INTERVIEW

1. What do you do to get into a creative state?
"I don't have one simple solution for that. The most common way I think is just to start playing around with an instrument like a synth, guitar, piano or drum machine and suddenly I have an idea. Another trick that usually work is changing the setting, like going out in nature while listening to some good composer/producer/songwriter or bringing the laptop to a café or beach.

2. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
"Almost anything can inspire me in a creative way. Everyday situations, environments, feelings. I of course also draw inspiration from other producers and composers. Mostly I get inspiration from music not so close to my own genres like classic compositions or old pop songs and music from my childhood. A great source of inspiration are soundtracks to old and new movies and tv series (e.g. soundtracks to "Bladerunner", from 1982, Stanley Kubricks "2001 - A Space Odessey" or the quite recent tv series "The Knick")."

3. What do you love most about being an artist?
"I think I'm fortunate to be passionate about something that I also have a talent for. Bur at least for me being a producer, musician and sound designer is A LOT of hard work. I "sacrifice" a lot of free time, vacations and social life to have time for everything. Luckily my close ones have patience with me."

4. How do you stay focussed in a world of constant distraction?
"Making music is my escape from the noisy world around me and the studio environment is one of the few places I really can focus to 100%. That doesn't mean that every studio session is enjoyable. Sometimes I just have to force myself to do the necessary work e.g. when I have a deadline."

5. Do you have a morning routine?
"Nothing unusual I think. Breakfast, coffee and the morning news. Then try to get going with work as soon as possible."

6. What fascinates you about your art from?
"I've realised that I will never stop learning new things. My working methods, my taste, my way of listening is constantly changing so I'm constantly learning (and re-learning) techniques and ways of creating. I guess thats whats keeping the creations interesting and not stuck in one place."

7. What, for you, is the purpose of art?
"For me the musical creations are just something I need to do, get out of my system. It's very therapeutic. Also getting responses from my audience means the world to me. A big part of how I feel about myself and my life is connected to how my musical development is going."

8. What is your opinion on success?
"Doing what you love and feel good about it."

9. What is your opinion on failure?
"When your creative process becomes a job controlled by others. When you no longer feel a connection with your creations."

10. In which ways could the scene improve in the future?
"Both the musical industry and the clubbing/concert industry are very focused on making quick money. Especially when it comes to getting the opportunity to play in front of an audience it's almost impossible to get some stage time for new talents. Instead of searching for tomorrow's musical talents, the dj slots generally go to DJ's that don't at all contribute to the scene musically, just professional party animals that in best case can beatmatch two songs. For me personally that category doesn't interest me at all. This is also a disaster for all those creative souls who will never get a chance to get their music heard and maybe give up pursuing their musical ambitions."

11. Most profound insight you had since you started this career?
"There is an almost 100% correlation between success and the hours you put in."

The art of music has touched the hearts of human beings around the planet for thousands of years. It's a universal language with the ability to express what can't be expressed through words or thought. It can induce strong emotions, alter our states of consciousness and let us experience reality in a different way. It can draw us into the present moment, where just the music exists - unfolding through time, moment by moment. When we let go and merge into the auditory sensations, it takes us on an inner journey. Using this not to escape, but to fully embrace reality as it is, music can help us release tensions and bring balance to our everyday life. 
Especially dance music allows us to unify with the flow of the music. When we express the energy it releases within us, by just giving ourselves to it and following the spontaneous and authentic movements of our bodies, we can experience a state of connection, peace and joy. Doing this collectively, synchronously moving to the same rhythm and sharing this special experience, we feel a connection that resonates within.

With DIT KLINGT JUT we want to express our love for music and manifest the meaning it can have for all of us. We do this by providing a thoughtfully curated space for artists and labels to share their music, organizing events & live-streams and serving as a platform to share ideas on music and the creative process.
