AEC Beat (produced by Swamburger & DiViNCi)

PUSH beat was one of my first deliberate solo tracks.  I made it the morning of my first official solo gig at a weekly IDM night in Orlando called "PUSH." I wanted to work the night before the show date to come up with a piece that could serve as the center piece of my set.  Instead, Swam and I got into a really involved discussion that lasted til morning.  At the end of the conversation I had a revelation, "I dunno, man, Music just helps me learn so much about life."  To both Swam and my surprise right after I spoke this matter of fact revelation, I started balling at the poignancy of it all.  I'll never forget his reaction.  With a surprised look he exclaimed, "DUDE! You just made yourself cry".. .hahah.. After we both laughed it off I turned to my MPC and immediately made this beat.  It was so fluid that it was almost created in realtime.  In fact, the way it's arranged here is very close to the way it was created.  This must have been 2004 or something.  Many OG Solillaquists of Sound fans will know it well because for years it was the defacto introduction to any performances of ours (search on youtube and you will see a ton of footage of me performing this).  Years later DJ Scientist from Equinox Records release it as a 7" in Europe.  And around the same time our homie Maker mashed it up with Big Boi's Kryptonite and would play it at some of his gigs..  I recently had Maker dig up that version so I decided to throw it up on my soundcloud for this week's #NewTunesTuesday.  I'll put up the original sometime soon.. Either way, enjoy.. this is a pivotal piece of my musical upbringing.. Not too mention the irony in the title of the track.. A foreshadowing to my future as a PUSHr and Ableton PUSH lover. This arrangement of this track has been stuck in my head for most of my life but I never made it cause I always thought it was more funny than anything.  The idea of something repeating obnoxiously cracks me up.  My friend, Aaron, heard me singing this one day and pleaded with me for a year to actually make it.  I finally did and I love it..  Thanks Aaron.. I have a whole albums worth of song concepts like this, where I loop the repeating parts of songs.  I'm going to call that album 'Ad Infinitum' once it's finished. That Lutho (Never Too Much}

This is the end section of a new Chakra Khan song called "Bravery Today" (peep the music video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UStglZgFlDU). I wanted to share this because it was another moment of making music where I surprised myself.  At first, I thought I was going to need to enlist a jazz band to play what I envisioned this song needed but I kind of slacked on reaching out to the musicians.  So before I scrapped the idea altogether, I figured i'd just give it a shot myself.. Even though I was sure it would take me a year to be at the place to perfectly execute what was in my head, let alone match the live feel I thought it needed.  To make a short story long, what you hear here is the result of about 10 minutes of suspending my doubt and trusting my musical reflexes.  Save for a couple of minor tweaks after the fact, most of the music was done in single takes and everything was played using my beloved Ableton PUSH.  What I thought would take me months of tedious work, took less than 15 minutes of having fun. This is just another example of what happens when you get out of your head and into your body, When you quiet your inner dialogue to let your actions do the talking.  I chose this picture because it reminds me that the blind enthusiasm that was afforded to me when I first started is a more useful tool than the ability to predetermine results based on experience. I made this last night 2 hours before my show to be played at a controllerism battle/event here in Orlando called The Status Byte Breakdown. So needless to say this is as far as I got with it. I will be finishing the full version of this remix soon.. For now here is a snippet. While I've been toying around with Dubstep elements for years this is officially my first attempt at a proper dubstep track.

As a founding member & producer of Orlando-based Hip Hop group, Solillaquists of Sound, DiViNCi first gained notoriety by using multiple MPCs (drum machines) in ways the world had never seen before.
