escapism while steadily fanning the groove's flames so the fire doesn't go out, ever. Subtle yet grandiose, a piece of masterly executed electronics that definitely lacks no emotional power of agility. 

Draped in opaque shades of neo-classical harmonics, blazing with poignant violins, folk-pop-laced vocals and next-gen synth wizardry, the lead-track "Firestorm" oozes an ambiguous mix of dynamic strength and spiralling melancholy. The latest release from Tash's Movement Limited welcomes Shrii back to the label for her debut EP. The renowned Indian vocalist and producer has collaborated with some of electronic music's most creative talents. Joint projects with Bodaishin, Nandu, Nhii and more have led to releases via A Tribe Called Kotori, Human By Default, Siamese and Out Of Options. Also a frequent collaborator with Movement Recordings boss Tash, the pair have showcased their deep creations via Mango Alley and Movement Ltd, the latter of which came in July of last year. Now returning to the label for her first solo project, Shrii presents a three-track showcase entitled 'Cages'.

Opener 'Cages' is an apt barometer of where Shrii's headspace is at, letting timely vocal fragments and exotic percussive arrangements descend over buoyant beats and rippling grooves. Creamy pianos and soulful overlays cue full vocal phrasing across the main break, tactfully moving forward as broken beats provide a bridge into a funky, key changing finale.
