Nocturnal District - 7 AM Greenhouse Sunrise Set

Set inspired by @lemuriansounds

Earlier this year I had a chance to check out Elements music festival somewhere in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania. Having gone to lots of music festivals, I decided that there is no point trying to see specific acts and just go with the flow and discover new acts…..and this strategy worked like a charm. 

We stumbled across this DJ called Lemurian, I’d never heard of this guy, but right from the start, his set was different. At first, it was jarring cause the previous DJ was spinning beats at 120 + bpm, but as soon as Lemurian took over, he dropped the BPM to like 105-110 and started playing all sorts of world sounds. By world sounds I mean there were songs from Africa, Latin America, Turkish Folk songs and the highlight for me was when he played a straight up South Indian wedding song! I have NEVER heard a traditional South Indian wedding song in a set let alone at a music festival. I was hooked and charmed, this guy was breaking the mold. I was listening to fresh, melodic tunes which defied all genres. 

Inspired by Lemurian I’ve recorded my first DJ set which I’m choosing to put up on Soundcloud. I obviously don’t have the skill or finesse that Lemurian has but have tried to incorporate some worldly tunes in this set. Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Oh.. I got to listen to Lemurian again that festival this time it was followed by @undersmusic and @besvendsen ..probably the best music night I’ve had in years.

Global beats set 1

Day Zero in Tulum, Mexico is possibly the best party I've ever been to. Here is a set inspired by the tribal beats I heard dropped by Black Coffee and Damian Lazarus. Damian's set was simply incredible. He is a master behind the decks and really killed it. What an incredible time!!

The idea behind my Global Beats mixtape series is to showcase music from all over the world. In this time of chaos, my mechanism for coping is music. I get particular joy in finding music where I don't recognize the language or genre. After all, good music is good music regardless of where it is from or who made it. I'm setting my sets free. I didn't upload these sets because I didn't think they are "good enough, But in retrospect, I had a ton of fun while recording them or playing them outlive. So while they might have technical glitches and some shoddy mixing, they do capture a place and time for me. In this case, this was my first set I played out at a club in Berlin! It's carnival house/techno. I danced ALOT during this set. I hope you enjoy it!
