Having enjoyed the honour of launching the label last summer with the highly acclaimed ‘Firethorn’ and ‘Pandorum’, Frankee’s doubled his dynamite with no less than four dancefloor-focussed slices of absolute bass gold.
Showcasing his creative range with depth and clarity, every element on this EP is coated in a robust sense of timeless drum & bass magic and melody: Nodding at the scene’s rich past, while pushing us as far into the future as possible, each cut will quickly find its way to the very top of your playlist.
We launch with ‘Harlequin’, a purring roller that’s devilishly simple but demonically effective. A groaning bassline and tubular subs vie for your attention as the steppy riddim drills the message home with such razor-sharp punctuation, each additional percussive element that’s added as the track develops causes major chaos.
Next-up ‘Paranormal’. An instant hair-raiser, the quintessential pitched down pianos conjure up 25 years of rave heritage in one simple reverberated strike. Then, before nostalgia kicks in too much, in fires a scorching bassline that grizzles and kicks its way through the mix with uncompromising menace. If you thought the low-end growls of Frankee’s previous release were stuff of legend, just wait until you hear this bass behemoth!
‘Saffron’ follows. Oozing low-end luxury and a swift, skippy riddim, it’s an instant groove massage laced with floating vocal textures and emotive, ethereal pads. An instant hypnotiser, it instantly flies your floor to places they didn’t even know existed. Paying respect to the expensive, aromatic delicacies of its namesake, ‘Saffron’ more than lives up to its name.
Finally we hit ‘Flintstone’. Concluding this epic tale with a wry grin, it’s the perfect balance of deep, dark rollage and subtle humour. The overwhelmingly warm sub squiggles, icy pads and textured percussive dynamics make this track a must for all record boxes!
Seldom does an EP come with such a fitting title…Not just a bold statement of dancefloor intent, each of these four cuts mark a quintessential turning point in Frankee’s promising career. From young hopeful to bona fide hot prospect, Frankee has firmed up a front row seat in D&B’s future.

	Exploding onto the new year is Los Angeles based duo, Kronology, and their beautifully executed remix of Theatrix’s “With Me.” This stripped back and heart pounding, dance-floor smasher rattles your roots and resonates deep within the depths of your soul. The pulsing bassline smashes against a stripped back drumline while Franny B’s vocals weave in and out of the soundscape.

	Technique Recordings artists Kronology are no strangers to the drum and bass chapel. Their tunes have found their way into circles of the top DJs. This pair of sonic mystics have moved spirits of both the living and the dead for the last 4 years. The dichotomy of the souls known individually as Slogun and iOh is one that has been echoed in countless tales of duality. These two have transcended boundaries of music and time while constructing an impenetrable wall of sound. It is with great honor that we accept this offering from this pair of magical beings. Future Tech have returned. For those who don't know the history, this was the production outfit behind the very first release on Technique Recordings back in 1999, as well as the twentieth-anniversary remix that introduced the name to a whole new generation. But, even if the name's unfamiliar, the artists behind it certainly aren't. You know them as Drumsound & Bassline Smith.

So what does contemporary Future Tech music sound like?

Well, right from the unsettling glitches and darkside claustrophobia of the intro, 'Sabotage' is a raw and gritty proposition. That unrelenting buzzsaw bass tone slices through the atmosphere, a militant call-to-action for the dance.

Then, Future Tech drop us into a shadowy stepper, fluctuating waves and pulses of bass occupying the space left by the minimalist drums. Already, this is going to hit hard in raves everywhere, but there's more to come. Keep it running and you reach a masterful breakdown, drawing on a new palette of swirling atmospheric sounds, reconfiguring and rebuilding to dancefloor destruction.

In what, hopefully, is the first of many new Future Tech productions, Drumsound & Bassline Smith have delivered an expert-level deejay weapon. Minimal yet heavyweight, elegantly restrained but explosively powerful, this is yet another stylistic twist in the story of these legendary producers. Don't miss it.
