Introducing Fate: A brand new label from Hungary’s finest drum & bass export Chris.SU.

Having destroyed floors for years with his gritty grooves on labels such as Subtitles, Commercial suicide, Bad Taste and Spearhead, he’s decided to take fate into his own hands… Literally.

Launching with a precision statement of intent, this release carefully balances consistency with variety. Showcasing the label’s remit while reminding us just how sharp he is in the studio, across two tracks Chris.SU has created a special vibe that hints at a very promising future for Fate… And he’s done so with two old sonic compatriots – Mira and State Of Mind.

Following their critically acclaimed work together on last year’s ‘Higher’, ‘Together In The Night’ sees Chris recruit the stunning vocals of Mira once again. Armed with complementary styles, Chris’s undulating waves of subtle bass fluctuate beneath Mira’s emphatic, emotionally rich delivery. Heightened further by shimmering, arpeggios and star-gazing synths, it’s a quintessential dreamy dynamic. Expect nothing but hugs, blissed out faces and perhaps a few smooches on your floor when you drop this… Pure rolling romance.

‘The Burning’ ensures we’re not too caught up in the emotional side of the dance: a tag-team with old New Zealand friends State Of Mind, it’s a crisp, techy message of menace. After an opening salvo of icy, cosmic synths and spine-shuddering prayer calls we’re thrown head first into the gnarly bass drop that rifles its way along with turbo-charged tenacity, switching into longer drone flexes on the fills for added excitement. The breakdown strips back the elements succinctly to just one powerful synth, giving the second drop even more impact. Make no mistakes, this is pure nocturnal naughtiness.

Legion & Logam, a trio who've cemented themselves as an international crossover act whilst pedestalling US drum & bass within the Ram roster. After the breakaway success of their first single on the Program imprint, 'House of Cards', as well as a host of fresh cuts of the Ram Records compilation series, they're returning with a single to cement themselves yet again within the genre's fabric. Having become a staple of festival stages globally, it's no surprise they've piqued such interest across the scene.

'To Be Alone' features Micah Freeman on vocals, making another appearance since 'Holding On' and adding his signature twist between carefully constructed layers of noise. Freeman's voice stretches to its furthest heights, dropping down musical crescendos and over kicking drum patterns. Snapping percussion washes over each train of sound with distorted guitar underpinning each segment. Piano notes filter through the mix, creating an emotional composition that pedestals the style Legion & Logam reign over.

Once again, it's time to get with the Program… One that celebrates diversity whilst distributing acts like Legion & Logam onto an unsuspecting audience since its inception.

Renraku mainstay Dictate has never been one to remain comfortable with his productions, focusing on unusual arrangements and refined sound design, his vision to push his sound into new territories has most recently culminated in the form of his Noclip EP.
 
The title track, Noclip (ft. EMP), sets the scene for Dictate’s vision. Unabashedly raw, yet nuanced. Featuring a heavy synth melody and pounding drums beneath EMPs distorted vocals, the composition results in something that's not quite hip hop nor bass music, but certainly welcome within both contexts.
 
The second selection, Pandora, is Dictate’s first step into the world of Analog bass music. Immediately Blasting the listener with huge lows and dissonant arps, Pandora instantly stands out as a go to festival anthem.
 
In Mitocondrion, Dictate’s unparalleled drum mastery gives new meaning to complexity.  Interwoven with next level bass design and melodic structure, drums get pulled from all directions, surrounding the listener in a final product that narrates a mind bending sonic journey.
 
The final track, titled Cortex, Begins with a richly textured atmosphere and quickly evolves into a twisting and diverse landscape of sonic power; each section more compelling than the last.  With the attention to detail and the exacting nature of this composition, Cortex ends the EP on a high note.

The Maw, a 5-track showcase of limitless ability from Renraku veteran Ascent, brings idiosyncratic rhythms, imaginative textures, and rich synth lines together into something entirely his own. Coming from the halftime scene, Ascent has carried his mastery of underground music and sound design into IDM territory as a necessary effort to bring new ideas to the genre.

Beginning with textured and atmospheric “Kin”, Ascent makes contact with hip-hop just long enough to grab listeners’ attention before settling into a tasteful 2-step groove. Lush synth design, somewhat reminiscent of old school rave pads, pull listeners directly into the sub-heavy climax of this fantastic introduction to the release.

Next up, the soon-to-be bass anthem "Control" shows Ascent's outstanding ability to combine his influences across all genres to form his own unique sound. Bearing syncopated beats and gnarled bass riffs, "Control" moves effortlessly across trap drum patterns, drum & bass synth stabs, and pseudo-footwork vibes to ensure listeners are always kept busy.

"The Maw" follows up by revisiting the footwork influence found in the previous song while also managing an even greater emphasis on dynamic rhythm sequences. Serving as the titular track, it bridges the gap between classic electronic music and the up-to-date style only Ascent is capable of by incorporating expert production techniques and extensive knowledge of his inspirations.

As a follow-up to the previous track's meticulous artistry, "Forsythe" leads the release into garage territory, rapidly switching between unique drum arrangements to constantly evolve the track throughout. Avoiding traditional motifs (yet still feeling welcome within this context), the melodic patterns found throughout "Forsythe" add flavors from mainstream electronic music to account for the musical tastes of a wide audience.

The record’s conclusion holds true to the previous concepts, but lets its power fall into a weighty, sluggish vibe to move Ascent’s previously established abilities into even more unexplored territory. Interrupted only by an anthemic and trance-influenced breakdown, “Surface Tension” brings Ascent’s masterpiece to its finish with deep basses fused to crunchy sound design, a vintage-sounding melodic section, and a final section reminiscent of the halftime scene that The Maw is sure to inspire.

this was the first track in the ep that i wrote, and was meant to be featured on a different project. in short moments, the elements in this track sound static, but in longer timespans they change drastically, like fast cuts interrupted by freeze frames.
