Leo Miyagee’s EP ‘Trust God, Love Yours, Do Bits In Life’ is the first release on new label, District Recordings.

Leo is a London-raised, Belfast-based, Zimbabwean artist.

According to him the narrative of the new EP is a diary of his own personal and spiritual growth during a time where he was obsessed over “who I am, where I’m from, who I want to be, as well as embracing my own roots and heritage in addition to the cultures I was raised and now live in”.

“Ultimately it deals heavily with my belief in God which has always been there and how it helped me through this existential crisis. The purpose of this whole thing was to show people it’s okay to sometimes feel discomfort and negative emotions and that they need tackle these emotions in a positive and productive way.”

In college and school, there’s rarely discussion of the implications of burnout, how to manage time, budgets or how you can develop sustainable practices to ensure you are your best self. Basically all the non creative parts of being an artist or self-employed person. They came correct with the practices improving their work life balance after a period of reflection in January.

We recently managed to pin down Hugh 'the Badarse' Cooney for a chat ahead of his shows at The Sugar Club on December 28th & 29th. Tickets for the first show sold out quickly, but due to 'femonomal' demand, a second date was added. Act quick though, there's less than fifty tickets left for it.

Seán Pussys is the founder of Pussys.club, a collective of young, LGBT-friendly Irish outsiders with a penchant for design, music, sportswear and pills.

He's been involved with Pilly Willy, an exhibition of gay club fliers from Ireland's past, as well as creating a subversive clothing line with the biggest seller being a rebranded Lidl bag and running a series of queer friendly club nights in Galway.

Seán Pussys of Pussys.club discusses Ireland's disenfranchised youth - In Conversation 9

We first encountered Mark Logan when we met up with him and Damian Murphy for a conversation about comparing club culture in LA and Dublin. On the back of that conversation Mark shot a poignant feature in Issue 001 entitled ‘Liberated’.

Now he’s taking over The Tara Building from July 19-26 for his debut photography exhibition.

The show is called DiVERSE and doesn’t represent the diversity of ethnicity, but “the diversity of human experience had by each of us”.

We discuss his chosen medium and how he sees the landcape of Irish culture since his return from LA.

Irish hip hop wouldn't exist at the level it is today without Lethal Dialect. Any fan of the genre in this country should be aware of his legacy and the influence he has had on today's sound.

He recently took to Twitter saying "the bravado, the misogyny and the alpha male bullshit that accompanied the LD moniker was to be swiftly dropped", citing influences from Rubberbandits, Damien Dempsey, Tara Flynn, Una Mulally and the passing of a friend to suicide as the catalyst.

Kelly-Anne Byrne is one of Ireland's most loved and hardest working DJs. She's put in countless hours behind the clubs' decks and played music for multiple radio stations around Ireland, specialising in disco but never turning down a good tune from any genre.

We sat down with her last month to discuss her musical upbringing with Phantom 105.2, emigrating to New York to focus on playwriting and rediscovering DJing over, and finally focussing on the contentious issue of women in dance music.

At 29, [Noel Rock] is Fine Gael's youngest TD, and one of the youngest in the Dáil. He represents Dublin North West, and we're particular fans of his in the District office because he's taking a stand against ticket touting in Ireland. 

Through passing a private member's bill, he aims to make above-price ticket reselling a criminal offence, which means fans will be able to access tickets when touts can't profit from them, and there'll be no more paying out the nose for gigs. Here, Adam Heaton chats with him about his background, the contents of the bill itself, and some of the reasons Noel is so against ticket touting.

Henry Earnest - New Voices Episode 7 w/ Tower Records

This month you’ll notice District’s GUIDE magazine around the city has gone through a temporary change. For one month only, it will be called GiVE. We’re proud to be linking up with our pals in Collective Dublin to help launch their most ambitious exhibition to-date.

From December 13-16 in The Copperhouse Gallery, they’ll bring together 18 uniquely talented artists who have each donated an original piece of work to be auctioned on opening night, as well as a limited edition print to be sold in editions of 50.

Each print is priced at €50 with 100 per cent of the funds being donated to Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH). Their aim is to raise in excess of €55,000.

In this episode we catch up with exhibition curator Mark William Logan as well as having a quickfire chat with Molly Keane, Cormac Dunne, Decoy, Domino Whisker, Frame on South William St, Greg Purcell, Aches, Sinead Bailey Kelly, Sean O’Rourke & Kevin William Flynn to discuss what GiVE is and why they're involved.

Con O'Brien, aka K-One, is an accomplished artist who's work has taken him all over the world. Currently based in Amsterdam, he was back in Ireland recently to paint. We met him in Cork for a conversation ahead of his involvement in the Lucozade Energy Sessions last month.

For this special edition of the District Conversations Podcast Craig Connolly was joined by acclaimed musician and horror fanatic Matthew Nolan to discuss his score of the 1922 Scandinavian horror masterpiece Häxan. The debut screening of this will take place on November 1st at the Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda. 

Häxan is one of many events that make up the inaugural edition of Púca with the likes of Just Mustard, Æ MAK, David Keenan, Pillow Queens, Kormac, Lisa O'Neill and many more performing between the October 31 and November 2 across the festival venues in Trim, Athboy and Drogheda.
