In spring 2023 I made a second trip to Precious Hall in Sapporo to play again with the wonderful Occa at his Archiv party. This time we took things deeper, darker, more disturbed... at one point we were playing in almost total darkness, completely absorbed in the mesmerising, truly immersive sound system.
Essentially this serves as the second part of the mix I did there in 2022, and hopefully marks a succession of annual visits to this beautiful looking and unique-sounding venue.

Viernes noche, sábado, o incluso domingo. Un día más, te rindes ante los placeres más banales y acabas entregándote a la noche. No te pierdes una, todo hay que decirlo. 

La pista arde, el club está a rebosar y el DJ lanza las mejores canciones de ayer y de hoy. Todo parece fluir de la mejor de las maneras, sin embargo, hay algo en tu interior que no te deja disfrutar. Más concretamente, una voz. Esa voz que te asalta siempre que intentas desconectar y te impide dejarte llevar al 100% por tu vena hedonista. Las preguntas se amontonan tu cabeza: 

¿Has puesto la lavadora? 

¿Por qué tarda tanto en responderte ese chico? 

¿Te van a despedir? 

¿El resto de personas estarán escuchando lo mismo que tú? 

¿Por qué tu conciencia tiene acento argentino?

La curiosidad es una gran virtud, pero la pista de baile no es el lugar para resolver esas dudas. Tarde o temprano tienes que aprender que, aunque sea imposible apagar las voces de tu cabeza, siempre puedes ignorarlas. Entrégate a la música.

It’s time for De Reünie Mix Series 004: @ferrarirot

Like the vibrant red of a certain luxury carmaker, ferrari rot knows how to turn heads. Her roots lie in Tech and Electro House from the 2000s, but she’s never been one to stay in a single lane. Her sets push boundaries with a fearless, curious approach that’s unmistakably her own – always lower-case, always high energy.

She doesn’t shy away from sounds others might dismiss. For her, no genre is off-limits – as long as the bassline hits right. Describing herself as “cunty but cohesive, subversive yet sexy”, her mixes favour slow burns over cheap thrills, while still making room for a bit of both.

Her bold approach has earned her international recognition, with Boiler Room appearances in Budapest and London, a tour of Australia, and gigs at top clubs like Nowadays in New York and Left Bank in Tbilisi. A close ally of crews like Herrensauna and MARICAS, she’s a shape-shifter behind the decks – unpredictable, unforgettable, and never boring.

This mix is a collection of tracks assembled with care and a little mischief – a soundtrack for intimate corners, stolen moments, and messy conversations that stretch into the night. De Reünie Mix Series 003: ferrari rot

A clinic in minimal from the elusive Acting Press boss. 

Why do certain sounds cultivate a cult following? Simply put, it's often because they resist easy consumption. PLO Man and his imprint Acting Press lean into this. 

Searching for the Berlin-based DJ and producer, you won’t find much online presence, interviews or conventional PR. What you will find, if you look hard enough, is a catalogue of records and mixes with a kind of tape hiss charm (a spiritual successor to Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, but scuzzier and lighter on its feet).

Founded in 2015, Acting Press once seemed to belong to the short-lived "outsider house" trend, but is now synonymous with a certain strain of modern minimal, one that is analogue, spacious and pointedly opaque. PLO Man's output is equally sparse by design: this week, he joins the RA Podcast with a characteristically elusive style, accompanying the near two-hour mix is a one-answer Q&A that gives almost nothing away.

Stripped-back, ever-so-slightly sleazy and coated in dust, PLO Man's RA Podcast continues that lineage in style. Opening with the featherlight microhouse of Margaret Dygas, RA.988 unfolds into a carefully curated spectrum of minimal, dub and deep techno. Among familiar names—look out for the blinding Rhythm & Sound and Moodymann blend—are deep cuts and left turns alongside the odd outlier, like lovers' rock pioneer Gregory Isaacs.

Like the best of his forebears, PLO Man wants RA.988 to take time for you to settle in. But once you do, you won’t want to leave.
