This is a collaboration between Sierra Leone's Bajah (of the Dry Eye Crew) and Captain Planet, executive produced by Brooklyn Shanti. Turntables on the Hudson celebrates 20 years of Worldwide parties city to city, river to river with a special compilation pulling from Nickodemus' favorite songs over the past 2 decades. The compilation touches on some of the party anthems that kept the dancefoor moving from the start of the night till the last songs when the lights came on. The songs range from classic Fat Freddy's Drop, Men from the Nile, Trueby Trio, Jazzanova, Quantic to future classics from Dimitri from Paris, Moulinexx, Captain Planet, Thornato & more. The 3XLP is pressed with 2-3 songs per side with 13 in total & the digital contains the full 20 song compilation playlist. Captain Planet has been on a roll over the last year, with the release his acclaimed debut album “Cookin’ Gumbo”, an expansive European tour, and a steady stream of head-turning remixes for heavyweights like Ana Tijoux, Katy B, AM & Shawn Lee, The Pimps of Joytime, Scrimshire and more. Now the wayfaring dj/producer returns to Bastard Jazz for a very special cassette tape project entitled “Mystery Trip Vol. 1”.
 
Approaching the project with a classic mixtape mentality and drawing inspiration from Madlib’s “Medicine Show” series, the Captain has sourced out sounds from all corners of the globe. Obscure cuts were ripped from vinyl, then sliced, diced, chopped and skewed with a hefty injection of original production, programming and homegrown field recordings from his travels around the world.  What’s resulted is a 45 minute multi-generational sonic journey, touching on sounds from Senegal, Jamaica, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Guadeloupe, and Zimbabwe, that reflect the depth of the Captain’s crates and his skills behind the boards. “Mystery Trip” is not just a DJ mix nor a collection of simple edits but rather an entirely new piece of work from C.P. - a love letter  to the funky sounds of our planet and the rare vinyl it hides in dusty junk shops, back alleyways, basements and attics.
 
Each limited-edition “Mystery Trip” Cassette tape comes with a free digital download of separated tracks/edits, along with the full digi-mix. As an added bonus, Captain Planet is hand-painting an exclusive batch of Walkmen with his own one-of-a-kind designs, which will be available as a premium pack with the tape at the Bastard Jazz store. One of my favorite festivals in the World is the Radio Meuh Circus Festival nestled in the small ski village of Clusaz in the French Alps. It was quite an honor & excitement to play an entire night start to finish to kick off the 2019 festival with my partner in Turntables on the Hudson sound system, Nappy G on percussion. Although his drum head broke in the middle of the night, he managed to make magic & keep the rhythms flowing till the end freestyle with me on the CDJ's making beats, him rocking the broken congas & a beautiful charged up crowd keeping the energy very high! We get down anywhere anytime full of passion & heart & if you can imagine this very packed crowd sweating all up on top of each other, dancing, smiling, grinding, drinking... you get the idea of a Radio Meuh, Turntables on the Hudson, Alps, Nile, Ramblas, Danube, Ipanema, Caribbean vibes!
