Since the first solo mix I ever did back on Black Friday of 2008, I've always made it a point to record a new one every year as a way of saying THANK YOU to all of my supporters, I truly appreciate each and every one of you! This mix is always comprised of a bunch of records I never used on mixes or really played out, somewhat of a "throwaway" mix for your listening pleasure. Of course not in the sense the records were wack! I can't put out wack music for the sake of putting something out! ;-)

These mixes have always and will always be a free download. But this year I have decided to open up a donation button, but not to support myself, but to support my native country of the Philippines and those greatly affected by the recent Typhoon Haiyan. Donations are set for only $1 AND FOR EVERY DOLLAR DONATED I WILL PERSONALLY MATCH AN ADDITIONAL DOLLAR OUT OF MY OWN POCKET!

So please, if you can spare just one dollar, you would be supporting much more than myself and the scene, but a much needed human cause! Even if you can't, sharing the mix and the message would be just as helpful! Found deep in my mp3 crates, the first solo mix I ever did! This was a mix I did with mostly leftover records from the first mix I did with DJ Basic, Never Forgive Action 5. I happened to do this on Black Friday of 2008, so I entitled it the Thanksgiving Leftovers.

Ever since then, I've done some kind of mix and released it on Black Friday, so its become a little tradition of mine. It also cool to be able to see how much I progress from year to year, and of course, who wouldn't want some free music?

90% of this mix is comprised of records that were intended for past mixes (dating to almost 2 years back) but were never used. Whether it was because I didn't have enough time in the mix, it didn't fit in with the rest of the records, or I just changed my mind -- it never made the chopping block. There are a few new joints I recently ran into that I wanted to throw in and a couple of records I wanted to bring back but play differently, but the concept of this mix is putting together a bunch of leftover records.

The very first Thanksgiving Leftovers mix (2008) was created for this reason so now I do this every year and offer it out for free downloads.

The Thanksgiving Leftovers 2017

This is the second installment of the Playdutshet series started by DJ Basic. At jams we like to play all kinds of records and not just the hardcore drum breaks, so we wanted to change the format a little bit this time around. For this volume, we decided to highlight the vocals that are often left out when DJs play breaks -- but still done in a manner for the bboys! So every song on here has some funky singing on it!



We also continued the funny "uncle" theme Basic and Sureshot started with the first mix to put a little bit of our Filipino heritage in our work. We also used the Russian neighbor singing karaoke skit as our entire basis for this volume, where everyone singing on the mix are guests at our family party (karaoke is a BIG staple at many Filipino parties). So, just a little extra flava to make things funny (Think DJ Qbert/Skratch Piklz/etc).

DJ Basic & DJ B Ryan - Playdutshet Volume 2

10 years ago as I was still in my early stages of DJing, I wanted to practice and record a mix with some records that were leftover from doing Never Forgive Action 5 with DJ Basic. I never meant for it to be an official mix by any means (all vinyl, plus I was terrible lol).

Not entirely sure why I started trying to do the mixes every year, but eventually people started asking me about them in anticipation of the next Thanksgiving, so I kept at it -- and 10 years and 10 mixes later here we are (I sadly, lost one of the mixes during the MySpace era).

My approach to DJing has always been to carry on the tradition of digging for records as a priority. As the years have gone by, that art as a whole seems to have been pushed further and further to the side. Even though, I've dabbled in making beats and play produced joints, these mixes have always been my attempt to keep the balance out there (though one year was a Hip-Hop mix).

But as always, 100% real records. Much love to everyone who has been peepin out these mixes for the last decade! (man, that's really crazy to say).

I said earlier this may be the last one, but who knows how I'll feel next year, maybe I'll go for 20.

Big ups to my brother Buddy Vladimir Decastro for teachin the kid the ropes.. I learned a lot about DJing just by working on this mix... How to put things together in a cohesive fashion, how to flava that shit out, etc.. This was a strong foundation on my DJing today foreal... We worked on this for like 4 straight days from 9pm to like 5am... Had to go to class and work the next day, then right back to recording... Damn the good ol days lol... But yo... We been wanting to put up our old mixes for free downloads since the internet isn't what it is now a few years ago (crazy)! So here ya go, the entire mix free to download!
