How Do You Sleep at Night Theme

The Norman Records podcast returns after countless (two) requests and a whole bunch of baited breath! We're massively thrilled to welcome Australian post-rock crew Tangents to the fold, who have an upcoming record called 'New Bodies' on the way. If it's anywhere near as good as their last, stringently jammed masterwork 'Stateless', then we're all on a Northern Rail hype train.

Tangents' music lives for strange contradictions: jumpy in abundance, it's also buttoned down, the band playing a sort of restrained jazz aesthetic as a tease to those who want them to give in to the climaxes and math rock catharsis. Offering hints of Do Make Say Think, Jaga Jazzist and Ex-Easter Island Head, they're perpetual but never still; in this mix by bandmember Peter Hollo, they reimagine the movements and segues of their sound, effectively remixing themselves into new, unrefined contexts. It's a blast!

Norman Records Podcast #21: Tangents ("Tangents Play Tangents")

This track was produced in 2021. The reason why this version feels so empty is because it was a performance collaboration with a tap dancer (Tara L), for a university course. The middle section was the tap dancer's solo, in combination with vocal chop improvisations from me (which are not in this verson).

I got to play with some gear from the uni though, one of the Arturia Prophets. I thought this was worth adding to the archives though, it was something so different from what I think I usually do. Although still quite repetitive.

I reaaaallly really LOVE 4:30 onwards hehe
