Today we embark on a special journey with our dear friend Amer from Old City. Old City has been close to Amaya since the very beginning and we have enjoyed our relationship for a number of years. We are so happy to have you today sharing this beautiful and eclectic mix, perfectly balanced and mixed. It truly shows how deep and thoughtful Old City's musical storytellings evolve. 
As usual we get to know more about Old City in our interview at the end.

"While creating a set, I process a lot of what I go through and make sense of my journey by drawing meaning from the stories that reveal themselves. What is this song about? What does it make me feel? Is there a story that I can draw an emotional attachment from? A lot of realizations have come about this past year as I ask myself these questions. The deeper question being masked by that is really: how am i feeling today? Through that constant self assessment, I get to know myself a little better, peel the layers and understand what each phase means to me. I get to know myself best when I’m creating. Through music, through starting to explore photography and through writing, I’m expanding the channels in which I can absorb, process, learn and then share. Old City is my attempt at doing so. 

As many people already know, I started playing alone for over a year now without the partner that I started this all with - a gap that has forced me to ask myself endless questions and go through a lot of internal growth. I have a lot of emotions towards having to fill that gap and losing a partner in this journey, but every “positive” or “negative” experience exists to teach us something. We ask ourselves the hardest questions when it’s a “negative” experience, and sometimes can go a little less self aware when we’re on that “positive” momentum. I went in a different direction musically and used it as an opportunity to self discover, experiment and increase my range. I played disco, house, minimal, acid jazz, blues, afro funk, progressive house. All blended in a way that felt unique to my taste and felt right to the ambience of where I was playing. But I perhaps also escaped what reminded me of the original essence of why Old City came to be and I continued to distract myself away from the hardest question.

This set for Amaya’s radio show is my deepest and most personal, emotional reflection and I want it to tell you what I love, what I truly care about, and what I am starting to understand Old City to be, authentically me. Some elements, particularly the important message during the closing of this set was something very special I wanted to share during my sunset time slot on the Maxa Art Car at Burning Man this year, but that set was cancelled last minute and I was left heartbroken that I couldn’t share that message then and there. But naturally I immediately knew this radio show with Amaya was the right home for it. There is a 45 mins interview at the end that I shed a bit of light on this as well and a first open heart discussion about my story and beliefs. For those of you that take the time to read this and to listen to my set(s), thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to share this time with you" @oldcitysounds

Bespoke Musik Radio 083 : Art of Life

Strange Alliances holds two striking and contemporary tracks by the Tel Aviv native – who also has releases out on Turbo and Life and Death - plus remixes by Trikk and Rebolledo. And so it seems the Amsterdam based label has another winner on their hands. 
With Autarkic having an exceptional personality one would expect the same from his music. And this is exactly what you get with Strange Alliances, as his originality shines through on both tracks. Interesting fact is that Autarkic used a lot of live instruments and his own vocals on both tracks, adding to the ingenuity of the DGTL 006 release.
Starting with Strange Alliances, which begins with a wavey and rhythmic path until the driving bassline and signature trumpet sounds kick in. Strange Alliances continues into the hallucinogenic vocals and an acid line that is highly infectious and keeps you in a trance until the very end of the track.
The EP moves on to Stutter Jazz; a funky and dreamy rhythmical track with – just like in Strange Alliances – the live elements clearly present too. As the track moves to the end more and more details are passing.
On the B-side Trikk has kept Strange Alliances almost completely in tact, but poured it with eerie sounding, long stretched synth chords that expand on into the break. After this the synths make space for a drum-line until the track fades with just the beat holding up.
Rebolledo tweaked the wobbly bassline a bit and stripped everything off of the track making it stand out on itself while never steering far from the original version.
Every five to six releases DGTL asks a new designer or artist to create the sleeves of the EPs. For the Strange Alliances release Tim Straver and Boris Acket produced one of their 3D designs based on Autarkic’s music and a couple of question they asked him.
DGTL is revisiting Tel Aviv for the second time on September 29th for another edition of their festival. Just like last year Autarkic will play one of his live sets during DGTL Tel Aviv keeping the Amsterdam x Tel Aviv connection alive.

Founded in 2006 by Solomun and Adriano Trolio in Hamburg, nowadays undeniably amongst the hottest imprints worldwide: Diynamic Showcase events all around the globe, Diynamic Festivals in Amsterdam, Berlin and Brazil, two own weekly residencies on Ibiza including the infamous “Solomun +1” events at legendary night club Pacha and the Diynamic Outdoor event series as well as own stages at major music festivals everywhere.
