British Asian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dewan-Dean Soomary returns with a new project that blends the snappy pop sensibility of indie disco with the bleak humour and biting social commentary of post-punk.

Teenage Sequence tells acid-tongued and relatable stories about the humiliations and alienations of modern life: the casual racism of the music industry or your crush, the endless series of hangovers that keep you stuck as an eternal kid, the despair of living in a world on the verge of destruction, the yearning when you fall in love despite all of this. Lush synthesisers, fuzzy guitars, and relentless 909 beats build a soundscape that is as sleek, pulsing, merciless, and ultimately as irresistible as London itself— demanding that the listener dance, even as it reminds them that the dance-floor is burning. 

Teenage Sequence’s debut single “All This Art” turns a scathing eye on the small indignities and hypocrisies of a music industry that doesn’t want face its own racial shortcomings— all the while poking fun at its self and sarcastically  sending up the warped relationship we all have to ourselves and our art. 
Clocking in at 6.29 of spoken word over a dance beat as bright, tart, and cutting as the song’s lyrics, “All This Art” disregards the rules of modern pop and alternative songwriting in favour of brutal honesty and bittersweet fun.

One of the surprising discoveries coming out of Gaia data release 3, is that Gaia is able to detect starquakes – tiny motions on the surface of a star – that change the shapes of stars, something the observatory was not originally built for.

Previously, Gaia already found radial oscillations that cause stars to swell and shrink periodically, while keeping their spherical shape. But Gaia has now also spotted other vibrations that are more like large-scale tsunamis. These nonradial oscillations change the global shape of a star and are therefore harder to detect.

Nonradial oscillation modes cause a star's surface to move while it rotates, as shown in the animation. Dark patches are slightly cooler than bright patches, giving rise to periodic changes in the brightness of the star. The frequency of the rotating and pulsating stars was increased 8.6 times to shift them into the audible range of humans.

CRTTR x Eisenbricht presents: Time Crawls As I Wait 

This album was created in collaboration with CRTTR as part of a transdisciplinary exploration of waiting as part of the publication series Eisenbricht berichtet. Time Crawls As I Wait embodies everyday points of contact with the concept of waiting musically and makes them emotionally explorable. The six pieces have taken up the most diverse approaches to synthetic sound architecture and together represent a unity full of variety. 

Eisenbricht is a transdisciplinary platform that deals with social issues in a network of young artists and scientists. The formats that emerge take place in the exhibition/performance space, online, as a publication or as a podium.

Sea Invocation is a traditional Manx (Isle of Mann) folk song  collected by Mona Douglas from Mrs Shimmin of Foxdale, arrangement by Fenella Bazin. Mona Douglas was told by Mrs Shimmin that the women of Peel would sing this as their men sailed out to the fishing. 

A uniquely beautiful prayer to the God of the Sea, Manannan*. This song features a refrain of meaningless syllables, which has often been used in lullabies. They were originally thought of as protective spells. Songs of this kind penetrate deeply into the racial subconsciousness, reflecting the ancient association of music and magic. Perhaps that is part of the function of the meaningless refrain; to communicate with the other world you must use a different and secret language. 
* Manannán has strong ties to the Isle of Man, where he is referenced in a traditional ballad as having been the nation's first ruler. At Midsummer, the Manx people offer bundles of reeds, meadow grasses and yellow flowers to Manannán in a ritual "paying of the rent", accompanied with prayers for his aid and protection in fishing. 
He is also believed to have been a magician who could make an illusory fleet from sedge or pea shells to discourage would-be invaders. 

I (Marianne) went to Peel (Isle of Man) myself, because of loving so many Manx Songs. The Manx musician Colin Jerry from Peel, whom I visited, helped me with the pronunciation and translation of various Manx Songs.
